We’re just going to have to agree to disagree. Let me be clear. I’m not saying it either was or wasn’t a fumble. I’m saying the Hudl video is inconclusive. If this were NFL replay, they would say the call on the field “stands,” i.e., on the basis of the video, the call on the field can be neither reversed nor confirmed.

I’ve seen both this clip and the sideline Hudl view. Neither is helpful. You can’t see most of the runner’s body on the end zone view, and the sideline view is from the opposite side of the field. The runner’s body is between the camera and the football. The one thing I did notice was that the linesman is coming in about to make a very emphatic “down” signal, and he had a better view than either of the video angles. I don’t think there’s much of a controversy here.

I haven’t seen Chatard this year, but I saw West Lafayette last night. Someone’s going to have to score some points to beat them. They are balanced. They go no huddle, hurry up. They are fast and their QB is very accurate with both the short pass and the deep ball. They have as sophisticated a passing attack as I have seen at the high school level, with their route combinations and play action. Multiple formations, motion and shifting. They are going to be a handful.

I think the phrase that fits is “statistically insignificant.”

Actually, there is no uniform NF rule. It merely states: “By state association adoption, a point differential may be established whereby if one team has gained the established point differential, the game shall be terminated. A state association may also establish guidelines to use a running game clock when the point differential is reached.” So, each state fashions their own “Mercy Rule.”

My daughter is a Depauw alum. Been to this game several times. Love everything about this game, including the rich history of Bell heists. From a Facebook post this morning: Last night at the Fall Sports Banquet at Griffith, head football coach Rob Robinson announced his resignation. Robinson spent 3 years as head man at GHS, going 5-3, 4-6 and 5-6 in the 2022 season. Robinson was previously head coach at Hammond and Hammond Gavit high schools.

No disrespect to this gentleman, or to chain crew members everywhere. But when I was working, when we met with the chain crew pregame and heard, “yeah, we’ve been doing this a long time,” I cringed. Often, those guys were the hardest to work with, since they had their own way of doing things.

Haven’t got to the Regionals yet, and Terry Chestovich is out after 3 seasons at Portage. Who else has already made a change.

Never discourage discussion. And that’s a flag you can throw “late” … or wave off, based on the information you get.
