Found this interesting. Maybe this is why so many 3 star (spelled it right this time. 😄 ) have competed on this level so well? As much as programs try to match what Cignetti has done, do you shift the recruiting focus from the high school players to the veterans in the portal? I think the game is already on that path but some of those 5 star recruits will be hard to look past.

Quite the visual....many will try to imitate what Cignetti has done, but it will be tough to do. I think other coaches might be able to vouch for this, but my experience with the couple of 5 Staer recruits is that they are HUGE pains in the ass. They get by on talent alone. There may be a few that are the real deal. I saw Kirby Smart being interviewed recently and was asked about whether he thought the SEC has lost ground as the premier conference. He said, well, you need to ask NFL teams. Where are their scouts looking? Look at NFL rosters. And my thought was that the best NFL teams are full of more players who were not 5 star level. Was it the Seattle and New England Super Bowl that had ZERO players that were 5 stars.

The Williams' story is a crazy one. It may be THE case that decides what the college game looks like for years to come; how ever long it may last.

I am a stickler for my own spelling. I laugh a lot when I see people replying (not here, just social media in general) with something like "your an idiot". While I don't often correct others, I admit that mistakes jump off the page to me. That likely comes from grading student work and seeing it so often. 😄

This is exactly it. he is the only one to figure this out. People need to remember he was the recruiting coordinator for Saban at Alabama. He has an eye on what to look for. Others may copy it. And like Bash mentioned, that Iowa State roster was middle of the pack at best. They are likely about to find out that the B1G is a different animal. Another note, just imagine how good JMU would be now with Cignetti and all those players staying.

It will be interesting to see who continues to play the NIL game as it stands now with no regulation. Cuban won't say how much he gave to IU, but it's a significant amount. Michigan State has a war chest of $400 Million. Texas Tech has the oil man who pumped major cash into the program. Oregon has Nike on board, There are several other examples as well. And if your program has not invested significantly yet, or your roster has been decimated by the transfer portal, it's too late. For programs like Iowa State and Oklahoma State, they will have to spend as much as those other programs just to field a full roster. If they want to even consider being in the playoff picture, they will have to spend twice as much to reach that level. Looking at the power 4 conferences, there are a number of programs within each that are not spending at that level. The conferences as we know them may look significantly different in just a matter of a couple of years.

I'd be willing to bet that Green Bay was that 7th team.

I get what you are saying, and agree, but like I once did, I think terms have been confusing. The Power 4 conferences are part of the group of 5. I know the thinking, the best 5 non Power 4 conferences should do something else. Maybe those conference leaders get together to come up with a level similar to the FCS......maybe FCS 1 and FCS 2? The FCS 2 could be the current FCS level that played for a championship last night.

I am going to guess all sides are ok with this. There comes a point in time where it's time to go a different direction. I don't think he will be unemployed long. Look what a change of setting did for Andy Reid.

Illinois State gets the ball first in OT, and gets a quick score. the PAT was blocked. The kicker had to make a tackle to keep MSU from putting points on the board. I am not sure how that works out in college OT? MSU gets the ball, decent gain on first down, but a procedure call and a sack back them up to 4th and 10. ISU sends the house, but the MSU QB, starting just his 11th college game as a true freshman, finds a receive open in the end zone to tie it and the PAT wins it. Huge props to Coach Spack and the Illinois State program on a great run.

This is crazy.....Minchey commits to Nebraska, shown a healthy check from Kentucky and is expected to commit there now.
-
I hope some of you have been watching the FCS Championship game. Illinois State has come back from being down 21-7 to a tie late against the 2nd ranked Montana State. Illinois State is coached by Brock Spack, former DC at Purdue under Joe Tiller. They have been a road underdog the entire post season and even knocked off the number 1 team at North Dakota State. Illinois State was driving for a game winning FG but had it blocked. Montana State was in great field position. A sack and a bad snap got them to 4th and 28, so that took them out of FG range. Going to OT now.
-
They did not, so yeah. no interceptions.
-
So, if the dates coincide with the timing of school semesters, start the season earlier and play the championship sooner.

He is probably happy to have been fired

Falcons fire their GM as well.

14 players enter the portal. 2 QBs have already committed. Anthony Rezac commits to South Dakota State Kenny Minchey commits to Nebraska https://www.wndu.com/2025/12/08/notre-dame-football-transfer-portal-2025-26-whos-whos-out/?fbclid=IwY2xjawPIBUJleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFCTW9xU1Y1bTBBNElRYXJKc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHrRbfY-fGF3yNwo2pNY8uaq3iYgeurKWZOyNJFQ9UrzWiaM11cABdAalfebP_aem_GVztQQ36algm8CDDl4lwdQ

And so it begins:

I really hope the NCAA moves the dates for the portal window. It needs to open after the championship game is played. As Cignetti and Lanning have said, it's been a distraction as they try to prepare for the game this week.
