    IU BBall

I was in Bloomington from the Fall of 1974 to the Spring of 1977, probably the best 3 seasons for IU basketball. Scott May was the best player in college basketball. Benson a dominant force in the middle. But the engine that made the whole thing run was Quinn Buckner.
  2. Such that alleged “sign-stealing” could not have been even a small factor. That’s why I referred to it as crap. But you know the meatheads are going to say that, and not just at ND.
  3. And now, everybody Michigan has played in the last few years is coming out with this kind of crap: https://www.onefootdown.com/2023/11/2/23943373/notre-dame-football-so-were-pretty-sure-michigan-cheated-against-the-irish-in-2019-conor-stalions-nd Notre Dame Football: So... we’re pretty sure Michigan cheated against the Irish in 2019 Remember going “wth?” on a rainy October night in Ann Arbor? Grau/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The ongoing scandal involving the Michigan Wolverines and the cheating operation of Conor Stalions has almost completely overtaken the college football conversation over the last couple of weeks — and for good reason. If only half of what is being alleged turns out to be true, then this is truly one of the greatest scandals in college football history. What’s frustrating for fans right now, is that we are in the middle of a season and Michigan is in fantastic shape to make the college football playoff despite evidence that has been put forth about this cheating happening this year (like Stalions being on the Central Michigan sideline in sunglasses in the Chips night game against the Michigan State Spartans). The College Football Playoff Committee is taking a pass on doing anything about Michigan’s actions, and passing the buck onto the NCAA. The Big Ten coaches, however, have no intention of being patient about any of this and expressed a desire for the conference to do something right away. So... what does any of this have to do with Notre Dame this year? Not much (that we know of) as the Irish took themselves out of playoff contention down in Louisville a few weeks ago. This scandal, however, goes back years — including the last time Notre Dame played Michigan back in 2019. Remember that 2019 game in Ann Arbor? Remember how the Irish couldn’t do a damn thing right offensively? Well... there may be a very good reason for that besides poor bye week preparation. This story is absolutely insane and only gets crazier with each passing day.
  4. I will be at Knox Friday night for this one. Did you know that the 2 head coaches have 541 wins between them? Is there another game in the state that can match that total?
  5. One of the more clear, concise and informative posts I’ve seen on the GID in some time.
  6. That’s way above my pay grade. I’d prefer to concentrate on curing the problem long term, and let others figure out the mechanics of dealing with the current crisis.
  7. As an observer, I am in contact with many different officials, from all parts of the state. The “problem” has already begun. And reversing the trend is going to prove very difficult.
  8. Yes. In normal timing, the game clock would start when the kickoff was legally touched. In Mercy Rule timing, it starts when the ball is kicked. Once it starts, Mercy Rule timing is in effect for the remainder of the game.
  9. If this thread were a horse, they’d shoot it.
  10. The team next to put the ball in play can place the ball anywhere between the hashes following a touchback, fair catch or awarded fair catch, on a try or free kick, and on 1st down in overtime. Have I missed one?
  11. I get it … but please don’t call me “Bobby.”
  12. I can’t say I’ve followed the details of this story as it has developed. But I’ve read several stories that said the investigation was kicked off by some investigative entity who provided the authorities with video and other tangible evidence. Who was this and why/how did they come by this evidence? What was their motivation for ratting out the Large Weasels?
  13. I checked, and neither Lawrenceburg nor Batesville has shared the video with the IFOA yet. That’s not uncommon. Hopefully, tomorrow.
  14. Can you tell me at what point in the game the pass play occurred? I’d like to look at the Hudl video. The video I saw was of very poor quality.
  15. Now this is a case where the judicious use of NIL could really make a difference. Safety is among the lowest paid positions in the NFL. A sweet NIL deal could induce him to stay another year.
  16. If he doesn’t get a foot down, it’s incomplete. The only exception is if the defensive player actually carries the receiver out of bounds, so that his progress was clearly stopped in the field of play.
  17. This type of play is a favorite on officiating quizzes, although the play situation usually has the receiver going airborne in the end zone, catching the ball, and then he is driven back into the field of play and goes to the ground at the 2 yd. line. That’s a TD because the furthest point of the ball at the time of the contact was in the end zone. Same thing here. What game was this?
  18. The foremost point of the ball at the time the receiver possesses it would be the spot here, since the receiver was contacted right at the time of the catch, and driven back. Here, it looks like between the 15 and 14 yd. lines.
  19. It says they were stupid for cheating when they didn’t have to.
  20. Why? He has a legitimate shot at the big prize this year, which would only enhance his bargaining power with the NFL. And the NFL people will care less if the NCAA says he broke their stupid rules.
  21. With Knox at home, they are about an 8-9 pt. favorite, according to Sagarin.
  22. That’s just good coaching. I officiated a game where a highly regarded coach decided a 6 pt. victory over a winless opponent was not good enough, and scored a TD with less than a minute remaining to go up by 13, instead of kneeling it out. Subsequent kickoff returned for a TD, followed by recovered onside kick and completed Hail Mary for the TD that won it. Turned a 6 pt. victory into a 1 pt. loss. It happens.
