Yes, let’s see. If they played, ND would be a 9 pt. favorite. But I take your point. For Minnesota fans, this season is the stuff of which dreams are made. For ND, not so much.
-
Actually, it was only “average” ... for the Irish. 😂🤣😅
-
Not sure how you define “average.” Could be the mean, the median, or the mode. But any way you slice it, there are 130 FBS teams and the Irish are #15. That’s not “average” in anyone’s math. And that’s if you look at only at a single season’s results. If you want to talk historically ... well, that’s not “average” either.

Notre Dame runs a clean program ... and I would hardly call them mediocre.

It's not rocket science. The training methods to do so are not a well-guarded secret. They are pretty much standard at any Power 5 university. Well within the capability of the training and sports medicine staff at IU. Now, whether the player has the dedication to adhere to the regimen prescribed is always another question.

We're not talking about adding 15 lbs. of weight. We're talking about adding 15 lbs. of muscle. They are two different things. As kids mature, and are exposed to modern principles of training, including nutrition, they can add muscle and lose body fat. The result might well be no net weight gain, but a significant increase in power and explosiveness.
-
DT, your training philosophy is stuck in the 70s. I can assure you with modern training methods, you can increase explosiveness and acceleration by adding muscle. He’s a running back. Nobody cares how fast he runs 400 meters, or even 100 meters. It’s more important how fast he runs 10 meters, and increasing power and explosiveness addresses that.

I assume that is tongue in cheek.

I hear you, and don’t disagree. But as an independent, whose only goal every year has to be to get to the final four, ND has to ask two questions: Am I satisfied with beating everyone I should, but virtually never winning as an underdog? if the answer is “no,” how do I do better than that?

Mr. Nail ... meet Mr. Head. -
This is news to me ... although resentment because of their exclusive TV deal with NBC goes back many years.

Portage’s athletic department has been a mess ever since Larry Casbon and Les Klein retired. Multiple sports have experienced a coaching carousel with little to no continuity in the programs. The problem is not confined to the football program. It goes deeper than that.

That’s why I don’t use Barstool Sports for information.

The point the article makes is valid: Did anyone else who finished in the Top 25 play 5 other teams that also finished in the Top 25? And I wouldn’t say they have gotten the “benefit of the doubt.” What they have gotten is a Bowl bid that sometimes exceeds their season accomplishments because the bowls are about making money and drawing TV viewers ... and they still are the biggest draw in college football.

I find Barstool Sports mildly entertaining, but not too informative. But this is ridiculous. “11AM Central Time on the 28th of December? What in the fuck is that? Camping World? That sounds like a game that should feature Ball State against Boston College, not the 15th ranked team in the nation with a 10-2 record. Not the team with a national fanbase and brand. If Notre Dame wins 10 games they should be featured in a prime time game on New Years in a game that has a major sponsor and an American staple crop. That is their right. And they earned it. In the final College Football Rankings that were released after Championship Weekend, Notre Dame was ranked 15th, as I said, but guess what else… FIVE Notre Dame opponents were in the top 25 Georgia, Michigan, USC, Navy, and Virginia. So much for the whole “Notre Dame doesn’t play anyone” argument. How many other schools played 5 top 25 teams? I am not going to look that up, but my initial guess is zero. And yet, Notre Dame is getting screwed by the committee. They put Virginia in the Orange Bowl coming off a 62-17 loss to Clemson and oh yeah Notre Dame beat Virginia 35-20. A game that was never in doubt. They put Memphis in the Cotton Bowl and Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. Memphis lost a game to Temple and I am pretty sure Baylor should still be on probation until forever. One of my favorite things that Notre Dame does is decline invitations. “Fuck you and your peasant bowl game, we are staying home”–Notre Dame. They did after Lou Holtz resigned in 1996, they did it when they fired Charlie Weis in 2009, and now they should do it again out of spite/principle. Notre Dame with 10 wins is above playing a 7-5 Iowa State team. Brian Kelly should spend the winter recruiting and preparing to go undefeated in 2020. Skip this shit. Notre Dame should give their slot away to charity and have Boston College or Miami play in that game instead. Good day. PS: The Notre Dame schedule in 2020 is looking…fun. Navy in Ireland, Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, and Clemson in South Bend. Buckle up.” https://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/notre-dame-should-decline-the-invitation-to-the-camping-worlddot-com-bowl Idiotic. Those extra weeks of practice are very worthwhile. So play the game, beat the living crap out of Iowa State, and get some momentum going in to next season.

NFL Players from IHSAA Schools

Glenn Scolnik from Munster was IU’s MVP and 1st team All Big 10 in 1972. Played one season for the Steelers. -
That’s the Vegas line, which is a reflection of the money being bet on the game, not the relative strength of the teams. Sagarin has the Bucks as a 5 pt. favorite on a neutral field.

An update on the litigation between the fired Cathedral teacher and the Archdiocese: The Archdiocese is defending against the lawsuit partly on the basis that the secular courts have no jurisdiction to interfere with ""ecclesiastical" matters. Interesting. https://www.theindianalawyer.com/articles/archdiocese-claiming-church-autonomy-in-defense-of-teacher-firing?utm_source=il-daily&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=2019-12-05

The one that caught my eye was eliminating the free blocking zone when the offense is in the shotgun. I don’t favor this, since it would mean no blocking below the waist from the shotgun. The current rule interpretation - which allows low blocks under certain conditions - requires the contact immediately at the snap. I feel that’s a reasonable compromise that serves the interests of risk minimization, while still giving smaller offensive lineman the ability to compete against larger defensive linemen. And I have not observed much in the way of controversy with the way the current rule is implemented.
