Most parishes in the Evansville diocese pay a "tax" that is called HS Assessment, which helps reduce tuition for students coming from their schools. In return, most parishes expect the families to be active parishioners. The assessment amount is different for each parish and involves a calculation few actually understand.

We probably have less "jump-offs" down here, but in Newburgh, we lose some kids from the Catholic school (St. John Baptist) after 6th grade because they head to The Castle middle schools. The Evansville Catholic schools see less exodus. We get about 90% of the East side Catholic schools enrolling at Memorial. I suspect Mater Dei gets about the same, but I'm no longer on any of the boards where I would see the actual numbers. With the income qualification so high, it surprises me that more people don't take advantage of the vouchers. It has been a decent boost, but nothing like what it could be if people took full advantage of the program. We probably get more non-Catholics than MD, but I don't see actual numbers..

If she hasn't already been playing travel soccer for 4 years she probably has little chance to make our soccer team. It's why we lose some players to other schools because they don't think they can make our team so they go to North, Castle, etc. She could probably make MD's team though as they aren't quite as serious about soccer at MD. Yep, all our kids have to do is say a few prayers and show up, there's no hard work involved whatsoever. SMH...

Depending upon income qualification, she could be eligible for a school choice voucher. In any event, in determining the quality of education offered at each of the mentioned places, I might suggest that sometimes you get what you pay. I am confident our students can correctly spell the name of the school.

It did not surprise me. EC is a top 2-3 team in the state. They should be heavy favorites no matter who they play. If we can keep them from a running clock I'll be pretty happy.

A year or two ago, it would have been theoretically possible for GS to have played Princeton in Semi-State and they are within 10 miles of each other. I say theoretical because it would have taken 4 forfeits for Princeton to go that far, but it was nonetheless possible. And yes, Princeton beat us in 2015. LOL.

Yep, all you need is 11.... For the record I didn't say we were out-manned, I just pointed out the correct roster size and gave you a comparison to FJ Reitz and East Central. EC will be bigger, faster and stronger than us at every position (unless they still have the girl kicker), but we still plan to show up on Friday night.

That includes freshman. Without freshman the roster is about 55. By way of comparison, FJ Reitz has approximately 75 and East Central around 80.

GS could easily volunteer to move to 4A or 5A or even 6A. But I bet they won't.

GS has had 5 years of smooth sailing with no p/p in sight until LOS. Why you continue to beat the drum against p/p schools is simply beyond me. BTW, we had plenty of down years from 2011-2015 in 3A.
