  1. Roncalli 35 Lebanon 7 Halftime Lockard has 196 yards receiving and Hansen has 124 yards rushing in first half.
  2. I know that Roncalli coaches hate this rule since they have to decide who will sit out each game. For the Royals game last week, they sat the "higher numbered sophomores". Tonight against Lebanon they will sit the "lower numbered sophomores". I do know that Roncalli purchases extra medals and championship rings for the entire 10-12 roster.
  3. Can someone explain the logic of limiting roster size for the playoffs? This seems to penalize some players who have worked hard all season in a time when football participation is down. For example, even though Roncalli has its smallest roster size in 20 years (92 players in 10-12), they have to leave 25 or so players at home each playoff game. Those guys would likely have seen action in the first round or two.
  4. Looks like the Roncalli OL is a little banged up. Skartvedt is out and McNeeley will not start so sub in "Pee Wee" Lewis (5'11 211) at RG and Meek (6'5 346) will start at RT.
  5. Getting ready to join the large Roncalli caravan to Russiaville on Friday night. It will be an extremely rare game on grass for the Royals. Congrats to the Panthers on another fine regular season. We hope that Coach Stewart and QB Dylan Bryant are back in action this week. Looks like it will come down to the battle in the trenches as both teams prefer to run the ball. The question will be if the Panthers can handle Roncalli's huge OL. Projected OL starters for the Royals are: LT - Lauck 6'7 290 LG - Ray 6'3 300 C - Seacrest 6'7 295 RG - Skartvedt 6'5 303 RT - McNeeley 6'4 278 Jumbo set OT - Meek 6'5 346 These are all one-way players. The DL includes Swartz at 6'1 280 and Neu at 6'4 270. Hoping for a dry game!
  6. Looking forward to going to The Pit this Friday to see Elder versus Roncalli. Elder drew over 9000 rowdies for last Friday's Elder-Moeller game. I previously lived in Cincinnati and I loved attending GCL South games. You are right about GCL South tradition. The schools are all-male and each have a "partnering" all-female school. Also remember that more students attend Catholic school in Cincinnati area than public school.
  7. Royal JV scores again, Roncalli 56 B North 13, 3:56 in 4th quarter.
  8. Cougars JV scores. Roncalli 49 B North 13 Start of 4th quarter.
  9. Back-ups score. Roncalli 49 B North 6. Third quarter 3:50.
  10. Roncalli scores on first drive of 3rd quarter and now they will have a running clock the rest of the game. Roncalli 42 B North 6
  11. Halftime - Roncalli 35 B North 6 and Roncalli has had two TDs called back due to penalties.
  12. Brebeuf had the best WRs that Roncalli has seen in a couple of years. The Brave's QB was running for his life all night and didn't pass well under pressure. The Brebeuf DL has size for 3A but they got mauled by Roncalli's huge OL, The Royals ran for 300 yards on the Braves! Roncalli did not need to pass, that is why their #1 WR had only one catch. He wasn't targeted again after the first quarter. The Royals are a run first team. I haven't seen GS but their season has been very impressive.
  13. There are over 14,000 Burmese refugees living in Perry Township, the second largest Burmese community in the USA. They were sponsored by either the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis or Baptist churches and were initially provided with an apartment near Greenwood Mall in the Southport district. Perry Meridian, Southport and Roncalli all have a large number of Burmese students, especially Southport. The Burmese have turned PM and Southport into soccer powerhouses. Some students also play boy's volleyball and a few wrestle. Football is not their sport!
  14. Yes, I am sure that they eat lots of fish during LENT. I know they eat a lot of pasta each Thursday night at the home of one of the Royals' D-lineman. BTW, the two down linemen on the defensive side of the ball are 6'4 270 and 6'1 280! Yes, and they all have D1 offers.
  15. Correct, NFL Hall of Famer Morten was a Danish foreign exchange student at Ben Davis.
  16. Roncalli's OL is the major strength of the Royals. OT - 6'5 300 OG - 6'4 346 C - 6'7 295 OG - 6'3 300 OT - 6'7 290 However, they are nursing some injuries on the OL and a couple of regulars did not play against Guerin Catholic. Roncalli has several weapons on offense but their pass defense needs to improve. Brebeuf has a very good QB, a pretty good RB and two excellent receivers. If the Royals can contain Strickland, it could be a high scoring shootout!
  17. Southport only had 32 on their varsity roster when they played their opener against Roncalli. Demographic changes and open enrollment are killing Southport football. The school has a huge number of Burmese students who do not play football. SHS also lost a large number of players to Perry Meridian and Franklin Central when the coach resigned. It must be really bad if your coach leaves his 6A alma mater for Beech Grove! CN had pretty weak JV and freshman squads, they were both were beaten badly by Roncalli.
  18. I have heard this week that several schools are no longer contact tracing. Their COVID numbers and rates are not increasing.
  19. Cathedral 49 CN 7. I saw CN against Roncalli and the Royals made CN look like a middle school team. CN has very small linemen and no team speed.
  20. Roncalli's starting offensive line is very impressive and are a key to their success. The starters are all huge, mobile and all hold blocks very well. All have D1 offers. Hopefully it will carry them to another State Championship. LT - Trevor Lauck 6'7 290 LG - Grant Ray 6'3 300 C - Sam Secrest 6'7 295 RG - Patrick Meek 6'4 346 RT - Luke Skartvedt 6'5 303 They rotate in Justin Lewis 5'11 211.
  21. Besides Roncalli, Beech Grove doesn't currently have the talent to compete with Lebanon or Western.
  22. I was shocked when Southport's coach left for Beech Grove. He is a Southport alum, but I know he has his reasons. Personally, I do not understand the move since Southport has a good base of athletes each year, they have nice facilities, and there play a good schedule. Maybe they receive no support from administration as both Perry Meridian and Southport programs struggle with consistency. Southport also has ZERO percent chance of ever winning a 6A Sectional title. Beech Grove is investing in their facility but they are a LONG way from being competitive in 4A. They also play in a conference with schools 2-3 classes below them. They had three good athletes this season and all three are graduating. Beech Grove does a fair amount of recruiting in other districts (not athletic recruiting). I live in western Perry Township and I receive several pieces of BG student recruitment mail each year. Maybe they can bring in some athletes. I guess you leave Southport, with a zero percent chance of winning a 6A Sectional, and go to Beech Grove with a 1% chance of winning a 4A Sectional.
  23. Full release: JOINT RELEASE FROM RONCALLI AND CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOLS February 18, 2021 RONCALLI AND CATHEDRAL TO RESUME FOOTBALL RIVALRY Roncalli and Cathedral High Schools announced today that the two schools will resume their football rivalry in the fall of 2023. Roncalli will host the first matchup on October 6, 2023, with Cathedral serving as the host school the following season. Existing contracts with current opponents prevent the schools from playing prior to 2023. “Cathedral is excited to renew a great Catholic rivalry with our south side rival, Roncalli,” said Cathedral Athletic Director Rick Streiff. “This is great for our kids, as well as our alums.” “It’s been a work in progress for a few years to get this rivalry back together,” said Roncalli Athletic Director David Lauck. “We play Cathedral in all the other sports, so it’s time to get back together on the gridiron.” The 52-year history of the Roncalli-Cathedral football rivalry dates back to the first meeting on September 26, 1969, when the two programs faced off at CYO Field in downtown Indianapolis. The two football programs have met 34 times, with 16 of them coming in the regular season. The last segment of the regular season series ran from 2003 through 2010. Roncalli (Class 4A) and Cathedral (5A) head into the 2021 football season as the defending state champions in their respective classes.
