Yes they are all 3 different school districts. I just think it's more likely they will send Noblesville up to the Fort Wayne schools as that happened previously. One other option I could potentially see would be this:

Sectional 1: Crown Point, Lake Central, Lafayette Jeff, Zionsville
Sectional 2: Elkhart, Penn, Portage, Warsaw
Sectional 3: Carroll, Homestead, Northrop, Noblesville
Sectional 4: Carmel, Fishers, HSE, Westfield

Yes that is definitely another option that works. I find it hard to split up Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield. But again, there will have to be cutoffs somewhere. It will be interesting for the North.

Just can't believe there will be this long of a wait until we see these announced. Not sure what the hold up is.

With 6A, it's a matter of trying to figure out what they're going to do with Jeff & the Fort Wayne-area schools. There are 9 schools in Northern Indiana, Jeff is on an island, and then six in the Hamilton County/Zionsville cluster. The south is pretty cut-and-dried.

1: Lake Central, Portage, Crown Point, Lafayette Jeff
    2: Elkhart, Penn, Warsaw, Carroll
    3. Homestead, Northrop, Westfield, Noblesville
    4: Carmel, Zionsville, HSE, Fishers

    OR
1: Lake Central, Portage, Crown Point, Elkhart
    2: Penn, Warsaw, Northrop, Carroll
    3: Homestead, Noblesville, HSE, Fishers
4: Westfield, Zionsville, Carmel, Lafayette Jeff

5: North Central, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, Cathedral
6: Pike, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Avon
7: Tech, Warren Central, Southport, Perry Meridian
8: Columbus North, Jeffersonville, Center Grove, Franklin Central

I really like your 2nd option for navigating those Hamilton county schools. This actually makes more sense in keeping HSE, Fishers, Noblesville up I-69 with Homestead and Zville, Carmel, and Westfield together with Jeff coming down 65.

With the enrollment numbers posted, and the statement from the meeting notes of "Point totals from 2020-21 and the current school year will be used to determine Tournament Success Factor movement." (meaning Cathedral will get bumped up to 6A) - here is my stab at 6A Sectional assignments. The biggest issue? There are 9 schools north of U.S. Route 24, so at least 3 schools will have to be brought "north" to make up at least 3 of the sectional groupings. My guess? Obviously Lafayette Jeff, but also Westfield and Noblesville.

Sectional 1: Crown Point, Lafayette Jeff, Lake Central, Portage
Sectional 2: Elkhart, Penn, Warsaw, Westfield
Sectional 3: Carroll, Homestead, Noblesville, Northrop
Sectional 4: Carmel, Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Zionsville

Sectional 5: Avon, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Pike
Sectional 6: Arsenal Tech, Perry Meridian, Southport, Warren Central
Sectional 7: Cathedral, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, North Central
Sectional 8: Center Grove, Columbus North, Franklin Central, Jeffersonville

Only change I would make to the south is that Sectional 6 and 7 are flip flopped. I’m still not sure on how to go about the north. Potentially you could send Zionsville up 65 to Lafayette. I am really unsure on those.

So...in 2023, will any of the MIC teams play CG and Carmel?

I figured in '22, due to contracts and the relative lack of time, the MIC would still play CG and Carmel. If they continue playing CG and Carmel, what a joke even kicking them out in the first place lol.

It sounds like there are a few who want to continue to play them and some who do not. In my opinion, MIC schools kicking them out was just asinine.

Back to the topic at hand, I’m not sure they are accurate and up to date but assuming they are, Harrell’s site has both Carmel and CG playing all 6 of the other MIC schools in 2022.

If true, this is absolutely hilarious…them wanting to have their cake and eat it too.

”If you’re too good for us, then leave…but we will still play you and not count it as a conference game so someone else can claim the conference title.”

I am assuming the contracts were through 2022 with  schedules already in place. I am not sure if they will compete for a MIC championship though

Forgive my ignorance, but why is Conference Indiana dying? I’m not really familiar with those schools.

Is that fact or just rumored?

I believe it is only a matter of time. 6 schools remain. The outliers are the Terre Hautes. Which they are stuck in an odd situation with being that far west in the state compared to the other 4 schools. Southport attempted to leave a few years back with looking at a new conference. Columbus North has has fished around as well. I believe Columbus North and the Bloomingtons are probably wanting some stability and want a place that will help their strong athletic backgrounds grow.

  7. With continued talks of conference realignment and the ramifications of Carmel and CG exiting the MIC, the Mid-State Conference is one of the best growing athletic conferences in the State. Great schools and great competition in not only football, but in every sport. Sure it is not as big as the MIC or HCC in terms of enrollment and product of play, but it is turning into one heck of a conference. There was an article from the Daily Journal that came out not too long ago about the future of the Mid-State and you have to think there are schools who would like to join. Although the conference is already at 8 schools, does not mean they are set. It would not surprise me if they look to expand and grow into an even bigger conference.

There are 4 schools that should immediately be banging on the door for an entrance in. These 4 schools are Southport, Columbus North, Bloomington North, and Bloomington South. These schools are members of the dying Conference Indiana and need to find a home quickly. This will obviously help with scheduling stability, which these 4 schools struggle each year with, but also be a great fit with competition and distance to games/events. This would place 12 schools in the Mid-State. For football, they could definitely come up with a 2 division scenario for games.

Mid-State West- Plainfield, Decatur Central, Mooresville, Martinsville, Bloomington North, Bloomington South

Mid-State East- Southport, Perry Meridian, Greenwood, Whiteland, Franklin, Columbus North

    1 Nonconference, 5 Inter division games, 2 games from other division, Championship week 9 (1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3, 4vs4, 5vs5, 6vs6).

There are some different sizes of schools in the Mid-State, but I do not think the difference in sizes is too much for a sport like football. All these schools would benefit from many factors, especially the proposed new schools from CI. I am not sure if Mid-State members are open to expansion, but I do think this would be one heck of a new conference and push to being one of the best in the state. There would be so many great matchups and rivalries with great crowds and exposure.

  8. I think the other issue of pay with private schools is the retirement. They just do not get the same as a public school.

I am sticking with my guess on that O'Shea is pursuing this job opportunity. It just makes too much sense. I have no resource on this, just a guess. I definitely can see this happening. It will be interesting to see how soon Roncalli makes a decision as I am sure they want to get a head coach in before Spring Break rolls around.

Interesting. Not saying you are wrong. Would you care to elaborate?  Thank you.

Some programs can be great programs run by great coaches, but because of certain factors they do not have a great chance of winning a state title. There have been many instances of this. You look back at the great Martinsville teams of the 80's and a couple of their mid to late 90's teams. They were unbelievable teams and one of the top programs in the state, but with them being in the largest class there was no chance of them consistently beating Ben Davis, Warren, Carmel in the playoffs. They competed the best they could and got everything out of that program and players at the team. It was still a very successful program at the time even though they did not win state championships. Instances like that continue today with some other factors built in as well. I don't think its fair to base programs and say that they are successful or not just by the number of state titles they have won.
