Good post DT. I agree with you on Elkhart, lots of upside there. They have to be the hands on favorite out of the north to compete with the Indy big dogs.
Don't expect much out of Northeast Indiana. Homestead seems to have their ceiling every year, which basically equates to a very good 5a team. Carroll loses some weapons and has yet to prove anything. They need to find out what Center Grove is doing. The Chargers have the community, the resources, the enrollment, and now an 8 millions dollar football stadium. When is this program going to play up to it's potential? Snider moves down to 5a even though they are on an uptick...........bad for 6a north.

If you wanted to argue Mooresville or Mt Vernon were the second best team in 4A, I would listen.
Trying to argue Dwenger is better because they should have beaten Zionsville? That’s just asinine.
Debating whether Zionsville or Dwenger is the second best team in 5a is asinine? I think it's a pretty good debate actually. Explain to me why it's asinine. Wait.............go watch the game first. I'll look for your response in a few hours.

The only thing I know you are right about is the fact that the semi-state game should have been played in Fort Wayne.
I never said that.

Man, you are bitter. Head over to Dwenger and hand out some red rings. I think it’ll make you feel better.
Zionsville earned the red rings. But you know I'm right.

Did Dwenger beat Zionsville or not?
Yes, but Dwenger wins that game 8 times out of 10. A simple congratulations to Zionsville on their state runner up finish is in order. But let's not say stupid things like "clear as day" when referring to them as the second best team.
1 minute ago, vicvinegar said:Isn't that how we usually decide who's the better team?
Center Grove is better than Cathedral............clear as day. The CG/Cathedral game "proved" that CG is the best team in the state. C'mon man.

Did! The better team won. Sorry!

Did you watch the Dwenger/Zionsville game? If not, your opinion is worthless.

Zionsville proved they were the 2nd best team in the state. They obviously improved tons since the beginning of the year as well. No team was able to score like that against cathedral this year.
What does that make Dwenger? Congrats to Zionsville, their name will forever go down as the state runner up and will be remembered as the second best team in 5a. But were they?

I think it is clear as day that Zionsville is the #2nd best 5A team in Indiana! Cathedral is a whole different animal...
I give up. Did you NOT watch the Dwenger/Zionsville game? Hardly "clear as day."

Should a team have to bump up a class if they never win a state championship? To me, that's a flaw in the system. South Adams should remain in 1A. If they can't win in 1A, why the heck would anyone believe they can win in 2A?

South Bend seems to be dying. What about the Louisville metro area?
I was thinking that myself.

So we have 4 distinct metro areas? Indy, Fort Wayne, Evansville and ‘da Region?
South Bend?

You are describing the South Bend schools. I don't see them anywhere near a sectional let alone a State title. I don't hear any of us complaining.
Those schools are a non-factor anyway. Not much to complain about.

If the local media sends a reporter to cover a contest on a regular basis, it counts.
WeBo, Center Grove, Danville, Zionsville and Westfield are not in Marion County but are considered Indy schools.
Then yes, South Adams is a Fort Wayne area team. I was kidding with my last statement. If those teams aren't Indianapolis, then Homestead and Carroll aren't Fort Wayne.

Who has started a "DOZEN" different topics about certain schools having an advantage...(and his tepid follower).
So let me get this straight. Your the head football coach at a school with 1500 kids and no recruiting boundaries whatsoever. Your competition, schools of similar size, are limited to the kids within the boundaries of the school district. You win four state championships in a row and you're ok with that? Or do you challenge your kids and voluntarily bump up a class?

Center grove is not in indy but it is darn close
I guess I'm giving Indianapolis too much credit. Neither is Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield, or Avon.

South Adams...... Fort Wayne area school?
Lol, depends on who you ask. Fort Wayne newspapers covers the area. It's 25 miles to the edge of Fort Wayne.
-
Has this ever happened before? Anyway, congrats to Indianapolis. They have a stronghold on high school football. In all fairness, the 2A champ resides 23 miles from the edge of Indy.............call it what you want. I call it a clean sweep.

Pretty bad tackling by SA.
Lot's of bumping going on out there.

I'm late to the party, but....
I lived in Huntington for many years and don't ever recall the people there thinking of HNHS as a Fort Wayne area school. Yeah, they would say Huntington is 30-some miles southwest of FW, but only using FW as a point of reference, not considering HNHS under the FW "umbrella".
Looked up WEBO on Google maps, and it looks about halfway between Indy and Lafayette; not sure if I'd consider them an Indy area school at first glance. Looks pretty rural to me and enough separation from Indy to be considered a "stand alone". Maybe once the suburban sprawl swallows them them up, OK, but that might be a while. Just my opinion, understand others will see it differently.
Heartbreaker for Luers, I was pulling for them. Hopefully next year.
The eastern edge of Huntington is 17 miles from the SW edge of Fort Wayne.
Webo is considered Indy Metro just as Huntington is considered Fort Wayne Metro. What do people in Huntington do on Friday and Saturday nights? They go to Fort Wayne. Definitely Fort Wayne area in my opinion. At the end of the day, Huntington is proud of their community and don't identify with a larger city. Same for Thornstown. But they are both a part of the larger Metro's..............statistically speaking.

Come on now. They had that sectional thriller over Noblesville in 2019.
Lol, like I said in an earlier post. They were bored to tears that game. Eighty percent of the high school community up here in Fort Wayne still look at records. That 0-9 Noblesville team hit Homestead like a ton of bricks.
-
Homestead actually needs to beat a team from Indy. Until they do, they'll always go into those games with "hope." It's a mindset.

The best of the rest (Merrillville/Homestead/Carroll/Warsaw/Valpo/Elkhart/Penn/Snider/)
Need two separate sentences here:
Snider, Penn, Valpo, & Merrillville = best of the rest
Homestead, Carroll, Warsaw, & Elkhart = potential to be next man up
Snider could have rumbled with anyone in Indy back in 15'. In 17' they self destructed and gave the game to Carmel. Snider will rise from the ashes over the next three years.

Well, I've seen a lot of Cathedral teams play in the past 65 years and this year's team certainly deserves consideration. The 1996 undefeated team and the 1963 team would be in the conversation with this year's team in my estimation. The 1963 team allowed only 18 points the entire season, and 12 of those were in one game.
I'll take your word for. I'm really in no position to debate that. Much respect for the Cathedral program.

I miss the 80's and 90's when playing a team from the Region was as dangerous as playing a team from Indy. Merrillville 92' would have given any team in Indy fits. Portage 94' was solid. Valpo was, is, and apparently always will be force. Before 2001, the big school title was up for grabs, even some Southern Indiana teams staking a claim. The real Indy stronghold came in 2001. The championship was monopolized by Ben Davis and Warren Central for five years. During that time, it's seems like the rest of Indy rose to their standards and left the rest of the state in the dust.
