Thanks for the info. I was mainly talking about the Central @ Jasper first round game. Dubois County (Jasper) has had 50% capacity (approx 2,500 fans) earlier in the year. Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties (where Central and 8 of 10 SIAC teams play) have had 500 or 750. For a team that can feed off a crowd, playing in front of large, vocal fan base can make emotions run higher than normal. It may not make a difference, but I was just wondering if it might.

The sectional championship is determined by the team that ‘has played the most away games.’ The rules say nothing about home games. If a game is cancelled, then it wouldn’t matter where the game was supposed to be played.

What will attendance be like this Friday? Is 50% capacity still allowed? Most years, the regular season produces 2-3 'big games' with large crowds and teams can adjust to the atmosphere by playoff time. I don't think Central has played in front of more than 750 fans this year. I wonder if the home field crowd will factor into the game? It might ramp up the emotional level or it might have no impact at all. Just something I have been wondering since I saw the sectional draw.

Warren Central vs. Brownsburg could have been a good game. But with no playoff qualification and no seeding implications, it would have been a meaningless game... or so I have been told. 😀

Illinois pretty much plays all playoff games on Saturdays, except for a few Friday night games around Chicago in the first and second rounds. My family members there talk about the special atmosphere of earning the right to play on Saturdays because that meant you made the playoffs. (Not to open that can of worms.) But yes, semi state definitely could be Saturday doubleheaders (3pm and 7pm) at neutral sites. One reason most coaches don’t like Saturday games is that they think their opponents who play on Friday get an extra day of game prep on them. Everybody playing Saturday changes that equation.

Agreed. In a similar vein, I could see an underclassmen varsity player coming back from injury playing a quarter or so to get some 'live reps' and I would have no problem with it. I will have to say within reason of course and each situation would be different depending on the player/opponents. Basically treating a JV game like the NFL treats the preseason... a few series and be done. Different sport, but I remember being a 14 year old freshman digging in against an all-conference pitcher throwing 90mph in a JV game. He had been injured and started the JV game as part of his rehab, throwing 1 inning and then went to run foul poles in the OF during the rest of the game.

I’ve known some smaller schools (2-4A) that have used a few seniors on JV so that they could still field 3 teams and not have to pull up freshman. If the choice was no JV game or use some seniors, I see no problem with it. In fact I would say it’s a pretty selfless act by the seniors to put the future of the program and their underclass teammates above their own egos. That is something commendable, IMO.

I agree with this. It looks like East Central has to travel to Mooresville again this year, which makes them slightly favored, IMO.

Assuming I have my bracket calibrations correct - if Forest Park, Mater Dei, and Reitz (vs winless Ev Harrison) all win week 1, the FP/MD game will be played somewhere other than the Bowl.

There's no scientific basis for lowering isolation time to 7 days instead of 14. I do agree that close contacts should be tested 5 days after exposure, because that is the mean & median incubation period. You recommend it as a way to game the system... i.e. they won't get contact traced again. That isn't based on science, that's based on guessing the outcome of throwing a loaded die. And don't worry, those students will have antibodies...based on science. I also got my flu shot this week. Because based on statistical evidence, it's deadlier to me and every member of my household. Yay, science! Just because my opinion is different than yours doesn't make it unintelligent or uninformed.

You and @Footballking16 are arguing a point that no one has claimed to be true. @Titan32 said The only person that even tried to compare Week 2 vs. a sectional game was FootballKing. His point was a regular season game in Indiana vs a regular season game in Illinois or Ohio with a qualifying system. Personally, I do not like the "all-in" format for our football tournament. (It really shouldn't be called a playoff, to be honest.) I do agree with Titan32's main premise - the current regular season DOES mean something. If someone thinks it doesn't, then I am afraid they are missing out on the big picture of HS football.

Ah. That’s it. I knew NP was involved somehow. The year the game was played at GS, I think Mater Dei offered to play NP at NP, but they wanted to stand on the home side. At least that was the rumor I heard. But Coach Goebel’s dislike for Saturday games at all costs is well known.

I'm coming around to the idea, but my biggest sticking point is what you have in 6A and 2A. Is it asking the impossible for Homestead's Athletic Director to host and get workers for the 4A regional while their team plays that same night? Same with Harrison (WL). It could be possible, but in my experience the PA, clock, stats, gates, concession workers, etc. are pretty dedicated workers. They would most likely want to see the team play in the regional vs. working a game of two teams they have no connection to. If this could be addressed, I would be 100% on board with the idea.

I remember Reitz hosting Silver Creek (when they had just started their program) when SC was supposed to host. The IHSAA deemed the stadium unfit to host. I also remember Mater Dei hosting a game at North Posey because all the fields in the city were occupied for Round 1. But I don't remember a switch ever due to a regular season game/result.

Sadly it sounds like they are... but the players have been "contact traced" out to quarantine. Never before have we tested people with NO symptoms and quarantined completely healthy individuals just IN CASE. But I digress...

Southpaw did a nice job breaking down 40. I'm sure there are others who know more about 30 & 32 and can talk about those matchups. But I'm intrigued by the other SIAC sectionals 15 & 24. SECTIONAL 15 Sect Class Overall Evansville North 1- 0 1- 0 5- 2 Bloomington South 1- 0 3- 1 4- 3 Bloomington North 0- 1 3- 1 3- 3 Castle 0- 1 0- 1 5- 1 I'm still not used to the #15 instead of #16 number for Ev North and Castle. Years of being matched up with the Terre Hautes or east to New Albany/Jeffersonville/Floyd Central have been paused the last 2 years as this has become the I-69 sectional. Former regional foes are now battling in the same sectional. The week 1 matchup between Castle and North (14-7 final score) seems like months ago now. I'm curious if they get a rematch week 2 after their bye weeks or if bus on I-69 time. A lot of potential rematches are possible. We no longer have to speculate how Jasper matches up with Reitz and Central as in previous years either. Same with Memorial as they are now playing 4A. Northview is quietly having a good season outside the view of most SW Indiana fans. Central and Jasper are the two favorites. Who gets to host the potential matchup and will it be the first round like Reitz/Central always seemed to be?

I respectfully disagree, because I don't like telling teams you are "competitive enough" to play up but can't really make a true deep run to semi state or state because they won two sectionals. Making it 3 points is more than just an arbitrary number. Sectionals are geographically drawn and subject to some weird lines at times. Take Brownstown and Lawrenceburg for example (I think that is closer to your part of the state?). But they matched up in Semi-state in 2016 and first round of the sectional the next. Winning sectional in 2017 was a much different animal than 2016 for both of them. Southridge is currently bumped up to 3A. A few different lines drawn and they probably win Sectional 30 last year and this year. As it is, they didn't get out of sectional 32 which was much tougher. My point is that just based on where the lines are drawn, some sectionals are drastically tougher than others. And once schools reach 5A (like New Pal, Columbus East, and Cathedral) those sectionals are only 4 teamers. I'm not saying you have to win state like New Pal or Evansville Memorial did last year, but 2 straight sectionals is not enough for me to tell the freshmen and sophomores - Your older teammates were "competitive enough" so you have to stay in that class for your junior and senior years.

Southridge 'stays up' with a Regional win (2 points). New Pal and Evansville Memorial already have 4 points with state titles in 2019. They will stay up unless they win regional (2 more points) and get bumped up again.

I believe both of those statements are true. However with New Pal needing to get through Whiteland and Cathedral and Ev Memorial facing Ev Central and Mooresville/East Central, I think the assumption is that neither team will make it that far.
