    Week 3 Predictions

Columbus East (0-2) at Seymour (0-2): The Olympians finally get to play some teams without much size on the offensive and defensive lines. It’ll be interesting to see if the East defense can finally get some pressure on the QB and if the o-line can finally create some holes for the running attack to get going. It’s not a question of whether or not East can win, that’s a given. It’s a question of how much they beat the Owls by and how they look doing so. East by a lot.

Jeffersonville (1-0) at BNL (0-2): Possibly by way of a week 1 COVID cancellation, the Red Devils remain the only unblemished team in the HHC. They had their way with cellar-dweller Seymour last week but now they’re playing a team in the middle of the pack in the conference. For the Stars, this looks to be their easiest opponent on paper thus far. It’s going to be interesting to see how they grow as the season goes on learning and executing a new system from a new coach. I think there’s a possibility they cause Jeff some problems, but I’ll play it safe and go with the Red Devils.

Jennings County (0-2) at New Albany (0-2): Excluding their Floyd County rival, the Bulldogs have played the toughest schedule thus far so they’re really going to enjoy tonight’s game. As with East, this is going to be a confidence-boosting game and one where they can work on some things to get better while not really worrying about the result. The Panthers have the worst offense in the conference so the New Albany defense should look pretty good tonight for once. This could get ugly quickly. New Albany by a lot.

Silver Creek (1-1) at Floyd Central (0-2): The Highlanders look to get the HHC its first non-conference win of the season. After two weeks of playing Kentucky powerhouses, they welcome the Dragons into town. This is a really hard game to predict because, at first glance, it looks as if Floyd Central doesn’t have the offensive capability to win this game. Then you remember who it was they’ve played the last two weeks and it makes sense. I keep going back and forth on this one but I’m going to go with Silver Creek in a tight one.

According to the Seymour paper, their starting QB is out for the season. They are starting a soph tonight. It did mention he was in the mix for starter in the preseason.

  2. I don’t have a dog in the fight and have no idea of the circumstances, but if one team is under quarantine and “could” play Saturday, we have to remember this is a VERY dynamic situation. I can’t really blame the opponent for securing a game. It’s a tough situation for sure with everyone involved.

I have very little faith in the HHC at the moment. I also have 0 faith in the River Schools. Jeffersonville is going to be bad. Floyd Centrals program is sliding backwards. And New Albany has been building a team for 4 years that is still average at best, and next year will be in a MASSIVE rebuild.

Southeast Indiana is AWFUL in football.

You’ve discerned all this from 1 week?

A little over a week ago, you picked FC to finish second in the conference, NA third, and Jeff fourth. Jeff didn’t even play last week. FC is sliding backwards???? You literally posted last week FC has all the pieces.

  4. A couple of points:

    1. I believe I saw a sign at our game Friday stating $6 admission.

    2. We got $85 instead of the customary $80 at this school, thank you patrons for doing your part to increase my salary.

    3. A good friend of mine took on a non-traditional role at a prominent HS in the state Director of Football Operations. In a conversation with her, I asked her what her biggest surprise has been, and I quote “the amount of money that gets spent on one program.”

  5. I believe there are FFA regulations regarding the use of drones over populated areas.

Regarding taking pot shots at a drone, you own as high up over your property as you can reasonably use. You are also responsible for any projectile you might use to knock down said drone, and what that projectile might do when it inevitably comes back to Earth.

Then of course we have laws regarding possession of firearms on school property. And at least in the great state of Indiana, if there’s HS practice there, it’s school property.

Ok, so answer me this, a few years back we were at a MS game at South Central. We had a kid that could run like the wind but was dumb as a bag on hammers. We ran him out of  the backfield and he scored two TDs in a row, one a toss sweep and the second a direct snap out of the Wildcat, wearing jersey # 90. The ref came over and told the coaching staff the player was wearing an illegal jersey number. We were told the player had to swap jerseys because 90 was a kickers number. We kind of looked at each other and made the swap. I was always curious about that call...

The official that told you this is wrong.

I don’t like saying it. I try to be respectful on here because I truly do love this conference. Overall, I think it’s a great conference and I enjoyed competing against the other schools as an athlete and as a fan. However, the football side of things is rough and I hate that nothing has changed in 15+ years. Obviously I like that East is the top dog year after year but I’d also like to be able to see the other schools find success in the state tournament. I’d like to hear the Hoosier Hills Conference spoken about positively by other folks throughout the state. I get tired of hearing how “East is never tested because they play in a trash conference”. Tired of getting the Gonzaga treatment.

Aside from a few years in the late 70’s-early 80’s when BNL and East had some tussles, has the HHC ever been relevant across the board? I will agree that from it’s inception until probably mid-late 80’s the HHC was better across the board but they’ve never been consistent winner in the tournament, aside from East of course.

  8. SCOTUS has seemingly ignored 2A cases since McDonald and Heller. I suspect that was a calculated decision by the conservatives on the court. I would be willing to bet given the changes to the court over the last four years, that’s about to change.

On the state front, contact your State Senator and urge them to put pressure on Liz Brown, chair of the senate judiciary committee and give a hearing to HB 1369, “constitutional carry bill”. This week is our last chance. I want to force a vote, it’s time all the RINO’s earn those NRA ratings they all like to run on.

I understand that folks can be a bit insular in looking at their teams...to a point, that particular pride can lead to future success and I will always encourage it. Good on you!

Still, to be clear, as regards Columbus East picking up Chatard, as a Hoosier who is a bit proud as regards Indiana HS football (and a Chatard guy), I think it behooves me to actually compare and contrast a bit.

In 2019 (per CalPreps/MaxPreps), Chatard was projected to defeat Louisville Male  34 to 21.  Chatard was also projected to defeat Louisville Manual 40 to 12.

    In 2019, 3A Chatard ended the season in Indiana as the #3 team ALL CLASSES from 1A to 6A per CalPreps.  Let’s repeat....#3 ALL CLASSES (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A).

To also clarify, Columbus East has also found itself within the Top 10 All Classes in the last decade as well...or more than one occasion.

In 2020, Chatard was projected to defeat Louisville Male 28 to 20.  Chatard was also projected to defeat Louisville Manual 28 to 10.

In 2020, Chatard ended the season in Indiana as the #6 team from 1A to 6A ALL CLASSES.

Add that Columbus East has scheduled Whiteland who ended the season as the #10 team ALL CLASSES per Sagarin.

With that, it’s great that Floyd Central is playing top flight competition and it’s a true path to getting better and I wish them well.

Still, the time of achievement would appear to be when those games begin to get competitive.  That is when the goal has been achieved.
