  1. Roncalli leads Harrison 16-0 halfway through the first period.
  2. Did you know there is only one college football program that is in the top 10% of both all time winning percentage and NCAA Graduation Success Rate? Guess. (Hint: It’s not Michigan.) 🤣😂
  3. How hot is James Franklin’s seat, after gagging on another one last week, and then losing to lowly UCLA today?
  4. Penn answers immediately. 7-6 Penn 2:21 of the 1st.
  5. Elkhart strikes first, leads Penn 6-0 at 4:34 of the 1st.
  6. 1st period in the pressbox. Remainder roaming the sidelines.
  7. Nice question. My response is limited to high school rules. First, you address the live ball foul by R. Because K legally recovered the kick, this is not a post scrimmage kick foul. So, K’s options are to decline the penalty and keep the ball, or accept the penalty and replay the down after enforcement of the penalty. Your hypothetical did not specify the exact nature of the penalty “illegal block,” so I can’t tell whether enforcement would be 10 or 15 yds. Now you address the dead ball personal foul on K. We’re going back 15 yds. and it will be 1st & 10 for K there. Sounds like they got it right.
  8. I’ll be making the trip to Elkhart for this one.
  9. Absolutely correct on all counts. It’s all about changing demographics.
  10. I wish I knew the answer to that question. It pains me to see the Mustangs struggle like they have been.
  11. A few former Mustang players, too. 😉
  12. It’s disappointing. But, in an attempt to make something positive out of it, I think it’s likely this play will be included in the weekly Training Video distributed by the Indiana Football Officials Association. It reaches about 700 or so officials, so we’ll try to make it a teaching moment.
  13. For a guy near the end of his career, who depends on acceleration and straight line speed in his game, I think it’s very likely we’ve seen the last of him in the NFL.
  14. I agree this is a catch. But my focus is on finding out why we didn’t get it right. The streamed clip I saw did not show the back judge, and this was his call 100%. I looked at the Hudl video, which does show a wide view. The back judge is in trouble right away because of his initial position. He is head up on the football ... which is all the way on the left hash. To compound the problem, the formation is strong -- with trips, no less -- to the linesman’s side. The back judge’s initial key in this formation is the widest receiver in the trips, so he needed to line up accordingly. B should at least be in the middle of the field in this situation. Instead, he is running along the end line trying to close on the play when he has to make the critical call. On a bang bang play like that, you want to be stationary when you’re processing what you see. See, those mechanics rules do serve a purpose. 😉
  15. Not exactly the same injury. McGahee tore all 3 knee ligaments, ACL, MCL, and PCL. What we know about Hill now is that he tore “multiple ligaments,” including his ACL. But he also dislocated his kneecap (not the same as a dislocated knee). Still, Hill’s injury is arguably more severe because of the dislocation.
  16. Ozzy Trapilo vs. Maxx Crosby -40 snaps (26 pass, 14 run) -0 sacks -0 QBH -2 hurries For not playing a single regular season snap + going against one of the leagues best in Crosby, the rookie did a great job.
  17. It’s really not that difficult. If the receivers commit a foul downfield during the kick, it’s treated as if the foul had occurred after the receivers possessed the football … which occurs when a player on the receiving team catches or recovers the kick. If accepted the penalty is enforced from either the spot where the foul occurred, the spot where the play ends, or the spot where the receivers caught or recovered the kick, whichever is more favorable to the kicking team.
  18. Let’s try again. Which team committed the foul?
  19. That was just the kind of game the Bears would routinely lose in past years.
  20. He’s not lighting anything up right now. Torn Achilles tendon, out for the season. Hard luck for what is, by all accounts, a great kid.
  21. Nope, but I will sponsor your application to become an IHSAA football official. 🤣😂
  22. Thanks. But I’m sure you agree that view doesn’t shed much light on the call. However, I notice that the Hudl video has been shared to the IFOA library. I hope to get a chance to look at it later today.
  23. Anyone at the Pike -Warren Central game? I understand there was a controversial catch/no catch call in OT. Looking for some info.
