  1. Not sure what you are getting at. But according to Sagarin 30 has a worse ‘best team’ - #144 vs 107 for Sectional 25. And 5 teams above 250 in Sagarin for Sectional 30 vs only 3 for Sect 25.
  2. A lot of eastbound travel on I-64 tonight. Heritage Hills to Corydon Gibson Southern to Salem Mater Dei to Crawford County Bosse to North Harrison Mt. Vernon to Southridge Safe travels to all!
  3. Have to agree with you on that. Defacing beautiful football fields with those ugly soccer lines is a horrible practice. I can almost guarantee NK has an advantage over the Reitz Bowl in the lighting department as well. My grandma's 78 Buick has brighter lights than the NW end of the Bowl.
  4. I’m glad you put those captions. I couldn’t tell Reitz and North Knox apart otherwise. 😄
  5. You can't win state if you don't win your sectional - or even your first game. New Pal plays at 6-3 Whiteland (74.38 Sagarin rating) in Game 1, while Cathedral hosts 5-4 TH South (65.76 rating). Based on 1,000 or so (it might even be 10,000 ) computer simulations, Whiteland will beat New Pal more times than THS beats Cathedral, even if both are small possibilities. I'm also guessing more simulations show New Pal playing AT Cathedral when they meet, and therefore Cathedral also gets a homefield bump in those simulations. Those two percentage bumps get carried through all the tournament projections.
  6. I thought it was a dig at the success factor. Aren’t NP and Cath two 4A schools (by enrollment) playing for a 5A title? I could be wrong though.
  7. The biggest question for me is always can the EIAC defend the pass. I haven't seen much on Mooresville this year but I'm sure Coach Gillin has the Pioneers slinging it around. That is what the 23 vs 24 matchup always came down to over the years. Evansville Central was able to hit a few passes over the top last year to beat EC. In 2017, Ev Central was more of a ground oriented team, which was easily handled. In 3A, Lawrenceburg knocked off Danville in 2016, but struggled against Ev Memorial in 2017.
  8. The biggest knock on Mater Dei is their End Zone camera. Coach Goebel just can't seem to help it, but no matter how many car washes or bake sales they have, Mater Dei just can't seem to buy a reliable one. It breaks every year.
  9. Silly me. I used real geography instead of IHSAA geography. I assumed WeBo was in the north. I think the Mater Dei/Linton winner will play WeBo at semi state. And that winner will be at LOS (Thanks, Captain Obvious)
  10. A deep run to week 2. I think they will have a tough time with Mater Dei. I think the South rep at LOS will be decided that week.
  11. Anyone who favors an all-in, seeded tournament should have to drive from Evansville to Marengo to watch Mater Dei play Crawford County. Based on Sagarin, MD is an 87.89 point favorite.... give or take depending on home field advantage.
  12. Styles make fights. It's always hard to compare opponents in my opinion. In this matchup though, I like GS to win tonight. Coach Hart and GS seem to have Southridge's number, even in years like 2017.
  13. This is what Illinois does - somewhat. They determine the 256 playoff schools then determine classes AFTER dividing the 256 schools by enrollment (or multiplier enrollment) into top 32, next 32, etc. until they have 8 classes of 32. It could make things interesting for schools like Andrean or Southridge who have teetered on that 2A/3A enrollment line. Illinois states that even if a team is ranked in a 5A or 6A poll throughout the year, they may be classed into a different tournament after the playoff qualifiers are determined.
  14. Agree You realize you contradict yourself within the same breath? They are all restricted, unless they are open.
  15. Count me in the group with Bob. If you do a full seeding, then week 1 becomes a bloodbath. Look at your PAC brother Pike Central. In a traditional sectional 32, no matter who is the #1 HH, GS, or Southridge, no one wants to see a 69-6, 74-0, or 70-3 repeat. Only the IHSAA screwy geography prevents that this year by moving PC to 30. In my opinion, seeding and qualification (and I'm in favor of a low standard - like 2 or 3 wins or certain Sagarin rank) go hand in hand.
  16. I see the traditional’ 32 teams going 3-0 against the ‘traditional’ 31. HH @ GS week 2 will be a doozy.
  17. I’m going with the Oopty Oop on offense if I had the QB. Otherwise I have the split veer. It’s like Novocain. It will work just give it time. Defensively it’s the 6-2 stack monster.
  18. Oh wow. The Castle Knights could battle the New Pal Dragons. It would be the stuff of legends. Literally. 😄
  19. I think North/South is irrelevant in 6A. Columbus is the farthest "south" team. Columbus - Crown Point/Merrillville appears to be the farthest opponents, and that is still less than 3 hours according to Google Maps. And with most the schools concentrated around Indianapolis metro area - the north/south line is pretty fluid. If Avon/Brownsburg/Warren are truly the top 3 teams (by Sagarin), seed them so that they can meet in the finals rather than semi-finals.
  20. Interesting. Could you separate north/south then re-seed? i’ve always thought 5A and 6A would benefit the most from seeding
  21. I take responsibility for starting the Jesuit/Catholic discussion. My fault for trying to use humor. My line? It was a smart line. And a smart crowd would appreciate it. I’m not gonna dumb it down for some bonehead mass audience!
  22. My friends that attended Creighton would spend hours explaining to me that Catholic and Jesuit aren't the same thing. LOL The Chatard scores would indicate that Cathedral is the favorite. Based on past history though, Brebeuf week 1 and week 8 are completely different teams. Coach Roessler's teams get better as the season wears on.
  23. I just realized something about this. Indiana primarily plays games on Friday nights throughout the playoffs. I know Illinois generally plays playoff games on Saturdays. Do other states do that as well? My point is, if I'm an official, I would take some pride in advancing throughout the playoffs with my crew. Illinois would not be ideal, as I couldn't schedule a late October/Early November collegiate game as I would hope to be doing a playoff game. In Indiana I could. Am I oversimplifying it, or could that be a reason why Indiana has a disproportionate number of collegiate officals ?
  24. I think it's a 4A problem in general. There's nowhere close to 1/2 the teams being in the "South." Last year Marion played in Evansville for the Semi-State. The same thing could happen this year as Muncie Central is in Sectional 21 and could end up playing in Evansville (or an Evansville team could go to Muncie) for a semi-state. Just bizarre geography there.
  25. It's probably way too late in the deal for this, but would the IHSAA allow something like this? Gibson Southern sends their varsity to play Jasper on Friday night, then sends their JV/Freshmen to play Pike Central on Saturday? Or both could play Friday - again, I don't know if bylaws have any rules against it. I think that kind of set up could have been beneficial for all parties, if they could have come to agreement.
