  1. Many things in the 1970's seemed a little odd to me. From 1977-1979 for whatever reason, not every school played their last football game on the same date. In 1979 most schools played their last football game on Friday October 26. LCC and others were to play their last game of the season on Thursday Nov. 1. The playoff game was Friday Nov. 2 and Hobart had to cancel their game with LCC. Ritter played their last game of the 1979 season on Wednesday October 24. Starting in 1981 the last game of the season was played on Wednesday October 28 and the sectional game was played on Tuesday November 3. The regional game was played on Saturday November 7, 1981. They had 4 days between games.
  2. Everyone did play a 10 game schedule, but LCC only played 9 games in 1979 because Hobart made the playoffs, and the same with Scottsburg in 1977. You are right about the Teachers Institute, but that did give the teams that made the playoffs more days to get ready.
  3. On November 4, 1977 Scottsburg won by forfeit after Paoli had to cancel the game because they qualified for the Playoffs. You only got to play 9 games if your team didn't make the playoffs and the other team you were playing the last week of the season did make the playoffs. By 1981 they took care of that problem. The last game of the season was played on Wednesday.
  4. The game was cancelled just because Hobart qualified for the playoffs. I think the playoff game was played on Tuesday and I guess Hobart didn't want to play two games that close together.
  5. In 1979 the last game of the season between LCC and Hobart was cancelled after Hobart qualified for the playoffs. Don't pull your starters, just don't play the game at all.
  6. Thank You! I wonder what the school vote would be today?
  7. Did you tell the Ihsaa not to go to the all-in back in 1985? I don't remember that many people saying don't do this or being upset about it. Do you remember what the coaches and players were saying about the all-in back in 1985? Since you were officiating back then, I figure you might remember what everyone was saying?
  8. The all-in must not be that bad because high school football is more popular in Indiana than ever before. Basketball is no longer king in Indiana because they went to class basketball. Maybe Indiana should have went to the all-in starting in 1973 and none of that would have happened. Were you living in Indiana in 1985?
  9. I don't have to look in the mirror. I'm not the top dog. Why doesn't Indiana change the format? So the Ihsaa is crazy? Most people in Indiana like the all in. Why did Indiana come up with the all-in? Did the Colts have anything to do with it? No other state has tried the all-in, so they don't know if it would work or not.
  10. So you think Indiana is crazy for having the all-in? The all-in might be the best thing for Indiana. It might be a crazy thing If Indiana changes. The other states might have it wrong. Every other state thought Indiana had the best basketball format until 1997. Indiana was the king of basketball.
  11. Maybe he just doesn't want some crazy qualifying format. Maybe you should find out why they went to the all in after the Colts came to Indiana in 1984. I think most people in Indiana like the all in and don't want anything changed. But, that didn't stop the Ihsaa from going to class basketball in 1997 when most people didn't want that. I am sorry you think that Indiana has done it all wrong for the past 37 years. Yeah, I know if Indiana does what you want things will be much better and the games will mean so much more.
  12. Does anyone remember the Indiana saying, "Pumping up the basketballs". That's what every football team said when they found out they weren't going to make the playoffs. People would say "that team is going to be pumping up the basketballs next week. "Its time for them to pump up the basketballs. Maybe we should ask the Colts what we should do? The Colts came to Indiana in 1984 during the night, and we went to the all in the next year. Don't the Colts sponsor our high school teams? Most states don't have an NFL team sponsoring them. In 1985 everyone wanted to have a shot at playing in the Dome, and playing on the same field as the Colts. Every team said they were going to play real hard in the playoffs so they could make it to the Dome. I don't think the Ihsaa is ever going to change the all in format. Wait, they did go to that crazy class basketball in 1997, so I guess you never know what they might do.
  13. Everybody in Indiana knew all of this in 1985 and most people still wanted all the teams in the playoffs. In 1985 people said you now have two seasons and everybody gets to start over at 0-0. Were you out there with a sign in 1985 saying don't do this? Everything that has been said on here was said in 1985. I hope you haven't been trying to get this changed for the past 37 years. Its just like basketball, every team gets to start over at the end of the season.
  14. I think every game means something to someone. I don't think they are going to change things anytime soon. You seem very unhappy about this. I don't know what to tell you. All we can do is enjoy the rest of this season.
  15. It just sounded like you thought that they were using the cluster system in 1979-1980. Some people like things they way they are and some don't. You can do whatever you want but its not going to stop blowout games. There might not be as many blowouts but things like this will still happen. Tippecanoe Valley 1979 Sectional Championship 67 Central Noble 0 Regional Championship 63 North Judson 6
  16. In 1979 and 1980 South Bend St. Joe went 10-0 both years and did not make the cut.
  17. Lafayette Jeff Football 1993 (4-7 record) 8 Harrison (WL) 2 14 Logansport 22 12 Kokomo 46 12 Anderson 41 0 Marion 21 17 Muncie Central 21 7 Richmond 21 16 New Castle 8 Sectional 7 Kokomo 6 28 Noblesville 21 6 Huntington North 7 (Jeff went for 2 and didn't get it or they might have won the sectional after going 2-6 during the regular season. Jeff held Kokomo to 6 points after they scored 46 on Jeff in week 3.
  18. North Decatur? I don't even think they could beat North Judson. Sheridan fans thought they could beat 5a Champs (Ben Davis) in 1988. Sheridan beat Breman 59-0 in the 1a state finals game and was ready to take on Ben Davis. Most people thought Sheridan could not beat Ben Davis in 1988. Some things never change.
  19. You could have two 8-0 teams playing for the sectional championship and still have a blowout game. In 1988 Sheridan won the sectional final 53-6, and they were playing the second best team in that sectional. LCC 2011 Sectional 1st round 47-6 2nd round 56-6 Final 69-8 In 1988 Sectional 2nd round Delphi 8-1 vs Seeger 7-1 Seeger got the bye and had two weeks to get ready for Delphi. There was a big crowd at Delphi and everyone thought it was going to be a good game. Delphi won 64-12. You can do whatever you want, but its not going to stop blowout games. You never know what the score might be.
  20. So what! Here is some of what has happened in state championship games. 2017 - Ben Davis 63 Penn 14 2016 - Pioneer 60 North Vermillion 0 2011 - Carmel 54 Penn 0 2009 - LCC 52 Fountain Central 0 1997 - Jimtown 63 Clarksville 0 Not all games are going to be close games.
  21. What if this happens? 2022 State Champions 6a Brownsburg or Center Grove 5a Whiteland or Bloomington South 4a New Palestine 3a Chatard or West Lafayette 2a Evansville Mater Dei 1a Indy Lutheran Fort Wayne could be shut out again, just like last year. I think only 3 teams north of Logansport have won state in the last 4 years, Andrean in 2021 and in 2018 Pioneer and FW Dwenger
  22. It seems like many northern Indiana teams have slipped in the last 10-15 years. Lets see what happens the rest of this year. We might all be singing "Song of the South" by Alabama.
