  1. Howell was a little before my time, so it's hard for me to say. But Marshall has taken the Valpo program back to the heights it was at during Hoffman's tenure after it fell off a bit in the years proceeding the legendary coach's retirement. He knows that he'll always have big, physical lines and he takes advantage of that and has built the team around that. Their power spread offense and 4-man front defense are perfect for the personnel they have. I thought they were in serious trouble when they practically started the game down 10-0 but credit to their staff and kids for staying composed and keeping chopping. But really they did that all tournament. Everyone talks about Davis coming back from injury, and he was obviously a huge lift in the playoffs, but he didn't get hurt until Week 4. Clark coming in for the injured Ian Wilson against MC ended up being just as impact as Davis's return when it was all said and done. Not only for the fact that Clark ended up being a 1000 yard passer and runner, but also that Wilson ended up coming back and making huge contributions as a receiver. He caught a 4th down TD vs Merrillville, and then both the 3rd & 18 and 3rd & 12 completions on the game-winning drive in State. That's a testament to that young man - to lose your job to injury but to then come back and change positions and still make a giant impact. I've said on this forum before that while running is king, in big games you will almost assuredly be forced to make some plays in the passing game. Valpo's 2018 and 2019 teams were significantly better than this one, but what set this team apart was the fact that they made huge plays in the passing game every time they needed to throughout the tournament. Like you said, they've got a lot coming back too. But at this point I think no matter how much Valpo brings back they'll always have to be considered a threat. I mean this year they brought back almost no one, and we saw where they ended the season.
  2. The Duneland: the PREMIER 5A football conference in Indiana Jokes aside, great job by both teams, great game, shame anyone had to lose as they say. Congrats to Valpo for bringing the 5A title back to the Region.
  3. Ok. So the baseball sectional alignments in the original link are incorrect?
  4. EC 35-7. At this point I'd just like to see 4A North give 4A South a game at LOS.
  5. Sidenote - and I know this is a football forum - but I was shocked to see Andrean is now in 2A in baseball. They've won 3A the past 5 times (I believe) they've been in that class. They 10-runned the 2A state champ (Illiana Christian) last year. Talk about a bull in a china shop.
  6. Andrean WR Pat Clacks on the game "It's a rematch, so they want blood from us. But we want blood from them too." Should be a good one, just like last year.
  7. I heard about this but it was unconfirmed at the time. I mean it’s not like everyone didn’t know about this. Depending on how this all plays out I think it might be safe to say the true contending window has shut at Merrillville…
  8. I'm flattered you're spending so much time on me
  9. Sidebar - Did anyone find it weird that the IndyStar was there (at least for photos) for Carroll vs HSE, but didn't actually make an article covering and recapping the game? I don't want to read too much into that but I thought it was interesting...
  10. I'll risk Carroll making me look like a fool again and take CG 28-7
  11. I'm going to take Lutheran, but it wouldn't be surprising to see AC win at all. This game could've went either way last time and both teams seem just about as good as they were last year.
  12. Pass me what John is drinking
  13. I said at the time I had no problem with the ranking and agreed that you can’t just rotate the good big schools. But at the same time I think we need to be realistic about what would actually happen in a real game.
  14. 15 days ago Valpo still would’ve beaten Lutheran. I’m not “crapping on” Lutheran at all. I’ve consistently said since this was brought up this is mostly just a testament to how good of a program they’ve built.
  15. I just want to point out that there were people on this forum LAST WEEK saying that Lutheran could beat Valpo…
  16. My first thought was John Elway in the super bowl. What a play on 4th and goal by that kid.
  17. After a Luers kor TD, Bowen takes a handoff like 70 yards for his 5th TD. 42-23 Andrean in the 3rd.
  18. They’ve gotten a lot better since then, this is a very young team, many of whom were making their first varsity start in that game. Different quarterback as well who’s maybe given them a spark as a runner. Marshall is just a really good coach and his teams just don’t make mistakes or beat themselves. And their formula of a strong defense and running game is tailor-made for the playoffs and travels well.
  19. Thank you Carroll for putting off the talk of Indy supremacy for at least one more week. In all seriousness though, congrats to the Chargers. Great run they’ve had for their fallen teammate.
  20. Valpo wins 22-21. Wow.
  21. Andrean up 28-13 over Luers at half. Bowen with a Herculean performance so far with 200+ rushing and 3 TDs, but he’s banged up. We’ll see if he’s limited in the second half and just how much that will impact the game.
  22. Yeah I saw the ambulance on the field… and another kid just went down for HSE…
  23. What’s going on in Carroll vs HSE? Long break in the action
