  2. "Not so fast my friend" (Lee Corso) what's the over under ? I do have to agree with the shiny new comment. Give it a few years and come back around and see what has developed.
  3. Old Chief sounds a square guy, too bad other communities don't have more Chiefs on their staffs.
  4. Gipper, you are such a kidder !
  5. I found the clic to be quite informative.... some of the message form the key notes were powerful.
  6. Random balls in a Bingo Machine... can you think of a better way for a blind draw, unless it was computer generated ? But wait, here comes the outcry of manipulation. Gotta admit the old Bingo Machine creates a sense of intrigue every year as we set with bated breath as out section is drawn.
  7. Good volunteers are are hard to come by these days.
  8. A good point, I have to wonder if there has been a study of the average career in years for all college Basketball players present day as say compared to 30 years ago.
  9. “You guys line up alphabetically by height.” – Bill Peterson.
  10. I will propose this question: How do schools improve coach retention ?
  11. You are on the lucky side of the tally sheet.... too many pushy people with their own agendas gives the whole program a black eye. Sports are very important in many different ways and if a kid can participate in a positive manner then it is a win win situation.
  12. A public service announcement... the following statements will rub some people the wrong way. Travel ball in some cases gives kids/parents the false perception that little Joey is bound for success at the next level. Some of these so called coaches would not know a fundamental if it smacked them in the face. I have observed this in AAU Basketball for instance kids that can't shoot a proper left handed lay up. They can shoot the three and have that crossover dribble down but don't understand about passing to the open man. I could go on and on but why? Too, too many promises of success at higher levels when they are playing at the lower levels. Why pump hot smoke when the truth should be told. Further, I have seen kids so tired they fall asleep in school because they are exhausted from too many activities. Coaches that operate the travel circuit and coach at the school level telling kids they will not make the school team if they do not come to every open gym and participate in his program. This is absurd there are just so many positions so why lie ? My school of thought is let a kid do whatever he wants to do because HE/SHE makes the choice not your selfish wants and needs. If a kid is a stud, their ability will come out early on. Coach 'em up and see how far they can go; however, don't give little Joey false hope he can be a starter on you Basketball team if he is built like a Noseguard with non-skill abilities. That is just wrong on so many levels. Bottom line its your choice parents, make sure you have little Joey's best interest in mind.
  13. Would be the best; however, many states have reciprocity with border states.
  14. Finish the Bachelor's with an Education emphasis, shoot for a Transition to Teaching program at one of the local universities.
  15. That statement was made by Mama Bochet... she was always talking about the devil.
  16. Travel ball is a tool of the devil... prove me wrong!
  17. There is that burn out factor!
  18. Crazy, but that stuff goes on in many locations, maybe not to that extent, however; it goes on.
  19. Good observation... lots of schools could not operate a program without outsiders, sometimes volunteers participating.
  20. I'm sorry, I should have expressed that clearer... when I say the corporation I mean the public sector job not the school corporation . Coaching took a back seat to my corporate job for many years. It was not until I retired I was able to devote more time to the job I truly love... Coaching. Believe me management positions in corporations own your soul. You don't dance to the tune of the man you get a bad evaluation, are placed on work improvement, and terminated since you are an at will employee.
  21. Thank you guru of all that is football... I'm not worthy....
  22. COVID has had a huge impact on education in both the public and private sector; however, I think the key is pay. There are just so many administrator positions to be had so people scramble when one of the positions comes open. There is a lack of desire to work the long hours of a coach with the low stipend amount or in the case of an assistant no stipend. You haver to have love of the game and be in the position for all of the right reasons, not using the job as a stepping stone to the private sector. The private sector may appear to be a better deal with better pay. It sometimes is all about the $$, once the transition is made the time investment is about the same. The problem the corporation owns your ass, you are told you have to invest at least one weekend day to the job, be prepared to travel in a moments notice, cancel vacation plans, miss celebrations with the family. Are are all corporate positions the same, no they are not. It takes a special individual to be a teacher/coach and oftentimes compensation can't be a concern. I think the decision is yours, do something you love or go to a job with more pay that you will hate within a year.
