The War on Vaping

Indiana has it figured out just hide a smoking age change in a spending bill. If there is a conservative left in Indy, please turn the light out. -

I would agree that thought provoking questions can be asked. Minds changed.....ehhhh I don't know about that. The largely visceral interactions that have gone on via the Internet since day one do little to change minds, quite the contrary I think it only serves to entrench people deeper in the their beliefs. They tune out what they don't want to hear. As an example, I have a bunch of liberal friends on FB and they post all this political crap which I largely ignore. One day a friend makes a post about the Charlottesvile and goes on to opine that speech like this has to be silenced, it needs to be made illegal. I couldn't help myself, I had to reply. I was immediately barraged by her legion of 50 something recovering soccer moms, and several other classmates. Of course several unfriended me, which is fine, I don't determine my worth by my collection of FB friends. So my point being, no one wants to hear what they disagree with. They only want to be in an echo chamber with like minded voices. As time marches on, I see this becoming more and more the norm. As our visceral interactions online are spilling over into actual real world interactions. I think minds change over years, from various inputs, most notable wisdom and experience that comes with age. -

Agreed. And when I was a HC I never made them mandatory. However competition for rosters spots (we did cut kids) began when open gyms started. If you weren't there you couldn't compete. And I will admit our conditioning program sucked, it was hard, and part of the deal was to weed out kids who really didn't want to play Softball. I had an assistant coach who was into the whole fitness thing, she was into it and did the program with the players. The OP leaves a lot to be desired as far as information, and there are always three sides to every story. I don't have a problem with team leaders handing a situation like this. From what we can see, this situation wasn't handled in the best manner, but again we only have one very poorly explained story. As an aside it's from FB which lends an even greater degree of credibility. We used a 10 week leadership program when I was coaching with varying degrees of success with it. I coached girls and sometimes high school girls leading high school girls is akin to pushing a rope. -

Well the pool is getting more and more shallow as news outlets are really starting to frown on ad blockers. I've also found as I've gotten older that I really need less "real news" and "substance" in my life, given the fact that I have ZERO control over any of it, and a lot more entertainment. Given the choice of Don Lemon, Sean Hannity, or Andy Griffith reruns, I'll that TAGS reruns every day and twice on Sunday. -

Then you're obviously missing most of the entertainment value of FB. -

I totally get what you're saying. And I agree there are schools out there that put money into and do maintenance on their fields. But that's not the majority of schools. If you look at a base of 750K for the initial install and figure 12 years for the life of the surface you're looking at 62.5K a year in maintenance costs. Even adding some sod now and then, mowing, chemicals, grass seed, water, etc., I don't think you're going to come up with 62.5K a year in maintenance costs. As I stated earlier, it's hard to quantify all the other events that are now possible with the artificial surface and put a price tag on them. I'm not arguing against it, I'm just saying the initial cost is hard to justify from a financial standpoint. Lastly why is it that every time it rains on Friday night, we're always on one of the worse grass/dirt fields the state has to offer? -

Green Bay has switched to SIS Grass in the last year. They also employ grow lights to extend the growing season. Little known fact, SIS Grass is the preferred surface for Soccer pitches the world over. fac -

FYI, those natural grass field in colder areas this time of year, they're spending a buttload of money on green paint. -

Kind of like the latter part of season three. When a largely legit type movie/show stays in the real world, then jumps into the paranormal, it kind of loses me. Guiltless pleasure, I love Mountain Monsters, now on Travel Channel. Yes I understand it's fake, yes I know it's predictable, but it does offer some insight into local folklore in the Appalachian region, even venturing into Ohio and Kentucky. Beside what's more entertaining than a bunch of hillbillies with guns in the woods. So as they've made the transition from Destination America to Travel Channel, the show has taken a clearly defined turn into the supernatural realm. This is where show producers lose me. There is a new "finding Bigfoot" type show on Travel Channel which does possibly hold some promise, with actual research personnel. Expedition Bigfoot. Maybe it turns into another bogus show, but the first episode tends to show them taking a scientific approach to finding Bigfoot. -
