  1. Not exactly sure why this is hard to understand. You never want to think people are being intentionally dense, but sometimes you have to wonder. Maybe the issue is how people understand the phrase "controlling enrollment". That's often used in the context of enrollment numbers, as in, "private schools control their numbers to remain in a particular class." This doesn't happen. Ever. Schools may grow faster than their projected rates (Guerin?), but any limitations on enrollment are based solely on building capacity. No school wants to have a population smaller than their building capacity, especially if it's a school that can't issue a bond referendum for expansion. If you're referring to "controlling enrollment" in the context of evaluating the quality of students for admission, that absolutely happens. But it's not based on height/weight/40-time. And it's probably pretty rare that a student is denied a seat when there's one available (see the point above).
  2. I think this is the reference. Water under the bridge:
  3. Yes, many of the private school coaches are ring chasers. As are many of the public school coaches. That seems to be the point of this particular activity.
  4. The incessant weeping and gnashing of teeth displayed by overzealous public school fans around tournament time makes it difficult for private school coaches to enjoy the GID like any normal fan. And that is a tragedy.
  5. It really isn't to anyone with a basic understanding of economics or cost accounting. Pure fantasy. Yes, we can. And have. Several times.
  6. Any help you can provide Indy Lutheran would be appreciated. They'd like to "control their enrollment" up about 50-70 students. Building holds 400, but staff/course offerings are optimized at about 320. Last enrollment figures were 245. Thanks in advance.
  7. Was Matt Millhouse in that group? Was on the Luers staff for the Jaylon Smith years, then coached at St. Francis.
  8. Which team has played more meaningful snaps in the 4th quarter this year? LuHi had the two one-score tourney games (Providence, South Putnam), plus close-ish regular season games (Speedway, Lapel). How many AC games saw the varsity playing the full 4th quarter?
  9. I'll be in the endzone of the Lutheran/Sheridan game running a camera and the sideline replay. I will admit, for the two weeks Lutheran had off this year, it sure was nice flipping between multiple games on the IHSAAtv site rather than sitting in the rain!
  10. There's always a chance, even if it's measured in basis points! Both games will be played on wet grass tonight, so there may be turnovers. I think that's the best hope for the underdogs.
  11. Yes. So far...
  12. Hold on, there! Concordia won one of those games (1978, 40-12). LCC won the 1977 game 13-6.
  13. I'm sticking to my top 4 preseason ranking from July. Might juggle the top 3 a little.
  14. This. The overwhelming majority of what people label "recruiting" is done by parents and other kids. Ultimately, I'd hate to limit a parent/player's freedom to choose. It's how markets work. It may be dumb to change schools for athletic reasons, but limiting freedom to make bad decisions is worse.
  15. Not trying to compare South Side to the IPS schools. They're all bad. I was using South Side as an example of the same dynamic in The Fort that occurs in Indy. Both cities had large population shifts away from those two school districts. IPS seems to have lost more population to the mega township schools outside 465 than FWCS has lost to Snider/Homestead/Carroll. I agree with you that there is a bigger disparity between IPS and the Indy township schools than there is between South and the rest of the SAC. And for what it's worth, Lutheran has had about as many players from IPS feeder schools as Concordia has received from South Side/Geyer.
  16. Why is South Side terrible at football? Could it be that the parents of talented kids in the surrounding neighborhoods decide to send their kids to Snider or Luers? Do these same parents convince other parents to do the same? Probably not a single Snider/Luers coach involved. Same thing applies in Indy, just 3x the scale.
  17. Point taken. Providence will make this a game. Senior-led squad, and can move the ball various ways.
  18. Just offering friendly advice to the good people from North Decatur. Forgot to add: If you do get your car towed for a broken taillight, remember to pay the impound fee in cash (small bills) to make it easier for the lot owner to split the fee with the officer who wrote the ticket.
  19. Each of the 4 regional games this weekend is a rematch from last year. When was the last time that happened, and will the results be the same? Harrell Predictions: North Judson over Park Tudor, 35-28: Was D.J. Gordon available for this game last year? Can North Judson shut him down this year? Adams Central over Carroll, 31-24: What does Carroll have to do to pull off the upset? Sheridan over North Decatur, 31-24: Only prediction I disagree with. Game is at Sheridan, so if you're traveling from Greensburg, make sure all your taillights work, your license plate is current and keep it under the speed limit once you hit the Sheridan line. Lutheran over Providence, 38-24: Providence is having a great year, but has their schedule prepared them for the Saints?
  20. What does Sheridan currently do better than North Decatur?
  21. As usual, I'll let the film speak for itself. The only think I'll add, is that I'm a big fan of Sagarin (after about week 4). However, there are always teams that don't seem to match their rating (with only 9 games, and not a lot of crossover between classes/geography, the R-squared isn't always >.70). I've thought South Putnam was better than their rating all year. I truly believe they're a top-3 team in 1A, and would be competitive in the 2A tourney. I think Aiden Beadles (#11) is the best linebacker in 1A, and might be the best defensive player overall. Kid was all over the field and played a big part in limiting big play opportunities for LuHi. Their O-line did a great job giving their QB (Wyatt Mullin, #2) time to make big plays downfield. There aren't many other lines in 1A that will be able to do that against Lutheran. Say what you will about the two-week hiatus for Lutheran. I think the 7-point margin was all about South Putnam. Are there any other 1A teams aside from AC who can replicate that effort? We'll see.
