I did not see a foul. I don’t consider myself an expert on the NCAA rules. But I didn’t see either contact by the defense, or reaction by the offense.

Which Job is better ? Crown Point or Lake Central
Bobref replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
So, one question worth asking is how supportive one might expect these schools’ administrations to be of the football program? Not sure what that situation is at LC. But at CP, their long time AD was a head football coach in the Duneland for many years. Until recently, their principal was their former head football coach of 13 yrs. They’re fully committed to supporting the program, as is the community. -
How about instead we make college football what it really was intended to be, and let the NFL do what the other major sports have had to do: create and fund their own minor league system? Right now, the colleges are just a training ground for the pros. Or, if you will, a great big combine or audition.

Regular Season Matchups 2021
Bobref replied to Indiana Fan's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Is there any reason for “closed conferences” other than convenience in scheduling? -
I will now reveal my plan to fix college football. It’s really very simple. The problem with college football is that the concept of the “student athlete” went by the wayside quite a while ago. There are places now where the football players have about as much in common with the other students as I do with Chief Justice Roberts: We’re both lawyers from Indiana, but the similarity pretty much ends there. But how can we put the “student” back in “student athlete?” It’s so simple. Make college football success include success as a student. How? Henceforth, all conference championships, post-season bowls, playoff participation, etc., will be awarded according to “College Football Rating, derived by the application of “Bobref’s Formula.” The formula is: CFR = GW x GSR. A team’s College Football Rating (CFR) is equal to the product of games won and NCAA Graduation Success Rate. For example, this season, ND has won 10 games. Their latest GSR for the football program is 97%. This gives them a College Football Rating of 9.7. By comparison, for example, Alabama’s CFR is 8.25, Clemson’s is 7.5, and Ohio State’s is a lowly 4.68, since they’ve only played 6 games. Problem solved. FTFY. No need to thank me.

Is LSU still being investigated? After all they self-imposed a bowl ban for this season. 😂😆🤣😅

If by “solid RB,” you mean CP’s career rushing leader ... I hope you’re right. -
The correct call is unsportsmanlike conduct on the Iowa State coach.

And how would you describe the Tri-Town communities that feed Lake Central ... sartorially speaking, of course? -
Don’t forget to include Trubisky.

I don’t know. LC is going to require an actual culture change. CP does not. Coach Mason has been a head coach for 21 years. At this stage of his career, I wonder if he wants to take on another “project.” -

That’s easy. CP is more ready to win now. LC is a real project. -

Marion County’s cost of living index is 83.9, while Lake County’s is 86.6. For comparison purposes, Carmel is a little over 113, while Crown Point is 98.2. -

Bret Bielema will lead Illinois to BT Championship Game in 3 Years

A couple of emojis. If you can’t see them ... I’m pretty sure that means something... but I’m not sure what. Anyway, here’s the encryption key. Just say it 3 times really fast: IloveJoeBidenandKamala, too! 😂🤣😅 -

Which Job is better ? Crown Point or Lake Central
Bobref replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
In the short run, Crown Point is clearly the more “win-ready” of the two. In the long run, Lake Central probably has the higher upside, due primarily to the increasing number of move-ins from Illinois. But it all comes down to the coach. LC also probably will not lose the number of players to Andrean that CP does, when Andrean builds their new facility ... whenever that is going to be. -
I wonder if a place like Washington & Lee, a fantastic small college in Lexington, VA, will have to change it’s name, to get out from under the fact that it’s named after 2 slaveholders. And for that matter, should we be entertaining a new face for the $1 bill?

SAC too early prediction 2021
Bobref replied to jakone's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Pretty small sample size to draw that conclusion. -
The Irish strategy of making the opponent overconfident is firmly in place.

This is the way it works. As the new kid on the block, IU probably doesn’t get as good a bowl as they should, all things being equal. On the other hand, if they get to be a perennial bowl team, you probably get a little better bowl than you “deserve,” based on rep. The Hoosiers have a way to go.

For those of you saying that ND should not aspire to the playoff because they have no chance of beating Clemson or Alabama, you obviously don’t understand football. And just as obviously, you don’t understand Notre Dame.
-
Kirk Herbstreit came out last week and described college football’s playoff system as “broken.” In the wake of Clemson’s predictable beat down of the Irish, I’ll ask the broader question: is college football broken? Most people thought, and yesterday confirmed, that Alabama and Clemson are at the top, and the gulf between them and the next level is pretty wide. This is demonstrated by won-loss record, championships, lopsided victories, recruiting rankings ... pretty much any metric you can think up. Ohio State is attempting to join that select company. They are already there in terms of won-loss record, recruiting rankings... everything but playoff success. We’ll see if they’re ready soon. Here on the GID, we seem to think seeing the same cast of characters in our high school 6A final — the Big Four of the MIC — is not a positive for the sport. Do we feel the same way about college football? If so, what’s the answer? You can always expand the playoff number, but will that do the trick? Or is the presence of 2-3 “dynasty” programs actually healthy?

The new coach of the Illini is the former Wisconsin coach, Brett Bielema. This is a very interesting hire. He's a B1G guy, originally from Illinois, played at Iowa, coached at Wisconsin. I think this is a terrific hire.

Follow the Science? How COVID Authoritarians Get It Wrong

It would certainly be fascinating to watch the various coalitions form around each issue. Makes for some strange bedfellows.
