The field at Attucks is barely suitable for practice. It looks almost abandoned. It's sad to see the facilities that IPS schools have to use compared to some of the palaces in the communities surrounding them. It would be nice for IPS to have one nice football field (Tech?) and let the other schools use it, like schools in other states do if they are in the same school district.

I will add a slight correction to my statement regarding the number of players. You must begin a game with 11 but can play with less due to injury or illness. The opponent is not required to reduce their number of players to match the other team. I know Attica has the right to do whatever they choose. I do hope that they aren't choosing to skip games because of the message that sends to your players. If I were a player, I'd want to play no matter what and I would not be happy if my school chose to forfeit instead of giving us a chance.

I believe you're not allowed to play with less than 10 players. Suggesting that a team picked when they wanted to play according to the difficulty of the schedule is really low if you don't have anything to support your position. Suggesting that Attica will not play this week is just a cheap shot. With Fountain and Warren Counties over 10% positivity, any of these teams could be shut down at any time.

I've seen Frontier, and they do have two backs who can run the football very well. I heard they were injured late in the season and the Falcons lost to West Central, who finished 2-7. If those two do not return, they have NO chance vs. LCC. If they do play, if they can control the ball with the run game, they could keep it close, but their defense was not very good at all when I saw them play. They were vulnerable to the run and the pass. I think they gave up over 200 yards rushing to one back. As for regionals and semistate, I wouldn't start counting my chickens if I were any team this year. I'd worry about playing one game at a time. There are more opponents out there than just on the football field this season.

The winless Clovers get to move on. How fortunate for them!

It's interesting that with Warren and Fountain Counties both over the 10% positive rate that the health department will let the teams play. I also think Parke is in the same percentile. I guess what's the difference if they're sharing it amongst themselves? South Putnam could be in trouble if they are exposed and then can't advance.

Frontier has a couple good backs who run hard, but they are porous on D. If they meet up with LCC, I don't see the Falcons slowing down the Knight offense. George isn't going to lead Clinton Central to the promised land as well. If Central Catholic isn't shut down by Covid, they win this going away. If they can't play, it is wide open.

Bob, we can't debate or refute anything oldunclemark says because he knows all of this for a fact. I guess in all of my travels for 1A and 2A football over 30+ years, I haven't seen the same schools that he has, or had the same experiences. I guess I'll leave this debate up to you because I don't care to debate someone as closed-minded as OUM. Cheers! How many walk-ups does Tri Central get? Or Carroll, Clinton Prairie, etc...? I guess them city slickers don't realize how far out in the boonies some of these places are.

It is not unusual for teams to be put in a bubble while at school. With all of the social distancing in place, they wouldn't come in contact with many people to begin with. I have heard of soccer and volleyball teams doing this to protect them while still in the tourney. I will admit that South Putnam's win over Heritage Christian is impressive. Until then I really wasn't impressed with their schedule. HC is a pretty decent team, so beating them only solidifies them as the heavy favorite in 45. This week the only game that seems to be competitive is Attica/North Vermillion. The Ramblers won by 3 in the first meeting. Hard to beat someone twice in the same season, but with FC beating NV last week, I'll take the Ramblers. The rest of the games will be over and possibly running clock by halftime.

You may know it all about everything else, but the only people walking to North Newton or Tri County are walking from their cars and trucks. There isn't a house within walking distance. There is NO walkup crowd at these two schools, so how many others are in the same situation? How many smaller schools have no bleachers on the visitors side? How many years ago was it that this person from the IHSAA told you this? Is this the same person who said they would NEVER mess with the basketball tourney? Again, you have your opinion and I'll have mine.

I think those same kids have been Hamilton County middle school champs every year that they've had a championship. They have a solid program from elementary through middle school. It's not unusual to see Coach Gilbert at elementary practices and games, and he was always on our middle school sidelines for every home game when I coached there.

On this point, you are incorrect, unless they are dropped off at the road and they walk to the building. Unless in your 100-year old world kids still walk uphill 6 miles in a blizzard to get to school. Just off the top of my head, North Newton or Tri County don't have a home within walking distance. I'm sure that list would grow if I put my old noggin' to work, but it ain't happening this morning. I have a real problem with those that say never or say something won't work without giving it a shot. That's just the kind of thinking that feeds the impression that Indiana is always way behind the times or too stuck in the past. I'm old, but I'm not close-minded.

The Indy Star had an article and somewhere in it was stated that Fountain County is at the red level, meaning they have had a serious rise in Covid cases. I could see all of the schools shut it down if the trend continues. If a team has 13-15 players to suit up and the possibility that any of them were exposed, I wouldn't want to play them. You get your team exposed and you miss the tourney. I wouldn't take the chance. Of course if you're JohnnyFootball you know it all. It's just teams playing selectively. Part of a scheme to scuttle the successful season by South Vermillion and throw the WRC into chaos. Everything these days is always some grand scheme. Man, there is still a pandemic going on and the second wave is getting ready to hit, if it hasn't started already. Everybody went back to 'normal' and now there's a real chance that a large number of teams won't get to play in the tourney. I hope and pray that doesn't happen.

Everyone has their own opinion, and they're all right, because it's just an opinion. I think people would travel. You don't always have to play on a Friday night. There are Saturday during the day and night options available as well. You could play 3-4 games on a Saturday. That would probably help the host school make some concession money. I know fans who won't drive 3 blocks in bad weather to sit out in the rain or cold, so using weather as an excuse doesn't really hold up. There are also many schools I've visited where kids would have to walk 10 miles on country roads to get to the field, so a lot of schools don't have walkability. Good points from both sides. I would like to see it attempted. You can't say it won't work if you don't at least give it a shot.

So, a whopping two games this week I'll take the Wolves over the Mustangs and the Patriots over the Falcons. Don't see either one being all that close. Let's hope everyone gets to participate in the sectionals. With fall breaks coming up, let's hope the cases don't spike and we get shut down.

Magic Number: 5 !!!
Ballhawk replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Hey Coach Nowlin, did you get my donation? I see where the money was sent, but want to confirm it was received. Thanks! -
Was there a reason given for the cancellation? If it isn't Covid related, that's very disappointing.
-
Was the Tri County - Covington game canceled due to Covington not being able to play? I'd like to think Attica isn't just ducking opponents they don't want to play. If that were true, what message does that send their kids? I would hope there is more integrity there than what is being accused. Please enlighten me Mr. Baker!

I would never say never. There are so many non fans who attend games once their teams are eliminated that I wouldn't worry about crowds. In the later rounds, everyone is on the bandwagon, no matter where the game is played. I think the neutral site could benefit from concession sales. That should cover any of their expenses in hosting a game or two.

Joe Morgan Died this weekend - Another huge loss

Who didn't mimic Joe's elbow cocking while they were waiting for the pitch? I know I did. -
Are seniors allowed to play JV
Ballhawk replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The question was so simple - can seniors play JV? Yes, they can. Oh how it turns because someone stirs the pot. I'll ask another simple question? Is it not up to the coach if he wants to allow this or not? Four pages of this. I need to find a better hobby! -
Thank you sir. Born in Williamsport, raised first 7 years in Attica. Dad played at Seeger and mom cheered at Attica. Dad grew up in Judyville and had a cousin play at Fountain Central. I was a coach for 30+ years and had some sons who were pretty successful on the field. No more family in the area, but still a lot of interest in the WRC. I find it interesting what people have to say on here.
