  1. The EC @ SC is a 7:30 start.
  2. One of the Roncalli faithful texted and said another Roncalli/EC classic.
  3. This is my 38th year, to the best of my knowledge we have never been observed.
  4. Rumors of Trinity Lutheran are popping up again. Maybe the third time is the charm? Fourth AD in four years probably isn't helping the cause.
  5. I can confirm Roncalli at Bloomington South 10/9 has been cancelled. Roncalli is looking for a game.
  6. I will usually ask the QB, we don’t announce it, but if the QB says he’s taking a knee, I tell him nothing squirrelly, go down. That being said, earlier in the year, we had a really quick whistle that lead to the QB keeping his word.
  7. A friend of mine runs a stolen vehicle unit with ISP. He says any time they have some downtime they take their bait car to Anderson.
  8. Needed one last night. Pre-planned fake punt the coach told us about pre-game. Kicker is running to his left looked to me like he panicked and does some kind of half ass kick on the run with a potential tackler committed to tackling him. We all know where this is headed. The coach completely understood, but boy the fans couldn’t believe I missed that one right in front of me.
  9. Out of curiosity how long can schools sustain limited capacity? Bottom line has to be suffering.
  10. Never really thought much about that, always enjoy going places that take care of the stripes, some really seem to take pride in it. What can I say, most officials are prima donnas, a program, a clean towel, some water, a candy bar, something to eat after the game are really appreciated. As I said some schools really take pride in this, some schools clearly view us as a necessary evil, and don’t put much effort into it. As far as stadiums, in no particular order: East Central Roncalli Enlow Field CG Linton Heritage Hills New Albany Gibson Southern Jasper, though I miss the pregame pop in from Coach Brewer in the locker room. ***Reitz Bowl*** has been on my bucket list, we were suppose to be there this year, but a software glitch screwed the pooch, we will be there next year. Brownstown can be fun for big games with the crowd on Elm Street. I like different stadiums for different reasons, some are just cool stadiums, some have a very football savvy crowd, some have a big crowd regardless of the game. Nothing more fun for me than a tournament game or a big rivalry game with full stands, temp bleachers, and stacked about 3 deep all around the track. Friday nights are fun for me regardless of where we are or what game we’re doing, but some do have a cherry on top. Working at larger venues does have a novelty, but the novelty wears off quickly for me. Game times are off, it’s not on the schools’s campus, and you’re kinda left to fend for yourself. LOS isn’t bad, but you need three goats and a Sherpa to get to the dressing room. RCA was probably my fave as far as working the game. The old Cardinal Stadium at the Fairgrounds in Louisville was a dump with a horrible surface. Our dressing room was thru the first base dugout, and as soon as you walked out the door you were literally in livestock stalls.
  11. Only HHC team we had/have all season is Seymour week 1. Seem to be touring the MSC and EIAC this season, with some CI, SIAC, and Circle City mixed in. Come tournament time who knows.
  12. I think one thing that gets lost in all this, hopefully by week 7 teams have been steadily improving. Perhaps we don't really see that watching the home team every week and whoever they may be playing. We had a pretty good team Friday night, we also had them week 2. From week 2 to week 6 they had gotten a LOT better in my opinion. They won both games, played a lot better opponent in week 2, but still you can tell, they're much crisper, block a little better, tackle a little better, everything is just sharper. Best of luck to everyone in week 7, we're in the home stretch, I never figured we'd have gotten this far.
  13. Yea* I've seen it done well, and I've seen it done miserably. I coached my daughter in Softball. I think we both would agree it went pretty well. We both shared a passion for a sport, and that was really cool. At a time when most of my contemporaries barely spoke to their daughters, I felt like we not only talked, but I felt like she still valued what I had to say, or was interested in my opinion. It doesn't come without it's downfalls, she was a pretty good player, never really got the accolades from the coach in the paper that she deserved, When games got out of hand either way, she was always the first to sit, so others could play, she was the one that got yelled at practice, many times to make a point to another kid who I knew I couldn't yell at. She knew she always had to do more than everyone else, and I think she accepted that and went above and beyond. I didn't coach her travel team, so I think that helped. I thought both of us did a really good job of separating the dad/daughter coach/player relationships. There were always nay sayers, we both heard the snarky comments, "the only reason she wins all those awards is because her dad's the coach", that sort of crap. As I said many times, the people who mattered got it, and the ones who didn't get it, didn't matter. Now with all that being said, the day she graduated, my coaching gig got a LOT easier. MS and youth, it's probably a necessary evil at most schools. Qualified coaches are not standing in line to take those jobs. Depending on the situation, the HC or someone has to lay out a clearly defined plan and have expectations for how the program will run.
  14. 1st and 10 for R at the spot the kick ended.
  15. The “around” the LOS needs to be a little more defined.
  16. And the South Central Conference followed suit in the mid 30's.
  17. Probably would have been a better add than Rushville or Connersville.
  18. IO is just disappointed the pretend grass project didn't get started a little sooner. Would loved to have had the inaugural game.
  19. Bob the year I had the MS issue, it was a POE. The dude was doing play by play while the ball was in play, including “no flag on the late hit out of bounds”.
  20. It needs to be addressed long before the late 4th QTR FG attempt. I’ve had to deal with this a few of times over the years. Usually a talk with the HC takes care of things. In a MS game one time I went so far as a trip to the press box at halftime. Followed by USC flags on the home team for every occurrence after.
  21. Funny story about radio guys, last year I ended up with a fractured foot in our first game. I sat in the press box the second half. I kept my radio so I could help if they needed for penalty enforcement. The radio guys were sitting to my right and I had my ear piece in my left ear. So any call that happened I would give them the info. I don’t think they ever realized I had an ear piece in and was listening to the crew. I wasn’t even watching the game, I was watching our mechanics. They thought I was the Amazing Carnac when ever there was a flag, I instantly knew what it was. As the game wound down they asked me if I could come with them every week. The home town radio guys are homers, it’s high school sports, it is what it is, I’m just thankful they’re out there supporting our sport.
  22. As someone who throws flags, in many situations I prefer a late flag to an early one. Best advice most young officials need is SLOW DOWN, give your brain a second to understand what your eyes saw.
  23. IO and crew were at Jasper tonight. Need to see the film, but I thought we were pretty solid. Saw on Twitter two names and I don’t know either of them.
  24. So it’s turd sandwich for you.
