It’s a combination of both.  I’ve said this from day one.

Cathedral is not a public school.  Completely different topic.

You have both, you are an annual contender.  (Carmel)

You have one (SES) but not the other (Center Grove), you are a contender more often than not.

You have one (enrollment) but not the other (Ben Davis, Warren) you are a contender more often than not.

You have neither, you are irrelevant (Tech).

The right coaching staff matters, no doubt but the very definition of “coaching” is much more complex at some places more so than others.

There are exceptions (as @Footballking16loves to point out) but these are pretty proven at the 6A level.

While many students at Center Grove and Carmel are wondering what dessert they are going to order, those at BD, Warren and Tech are simply wondering where their next meal is going to come from.

    Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

I know you love to argue for the sake of arguing, and I'm not going to get sucked into it...too much on my work plate.

If it were solely enrollment and $$, Carmel wins every year.....the disparity would be too much to overcome.  We know that doesn't happen...especially when Carmel is in the southern bracket of the tournament.  They also don't win the MIC title every year....not even close.

BTW, I didn't limit the success equation to just coaching....lots more variables needed for success.

Good to know that CG is only a sporadic contender....😄

He takes it personally as some sort of discredit to Moore when someone brings up SES/enrollment.

I don't think Grover is taking anything personally, just showing you that your theory is not absolute.  Does Cathedral have an enrollment advantage?  Yet year after year, they are among the very best this state can offer in football.  Moore has also proven there are several other variables in the equation for success....and he has been doing it for a long time.

If the correlation of enrollment to winning championships is that strong, shut the door and turn off the lights, because its already over.  Carmel wins in 6A.  Every year.  Let's also just give the titles out to the largest schools in each class and be done with this....

First it was socioeconomics that was the top reason when it comes to gridiron success....now its enrollment?  Pick one.

Keep in mind there are a lot of kids they just can’t recruit due to admission standards.

    Yeah...I didn't say otherwise.

I know Van Alstyne had nothing to do with academics....not at all.  Stellar student.  I think it was more to coaching transitions during his recruiting process.  I believe he committeed under Davie, then changed to Michigan following his leaving ND.

I guess Warren Central is doomed. I never thought I would see the day the Warriors would fall from the ranks of the elite

This guy doesn't think the Warriors are doomed in the least bit.  Kirshner is a great leader.

I still would like you to explain your negative comment about CG.  CG and WC has had a heck of a rivalry over the years with each team winning some very big games against the other.  Games have been clean with good hard play.  Have cheered a ton for former WC players at the collegiate level.  Hope to start cheering for one in the NFL this year.

    Just surprised with your comment....

I'm not sure at what financial threshold things turns into playing with Monopoly money for people, but I'd say once you get to that 8- 9-figure range... you have to begin losing your grasp with the plight of the common man.

No disagreement...but hasn't that the way its always been in the world?  Rockefellers, Kennedy's, Getty's, Henry the VIII, Ford, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Catherine the Great, etc.  Most of the people on your list have also done some tremendous benefit to mankind as well.

But I agree about losing grapsh with the plight on the common man...and one doesn't have to be on the most weathliest list....see it everyday with the comments from celebrities. (hollywood and sports)  The value that the US and much of Europe has placed on entertainment is mind-boggling.

I think this supports my original stance. The owner/team knew and helped it happen, and the moment he decides he wants out of Houston; this all hit the fan...and the owner made it happen. Keep in mind I never said he was innocent, and I still believe these were mostly all consensual encounters.

The utter hyprocrisy of the NFL....they know how to market, and that's all.

    Sounds pretty darn disgusting....

Not based on anything I’ve heard.

Technically was not fired though the App State loss was the nail in the coffin.

Both sides agreed it was time to “move on.”

Although I don't see where Michigan moved up with RichRod over Lloyd.  (not just wins and losses either)

Carr lost his wife last year after a tough battle with cancer.  Nice article about their life and her passing from The Detroit News.

I don't buy into the reps thing. I've been on both sides of the mercy rule. The winning team is hoping to get the game over without getting any of their guys injured and the losing team is just wanting to get out of there. Most teams sub down anyways once it starts, that's what JV & Frosh games are for.

A team getting mercy ruled multiple games who wants more Friday night reps is a team that needs to get more reps in the off season so that it doesn't happen. Never hear the argument that baseball teams getting 10 run ruled are losing at bats.

I don't care what the point total is but there are still too many games ending in 50 plus, 60 plus, 70 plus win margins to not get it going in the first half.

I respect various opinions and see both sides.

I have a very different perspective on the reps impact.  Many years ago, had a son that was a soph on a 5A state championship team.  Because they were very good and opened up leads sometimes pretty quickly, he got tons of experience getting friday night reps in the 2nd half against starting lineups and second string players.  There is no doubt that experience helped him prepare to be a 2 years starter for that program his junior and senior years.  Playing against freshman and other sophs during Saturday's JV game did not offer that caliber of experience.  Was it essential?  Perhaps not, as the majority of his development came in practice against older state championship caliber players.  But was it a plus for his development beyond playing JV ball?  Absolutely.

I guess I am old school and during my days, played on both ends of wide score margins.  I survived and wasn't harmed long term to experience some beat downs.  We all know life itself will offer some beat downs, and calling time out or simply ending it early isn't always or even typically an option.

I thought your 10 run rule in baseball was a good comment....but unless things have changed, I believe both teams still have to play 5 full innings.

Eh, Butler was better off as the "little guy" who had a chance.  Now they are a Big East bottom feeder and have no chance as their recruiting footprint will never be on par with the Big East/northeast powers.

They went from everyone's favorite Cinderella to an also ran.

    Just my opinion.

I am not sure if I buy that totally....a number of small schools in the Big East such as Creighton, Nova, Seton Hall, Xavier, etc that are more than competitive.  Butler does need to decide to invest or get out...that I do agree.  If they don't come back under Matta, then I believe you are correct.

Just de-committed from IU. Have to think the Irish are in the running here.

Could kind of see this one coming.....leaves both of his brothers at IU.  Unless they soon both move north to join him.

Question....at most schools, does a child of a parent working at a school get free schooling without taking up a scholly?  In other words, if Daeh ends up playing at ND, does he take up one of the alotted scholarships or would he get free schooling through his father as an employee?

  12. I noticed this posted on the high school side of the forum.  Any probability that Daeh moving north to live with Dad and catching ND games on Saturdays may result in him flipping to the Irish??

You’re kidding? More high end talent than Cathedral? Cathedral has had a starter in each of the last two national title games, has now 3 active NFL players with Doyle’s retirement but will soon have a 4th when Emil Ekiyor is drafted next Spring.

Genuinely asking, does Roncalli have a single alumnus playing at a P5 school on scholarship right now?

    Agreed.....

Because it’s the logic behind it.  I enjoy a good debate but I’m going to keep people honest on their reasonings.

like Lawrenceburg arguably lost more talent than anyone in 3A and they play a much less difficult schedule….and heritage hills hasn’t beat GS in 4 straight matchups….and they also play a less difficult schedule…..yet they get ranked at like 3 and 5 and HHF says GS is ranked 9th because he doesnt believe they have any talent that will generate clicks for him on Facebook and he doesn’t like our schedule from 2018 and before….

    it’s a consistency issue

Also this forum doesn’t need 20 threads of everyone’s individual rankings.  It can be debated on one or two lol

no need for us to flood the topics with the same stuff.  Nobody likes that

Arguing over someone's opinion of a high school football pre-season ranking is like a dog chasing a parked car. We get it...you don't agree with his pre-season #9 ranking in 3A.  Does it really matter???

Anyone can post what they wish on this forum about high school football, assuming it falls within the rules of GID.  If not, its up to the moderators to manage.

If you don't like a thread, avoid it....its that simple.

Back on topic.  All I’m asking is that you rank teams in a class with the same criticisms.  I don’t think GS is #1…but I certainly wouldn’t have them at 9 and below teams that are playing a much less difficult schedule

Why do  you care what an individual thinks?  Its a frickin' forum where people share OPINIONS.  Nothing more.

Arguing over this with a comment in very poor taste?  Good grief.  Go make your own rankings if his rankings upset you so much.
