  1. That is going to be a spirited conversation if, at some point, ND has to choose between abandoning the concept of the student-athlete and foregoing all that $$ with which the University does so much good. Lots of places will have that debate. But for most, the answer is easy. Not so at Notre Dame.
  2. So, would this be an example of the playoff expansion diluting the regular season?
  3. The ND-Michigan series was a great one, and I wish they still played. But it’s a mistake to compare it to the greatest intersectional rivalry in the history of college football. The Irish and Trojans have played every year since 1924, with the exception of a few years during WW II. More than twice as many times as ND has played Michigan. In terms of the way the schools feel about one another: no comparison.

  5. That much is clear.
  6. I should have posted this in the “In Memoriam” thread … but this seemed fitting. R.I.P. George Wendt. Most famous for his role in Cheers. But fans of a certain NFL team, from a certain city … know him as Bill Swerski, #1 fan of “Da’ Bears.”
  7. Abject cowardice. No other explanation.
  8. Absolutely. They’re trying to sell the game internationally.
  9. The article quotes parents who did not like the way their kids were treated.
  10. I find this really troubling. I have known Roy Richards ever since he started at Morton. Worked many games involving his teams. He is a fine person and a terrific coach. What he did with a moribund Morton program was nothing short of miraculous. As soon as open enrollment hit Hammond, his program became a magnet for every kid in Hammond who aspired to play football. Kids ran toward a great program, not away from an abusive coach. Coach Richards is “old school” and he coaches his kids hard. Sounds like some people in Portage didn’t like that. Frankly, that tells me more about Portage than about Coach Richards. There’s a reason this once proud program has been a dumpster fire for years now. Soft.
  11. Former Bishop Luers and Notre Dame standout Jaylon Smith sign with Raiders. Here’s hoping he makes good.
  12. You’ve lost me.
  13. Talk to the guys who wrote, and interpreted, the Constitution.
  14. I thought we were just talking about MS-13 and other criminals? But if it’s 20 million, then it’s 20 million. There are no constitutional trade-offs for expediency. This issue took many years to create. It’s going to take many years to solve. It takes as long as it takes to do it the right way.
  15. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Notre Dame Dominates Academic Rankings May 7, 2025 Notre Dame is once again setting the bar high in the academic sports arena, proving that excellence isn’t just a game-day phenomenon. In the latest Academic Progress Rating (APR) statistics released by the NCAA, Notre Dame led all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools, matching its own record with a staggering 17 perfect scores. This achievement places them ahead of known academic powerhouses like Duke, with 16 perfect scores, and Michigan with 13. Let’s break it down like a winning strategy session. The Irish showcased top-tier academic performance across a wide range of sports. From the baseball diamond to the volleyball court, through the fencing piste and the lacrosse fields, a total of 17 programs scored a perfect 1,000 on the APR scale. This impeccable performance isn’t just a flash-in-the-pan achievement; it marks the tenth time in the 19-year history of the APR’s existence that Notre Dame has hit the jackpot with at least 13 teams scoring perfectly. To put Notre Dame’s consistent excellence into perspective, they’ve not only been at or near the top for raw numbers of perfect scores for 19 consecutive years, but they have also led the FBS five times in recent years, sharing the spotlight only occasionally with other elite institutions like Stanford and Boston College. The APR, designed to give a more immediate reflection of a team’s academic prowess than traditional graduation rates, measures each scholarship student’s ability to stay eligible and remain in school. It’s a little like keeping track of a player’s shooting percentage, but for academics. Every scholarship student-athlete earns a point each term for staying eligible and another for staying in school or graduating. The sport-by-sport breakdown is impressive, with baseball, both men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, fencing, golf, and a slew of others racking up perfect scores. Even the Notre Dame football team, which is no stranger to the national spotlight, turned in a solid performance with a 990 score—an impressive feat especially when you consider the demands of both the sport and the academics. This yearly ritual of counting perfect scores is more than just numbers; it’s a testament to Notre Dame’s commitment to balancing academic and athletic success. Their continued leadership in these rankings is like a dynasty run, proving that they play the long game—not just on the field but in the classroom too. When a school like Notre Dame consistently hits high marks, it’s a playbook for others to follow, adding another layer to the ever-thrilling narrative of college athletics—one that celebrates brains as much as brawn.
  16. Notre Dame and Clemson have agreed to play a 12 game home & home series, 2027-2038. With the changing landscape of college football, what are the odds all 12 of those get played?

  18. Poor drafting. The bolded language is totally superfluous.
  19. Doubt it … since this penalty was self-imposed by the University. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverines/2025/05/05/sherrone-moore-suspension-michigan-football-schedule/83453796007/
  20. Just want to make sure you understand my stance on this … because nothing you’ve said so far gives the slightest indication you do. i don’t care what happens to this particular individual … or any other undocumented aliens for that matter, as long as they are afforded their due process rights as guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. As long as they get a fair chance to air their side of the story and confront the evidence against them, then let the chips fall where they may.
  21. Yeah, let’s go back to the days of the lynch mob.
