  1. The mighty, mighty Eagles roll on. 7-7 at halftime, but 3 straight TD drives to open the 2nd half, and that’s a wrap, 28-7. Hail to the Green and Gold! Hail, our Alma Mater! Praise her with voices bold With hearts that never falter. Hail, to dear Saint Edward High Keep her banners waving, Loyal sons in unity, Everlasting praise we sing.
  2. Thanks. The play occurred with 4:41 remaining in the first half (1:02:15 of the video). You are correct. The receivers never had possession, so it was still a kick when recovered by the kickers. It’s the kickers’ ball at the spot of the recovery, but they cannot advance it. This was, unfortunately, an inexcusable officiating error. Glad it didn’t affect the outcome.
  3. Details? At what point in the game did this occur? I may have access to the video. Always looking for video clips to use for training purposes.
  4. Very difficult call as to whether the runner was down or not. But that’s a bang bang judgment call, so I have no issue with the crew there. Where I do have an issue, however, is with the aftermath. Coach Yeoman is all the way out almost to the hash discussing it with the R. Discussion is fine, but it cannot take place out on the field. Need the wing on that side to keep the coach off the field and have the R come over and talk to him on the sideline, if necessary. Coaches may come out on the field during a charged timeout, or for an injury. Not otherwise.
  5. 100%. You can see the back judge coming in at the end of the play, killing the clock, and going to the spot where the runner went down, not to where the ball was recovered.
  6. This chart explains the enforcement spot under the newly-amended NFHS Rule 10.
  7. I originally thought Week One was a quiet week, officiating-wise. Turns out, it was only quiet on the GID. I heard quite a few interesting stories from Week One games. But the GID patrons, by and large, didn’t have any issues — at least, not that they aired publicly. However, it’s a new week. So, post your officiating issues here. If you have a gripe, that’s fine. Just present it in an intelligent and respectful way. That’s much more conducive to a rational discussion than one that includes words like “garbage,” or “cheated.”
  8. Why was it necessary to make this decision in June or July? Who has been disadvantaged by the timing of the change? What would be different if they announced this decision the day before the ping pong balls dropped?
  9. @temptation and I will be attending. 😂🤣😅😆 Rudy’ returns to Notre Dame Stadium for free Flick on the Field August 19, 2022 Notre Dame News Catch a free Flick on the Field on Friday, Aug. 26, when the movie “Rudy” is shown at Notre Dame Stadium. The 1993 film, starring Sean Astin, tells the story of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, who follows his dream to play football at the University of Notre Dame despite significant obstacles. Admission to Flick on the Field is free and open to the public. Parking is also free. Please park south of the stadium. Faculty, staff and visitors should enter the stadium through Gate D, on the southwest side of the stadium, starting at 8:30 p.m. The two-hour movie begins at 9 p.m. The movie will be captioned.
  10. Which, of course, I never said or intimated. At least in this post. 😉 My point was that this specific game was unique in that it’s played for different reasons than most games — including games in which the Irish play — these days.
  11. This is the post I made last year, explaining the uniqueness of the Notre Dame - Navy rivalry. This Saturday, Notre Dame and Navy open the 2023 season by playing in Dublin, Ireland. That, in itself, is pretty cool. But I wouldn’t want the real significance of this game to be overlooked amidst the amazing setting, the special uniforms, and all the other neat stuff that will surround this Saturday’s game. At a time when college football is consumed by debate over NIL, the transfer portal, and schools playing musical chairs with conferences, this game is a throwback. It’s all about honor, loyalty and commitment. So, when you hear somebody remark that there’s no reason Notre Dame should be taking up a spot on their schedule every year with Navy, you’ll know what to say.
  12. I wish all the talking heads would stop talking about how the running back position is “undervalued,” when what they really mean is that is “low” valued. The entire reason for this is simply basic economics. Teams can get a running back on a rookie deal at a low price, use him for 4 years, and then replace his production with another guy on his rookie deal. The response points to a guy like Taylor, who contributes far above what the average young running back does. Taylor’s base salary now is $4.3 million. He’s reportedly looking for a deal in the $11 to $12 million per year range. The average salary for a running back in the NFL is about $1.8 million. How many players do you think the Colts could get for the money Taylor wants? Sure they’re not going to get another Taylor — there aren’t many of those around. But think of it as buying a car. You have to choose between a $100K Mercedes or a $50K Ford. You’d rather have the Mercedes. It has a bunch of things the Ford doesn’t. But then you think about what you could do with that extra $50K if you went with the Ford. It will still get you where you need to go, albeit at a more basic level. And if it winds up in the shop for some reason, you’ve still got the $50K you didn’t spend on it to arrange alternate transportation.
  13. Saw this one in a game video I was reviewing: 2nd and 10 at the B 40. Team A runs a sweep all the way down to the B 15. However, there’s a flag at the B 35 where A6 was called for holding. Crew enforced the 10 yd. penalty from the previous spot, making it 2nd & 20 from midfield. Should have been enforced from the spot of the foul, making it 2nd and 15 from the A 45. Obviously, the crew was confused by the new rule that provides for previous spot enforcement in certain circumstances that would previously have been enforced as spot fouls. SMH
  14. Are you sure it wasn’t “Johnny Cash Night” at the game?
  15. That’s just a tad bigger than the o-line I played behind there. 😉🤣😂😆
  16. Twins committed to Ohio State. Other tackle is going to Michigan.
  17. Ssshhhhh….. my wife will hear you. 😉
  18. This explains the “self-imposed” penalty. The hope is that if (when) the infractions committee hears the case, rejects Harbaugh’s “defense,” and imposes a 4 game suspension, he’ll get credit for “time served,” and still be ready for Texas in Week 2. An interesting way to hedge your bets.
  19. There was no one scheduled to observe that game, so JR is probably correct, although there are some observers who do get out of the pressbox. 😉 Did this mystery person stay on the same sideline, or spend time on both?
