  1. There is no case. It's almost embarrassing to see them ranked that high. And it really makes you question the mental stability of those on the committee. They are a two loss team in arguably the worst Power Five football conference. They were waxed by a team that has a better record and is ranked 13 spots behind them. They have close victories over Texas and Oklahoma. Sure the Oklahoma win would have been impressive four years ago. Texas? Great if we go back to the 90's. But this is the year 2020 and the Big 12 stinks.

It reminds me of last year when they beat Texas and lost to Oklahoma and Baylor by a combined three points. Iowa State is this, Iowa State is that. Then they actually played a good team that resided on the eastern half of the country and got waxed 33-9. The exact thing would happen this year. Notre Dame and Ohio State would beat them by two or three touchdowns. We're probably talking four or five touchdowns against Clemson or Alabama.

Iowa State ranked ahead of Indiana? Really?......................................Florida and Georga? C'mon man! LA-Lafayette? Are we being serious right now?

Do you honestly think ND is better than Ohio State?

I don't even think it's a debate. Defense wins championships and Ohio State's leaves a lot to be desired. Notre Dame beats Ohio State this year 8 times out of 10.

Can someone please fill me in as to why Ohio State continues to be put on a pedestal along with Clemson and Alabama? Clemson (even with their loss this year to the Irish) and Alabama are in a league of their own. I get sick to my stomach every time someone mentions them in the same sentence as the other two. In 2014 they looked mediocre before bringing in their 3rd string quarterback. That's when the Buckeyes hit their stride on their way to impressive victories over Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon. But what have they done between 2015 & 2020 other than solidify their spot as the 3rd best program in the country? Absolutely nothing to deserve being mentioned along the same lines as Bama and Clemson. And they better take notice, because the Irish are closing the gap fast for that 3 spot.

On another note, the Big Ten is making fools out of themselves. First it was canceling the season only to concede later on by allowing their football programs to play. Now it's changing the rules so that the leagues best team (or one of the top two if you want to consider IU's near victory over them in Columbus) can play in the league championship. It's starting to look comical on my end, not sure how everyone else feels.

Dont take to sarcasm well I see?  Have you read this thread?  The entire point of the first post was why small private schools can get big move transfers while small publics can not.

Lol, I see it now, thanks.

Much respect for 1A football. South Adams, Adams Central, and Pioneer have built amazing programs.

I heard the CC rb was a Warren Central transfer.  SA also gets 6A trasfers all the time from Snider so it is very similar 🙂

Snider players are flocking to South Adams? You must be referring to an isolated incident. I'd have to question your "all the time" claim. South Adams is an hour drive from Snider in a tiny town of 4000 that is heavily populated by the Amish. Not real appealing to a Snider kid. The expectation at Snider is that the kids (64 D1 players over the years) will rumble with Carmel or Penn deep in the playoffs. Leaving that to pursue 1A football to knock heads with Adams Central and Churubusco just doesn't seem to add up.

    5A Cathedral for sure.

How many repeat champs will we have next year? I think 6A and 5A are almost a sure bet. 4A very likely. Interested to see what everyone's thoughts are.

My presumption with these comments is that Cathedral returns many key players? Or are we banking on "Cathedral being Cathedral" and just reloading?

So The Fort is on the up swing?

Saints ,Cadets, Knights all at the Big House next year?

    interesting.

Is the Fort on an up swing? Doubtful. I've got 4 up, 5 down, and one the same.

But 2-3 teams in the finals isn't far fetched. I have Concordia "down" with the loss of a good senior class. However, Tim Mannigel returns and he has the Cadets on solid footing every year it seems. Plus, Chatard moves up. Concordia in the championship isn't far fetched.

Snider and Dwenger, in that order, have as good of a shot as anyone to represent 5A North. Snider is on an uptick and should be back to form for the next three years.

Luers? I really don't see anyone stopping them next year. No one up north anyway.

This whole notion that a rural county school is somehow benefitting significantly from open enrollment is a true revelation to me.  Do we really think this is occuring?  Are small rural county schools like South Adams becoming football magnets for any kid with a little pigskin talent in a 50 mile radius of the high school?

Thanks DT, that was the second good laugh I've had today.

Isn't it easier to win in 5A than 6A?   Wouldn't more bigger 5A teams in the north increase the chance of a state title?  If they don't have a shot in 5A, why would you think they have a shot in 6A?

Re-read my post. The second sentence was referring to 6A, not 5A.

Here's a question that came to mind reading this thread... IF Merrillville ends up falling down to 5A due to enrollment, would their tournament success the last 2 years (2 Regional Championships and thus 4 accumulated points) keep them in 6A?

I am almost 100% that is what happened with Fort Wayne Snider going into the last realignment. They were going to get bumped back to 5A because they had only won 2 sectionals in 6A and thus 2 points, then the IHSAA changed the rule to having 2 points be enough to keep you up so they did. Granted, that was more of a success factor thing than enrollment thing, but I feel like since the Pirates have clearly proven they can at least win Regional Championships within 6A... they should stay up in 6A. It makes no sense to me that a back-to-back Regional Champion would be sent down a class due to enrollment.

    @Coach Nowlin any insight?

Not sure what the official ruling is, but I do know that Merrillville and Snider dropping to 5A weakens 6A North considerably. The odds of the north winning state drops from 15:1 to 30:1.

I think I'd swap your 40 percent "coaching" and 20 percent "SES."

Arsenal Tech or Perry Merdian could bring in Nick Saban and they are not competing with Carmel or Center Grove anytime soon.  Maybe if they gave him a few years, I'd change my mind.

As great as Eric Moore is, drop him in at Cloverdale and see how long it takes.

Vice versa, gimme the keys at Carmel and I could at least keep the train on the tracks...(I had an over 90 percent winning percentage on Super Tecmo Bowl in the 90s...)

Good post, especially the last part..............made me laugh. But I'll still take good coaching over SES.

The fact that he argues against a one-size fits all enrollment system but then calls for a one-size fits all multiplier he's arguing for and against the same thing.

I understand why some public school people like the multiplier angle....it feels good to stick it to the private schools, but it's too simple and doesn't accomplish anything close to equity which is the whole point of class system, to put "like schools" together.  The reality is a simple multiplier is a elementary caliber solution.

However, the IFCA success factor, while probably not a "calculus level" solution it's at least an Algebra II level solution.

I don't think it has anything to do with "sticking it to them." Covenant Christian has open borders, but South Adams is confined to the kids in their small little town. Is that a level playing field?

Center Grove + Westfield is smaller than Carmel

Center Grove + Westfield + Eric Moore = state title every year (unless we are allowing other schools around the state combine). Enrollment is 40% of it. Coaching is 40% and socioeconomic factors are the other 20%. No one is saying that enrollment alone determines who the state champion is, but it plays a HUGE factor. I get it, it's fun to think your school somehow magically breeds better football players than anyone else, but the reality is that there are advantages afforded to some football programs that aren't available to others.

Maybe this is just an ignorant statement on my part being a simple country-bumpkin from a relatively small (enrollment 500ish)- but good lord. Most of these schools have 2,000+ students to choose from, figure it out !

There is a difference between 2000 & 2700. Want to know what it is? Merrillville + Calumet = Center Grove. Would a combination of those two schools had a better shot at winning 6A this year?

CG will be better next year

They will have a first team All State QB running the show.  Moore will continue to open up the passing game utilizing Jackson's big arm and a stable of fleet receivers.  Trojans will break in a few new running backs to replace Steele

On defense, the states all time highest recruited athlete Caden Curry returns to wreak havoc as a senior    Plenty of returning juniors and lots of underclassmen ready to step up.

The falloff will come in 2022

It looks like he might be a close second to Jaylon Smith. Both highly recruited. Kudos to him. He would be a good fit at Notre Dame or Indiana :)...........stay loyal to the state you were raised in. It's a tough decision for a kid, I get it.

Not a shocker. I think I heard one time that Indiana has the largest following of a football forum in the country? Everyone reads this forum.........Media, coaches, players, etc. They just don't post.
