Jeff QB Transfers to Valpo
oldtimeqb replied to Bobref's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I chuckle myself when I see students referring to ‘getting any offer’ from Butler, Valpo, or any D3 school in the state. They are non-athletic scholarship programs, but can get academic awards and need-based aid like all students at those schools. -
My Suggestion to IHSAA
oldtimeqb replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
It's called a strawman argument. You take someone's opinion and rephrase it in a way that sounds similar, but not exactly what they said. Then you completely take it apart. It's pretty common in political debate and pervasive on social media. -
My Suggestion to IHSAA
oldtimeqb replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Since you brought it up... can you imagine Eisenhower forbidding D-Day until there was a guarantee of 0 deaths? Now stepping back from the hyperbole, I agree there is not much of a plan. The biggest problem is that people can’t even agree what constitutes facts. We have 2-3 months domestically and 4-5 months worldwide of data, yet we will not form policy decisions based upon it. A 15-24 year old is more likely to die in a car crash, homicide, or from suicide than COVID-19. That is true based on statistical data. But post that and see how many angered responses you get, all using it to justify their opinion. -
My Suggestion to IHSAA
oldtimeqb replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Can we get Coach Hart and Coach Wilkerson to schedule a 7-on-7 July 5th? But here's the catch... it will take place in the pool at Spashin' Safari/Holiday World and be within ISDH guidelines. I hope I am wrong on this, but will we see a death of an asthmatic athlete who was forced to wear a cloth mask during practice? -
My Suggestion to IHSAA

Now I know why MLB has a 67-page document for return to play. -
Fort Wayne Concordia adding turf.
oldtimeqb replied to jakone's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I like the Ev Harrison and Ev North got their own fields, but lack of restrooms and concessions on the visitor sides are ridiculous, IMO. I think MD and EM both play sub-varsity games at their campus but then rent Friday nights. I don’t know if they have considered upgrading their facilities for varsity. -
PAC 2020 a new beginning

If you keep saying it, we'll eventually believe you, right? I really hope GS gets to play 15 games this year. -
Lights Inside the Track
oldtimeqb replied to qbcoach13's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Central stadium in Evansville had four PA speaker poles inside the track until about 10 years ago. They were around the 15-20 yard lines in all four corners, about the same distance off the field as those light poles in the picture. When turf was installed, they thankfully removed them. -
JULY 1st HERE WE COME
oldtimeqb replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Travel baseball practices have already begun here in Evansville. Which highlights the illogical nature of the July 1 date set by the IHSAA/InDOE Option A - Athletes can practice with their HS fall sports teams, supervised by their HS coaches at their local HS facilities Option B - No more than 2-3 athletes from each school, resulting in a mixture of 5-6 schools, form a team. Then this team from Evansville goes to Westfield to play teams from Ft Wayne, Lafayette, Jeffersonville, and Carmel. If I had to choose which would be ‘safer’ from a public health perspective, I am choosing A. It’s not just a baseball/foootball thing. I can’t wait to see those travel soccer tournament photos in June as well. -
JULY 1st HERE WE COME
oldtimeqb replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
As I expected, I have just seen my first advertisement for a girls travel softball tournament June 20-21st. July 1st (which is really July 6th after moratorium) was a CYA choice by the IHSAA in my opinion. -
Best helmet in Indiana
oldtimeqb replied to Sports_Aaron's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Maybe you should spend less on helmets and more on T-shirts. 😀😀 (I kid, I kid.) And somehow all my teenage son’s t-shirts have lost their sleeves in the last few months. So the same joke applies to our household. Lol -
JULY 1st HERE WE COME
oldtimeqb replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The smart coaches will have a social gathering of less than 250 players at an amusement park or playground on June 16. (Within current guidelines). Have all the players take turns spitting in each other’s faces, self-isolate for 2 weeks and then everyone can practice July 1st. Problem solved. -
Corona and Fall Sports

Which MIC schools are you and @TrojanDad referring to? -
Sorry. I thought my “know” in quotes implied that these were things I was told that people absolutely swore they “knew” were factual. My point was I would not tell a reporter “I know other schools are doing X” Unless I witnessed it. I would only say I know what my team is doing. I assume (I don’t know) that Coach Moore hasn’t been to every corner of the state, I do not think he should say he knows what other schools are doing.
-
I am not a fan of Coach Moore's comments. (Assuming of course, he was not misquoted or taken out of context.) A better response, would be "I do not know what other teams and coaches are doing. I can only speak to what my team is doing and that is...." I can name a list of things I have "known" over the years: - Other schools give their linemen steroids to take during advanced PE - Other schools routinely practice on Sundays - Other schools take their teams out of state in summer so they can hide violating the contact day limits - Other schools recruit players from outside of the district to come play for them - Players from other schools have been arrested/ suspended/ failed every class/ etc. and still never missed a game of football These are all things I have "known" because I heard it from someone who heard it from a reliable source. I know what my son and his team are doing. That's it. I would not say I "know" what other coaches, teams, and schools are doing based on hints or reports leaked. Just my $.02

Corona and Fall Sports

My one burning question: If we start fall sports season with no fans present, or at most only family, how will the soccer kids know the difference? 😀- 194 replies

COVID Impact on football season
oldtimeqb replied to CoachAbe's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This isn’t geared towards you Boilerfan - but this phrasing irritates me. ‘Discussions are taking place about school not starting on time. Perhaps not until after Labor Day.’ I will add I bet discussions are also including not starting until January. That’s my irritation. The media especially is reporting these discussions as that is what we THINK will happen and not what they really are - contingency plans. I’m 90% confident we will start school on time this fall. But my school is still making plans for a 2 week, 4 week, half semester and full semester delay plans. To not have a ‘discussion’ about a potential plan until August 1 would be irresponsible. I’m sure there are football coaches having discussions about a goal line wishbone package right now. The media would pick up this info and report it as ‘Team X is having discussions on being 90% run next year.’ We will be back in the fall. A failure to plan for the slimmest chance we won’t would be poor academic leadership. That’s all these ‘discussions’ are. -
Corona and Fall Sports
oldtimeqb replied to Hoosier Hawk's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Has there been a vaccine for death that I'm not aware of? Some way to prevent it? Every life is precious and every death is tragic. But last time I checked, living has a 100% mortality rate. You are absolutely right, there are populations vulnerable to this particular virus. So we should do everything we can to protect them. That needs to be the focus of our efforts and resources. Not sending police to keep kids off playground equipment. -

You Make The Call - Offense or Defense?
oldtimeqb replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
He’s a big body, so why don’t you just throw him on defense? That’s the fan version of a head coach delegating defense because it’s not important - one of your pet peeves. -

IHSAA Football Changes - Wish
oldtimeqb replied to RegionFBFan's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I was completely anti-this idea. I have changed my mind. (Quarantine does weird things to you, man.) Most ideas put forth on the subject have two major flaws, one of which you could run into as well. 1. Trying to ensure equal distance for competitors. It would be nice, but that can't be the primary goal. I'm more familiar with southern geography so I will use those examples - Heritage Hills could have played Vincennes Lincoln in the 3A South. Or it could have been Lawrenceburg instead of HH. Amongst the 4 possible teams: HH, Danville, Lawrenceburg, and VL, that is a lot of ground to cover. If your ultimate goal is to find a midway point, you could not pick it until after those regionals would have been played. Martinsville was done week 2 of sectional. Unless they knew well in advance, their athletic department might have completely switched to basketball. Pre-selected sites with the IHSAA placing four teams there would have to be how it was set up. Your idea does that. 2. The other major flaw that you could run into is with your designation of Arsenal Tech (your alternative to Warren) and Columbus North could not both be sites. Even as likely as it may be, you cannot have the chance that a team could be playing in a semi-state and hosting a semi-state the same day. If Tech and Columbus North both advanced to that point, one of the teams would host, meanwhile the other school's AD and game-day workers would have to stay back to host on their own field. I like your idea. I just think the sticking point will be the Saturday thing. That would have to be a state decision and many coaches would not go into that willingly. They are creatures of habit and like the rhythm of a Friday night game and hate Saturdays. -
“Best” Play You Ever Saw?
oldtimeqb replied to Bobref's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
https://twitter.com/FSIndiana/status/1200913903963656194?s=20 I'm fully aware of recency bias, but this play in the state finals last year was one of the most amazing runs I have ever seen in person. -
Thanks. This thread has proved my point.
