  1. I am not a fan of Coach Moore's comments. (Assuming of course, he was not misquoted or taken out of context.) A better response, would be "I do not know what other teams and coaches are doing. I can only speak to what my team is doing and that is...." I can name a list of things I have "known" over the years: - Other schools give their linemen steroids to take during advanced PE - Other schools routinely practice on Sundays - Other schools take their teams out of state in summer so they can hide violating the contact day limits - Other schools recruit players from outside of the district to come play for them - Players from other schools have been arrested/ suspended/ failed every class/ etc. and still never missed a game of football These are all things I have "known" because I heard it from someone who heard it from a reliable source. I know what my son and his team are doing. That's it. I would not say I "know" what other coaches, teams, and schools are doing based on hints or reports leaked. Just my $.02
  2. My one burning question: If we start fall sports season with no fans present, or at most only family, how will the soccer kids know the difference? 😀
  3. This isn’t geared towards you Boilerfan - but this phrasing irritates me. ‘Discussions are taking place about school not starting on time. Perhaps not until after Labor Day.’ I will add I bet discussions are also including not starting until January. That’s my irritation. The media especially is reporting these discussions as that is what we THINK will happen and not what they really are - contingency plans. I’m 90% confident we will start school on time this fall. But my school is still making plans for a 2 week, 4 week, half semester and full semester delay plans. To not have a ‘discussion’ about a potential plan until August 1 would be irresponsible. I’m sure there are football coaches having discussions about a goal line wishbone package right now. The media would pick up this info and report it as ‘Team X is having discussions on being 90% run next year.’ We will be back in the fall. A failure to plan for the slimmest chance we won’t would be poor academic leadership. That’s all these ‘discussions’ are.
  4. Has there been a vaccine for death that I'm not aware of? Some way to prevent it? Every life is precious and every death is tragic. But last time I checked, living has a 100% mortality rate. You are absolutely right, there are populations vulnerable to this particular virus. So we should do everything we can to protect them. That needs to be the focus of our efforts and resources. Not sending police to keep kids off playground equipment.
  5. https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-spain-to-lift-some-of-its-covid-19-lockdown-rules-11972473 Spain is beginning to roll back some of its lockdown restrictions. It will be an interesting case study to watch.
  6. He’s a big body, so why don’t you just throw him on defense? That’s the fan version of a head coach delegating defense because it’s not important - one of your pet peeves.
  7. Thanks! 2 Evansville corrections. Joey Elliott [Purdue] is from Evansville Harrison (not Lafayette) Steven Scheu [Vanderbilt] is from Evansville (Reitz) Memorial not Evansville (FJ) Reitz
  8. I was completely anti-this idea. I have changed my mind. (Quarantine does weird things to you, man.) Most ideas put forth on the subject have two major flaws, one of which you could run into as well. 1. Trying to ensure equal distance for competitors. It would be nice, but that can't be the primary goal. I'm more familiar with southern geography so I will use those examples - Heritage Hills could have played Vincennes Lincoln in the 3A South. Or it could have been Lawrenceburg instead of HH. Amongst the 4 possible teams: HH, Danville, Lawrenceburg, and VL, that is a lot of ground to cover. If your ultimate goal is to find a midway point, you could not pick it until after those regionals would have been played. Martinsville was done week 2 of sectional. Unless they knew well in advance, their athletic department might have completely switched to basketball. Pre-selected sites with the IHSAA placing four teams there would have to be how it was set up. Your idea does that. 2. The other major flaw that you could run into is with your designation of Arsenal Tech (your alternative to Warren) and Columbus North could not both be sites. Even as likely as it may be, you cannot have the chance that a team could be playing in a semi-state and hosting a semi-state the same day. If Tech and Columbus North both advanced to that point, one of the teams would host, meanwhile the other school's AD and game-day workers would have to stay back to host on their own field. I like your idea. I just think the sticking point will be the Saturday thing. That would have to be a state decision and many coaches would not go into that willingly. They are creatures of habit and like the rhythm of a Friday night game and hate Saturdays.
  9. https://twitter.com/FSIndiana/status/1200913903963656194?s=20 I'm fully aware of recency bias, but this play in the state finals last year was one of the most amazing runs I have ever seen in person.
  10. Thanks. This thread has proved my point.
  11. I would hope so. As it is, i have wanted to respond to a few threads, but when they all get dragged into the same cesspool of arguments- I am afraid my comments will get missed.
  12. In the words of Michael Scott ‘That’s what she said.’ Lol I liked the alliteration of 53 feet vs 53 yards, but realized that left me a foot short. I corrected one but not the other. But you’re right, it could make a difference. Game of inches.
  13. I'm less concerned about Reitz's schedule than the question - how many passes did their opponents attempt? I understand these discussions are all in fun, I just wonder how much stock you can put into the 'unscored' upon claim. And this isn't a knock on 1961 Reitz, 1918 Kentland, or any of the other 9. When the game was played 53 feet wide (hash to hash) instead of 53 1/3 yards wide, it is tough to compare. If we are discussing which team would win a matchup head to head or it could be which team was most dominant against its opposition. I feel like those are always two different questions.
  14. Reckless? Huh? Did I miss something? Good luck to the Wildcats this year.
  15. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/03/19/ihsaa-changes-spring-sport-practice-requirements/2879017001/ Someone with more knowledge than me will have to educate us on Bylaw 15-2. Does that mean club volleyball and soccer teams can resume their weekend tournaments in Atlanta, St. Louis, Orlando, and so on? That would be great for HS athletes. (sarcasm)
  16. That makes very little sense to me. Winter sports season is over - with the exception of 64 out of 412 schools. Not to be a stickler either - but it’s only a boys sport that is unfinished. When will this be over? Who knows for sure. But as it is, Girls Track sectional is May 19th. Boys Track is May 21st. Girls tennis and softball the following week, with baseball and boys golf the week after. If (and definitely if) sports resume between now and those dates, I don’t see how in good conscious you could tell athletes in those six sports their chance at any competition is less important than an unfinished basketball tournament. Practice? I think athletes could run, jump, throw, and swing a bat/racket/club just as easily as shoot a basketball between now and then too.... and outdoors.
  17. I could be mistaken, but didn’t Seymour get turf installed on their football field the year before Brownstown did? If my county rival improved their facility, I would want to do the same. That’s all I meant. Nothing negative implied. But as you said being such a pro-sports community, maybe the plan was already in place for BC’s upgrades before that.
  18. In your opinion, was the awful condition of the 2016 regional field the reason BC got turf? Or was it more keeping up with Seymour?
  19. I hear that. Although without Sportscenter late at night or over morning coffee, we might have to * gasp * talk as a family. 😄
  20. Google is your friend https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/2020/03/02/chca-names-kc-woods-new-head-football-coach/4932779002/
  21. Any results posted? Always excited to see who has been working hard in the off season.
  22. I went to the Memorial/Chatard semi state in 2009 at Tech. I really liked that atmosphere, and it was a good crowd. Haven’t been back, but from the looks of the games I have seen streamed online since then, Tech looks really nice with the turf and updates. Reitz Bowl is nice. Just wish I could see in the dark! Lol
  23. Germans? Pearl Harbor? Don’t stop him, he’s on a roll. 😄 It will be interesting to see the impact of coaching hires on roster numbers. It could be a boost for all 3 schools.
  24. The white is a probably a 3‘ x 3’ concrete pad surrounding a 12-18 inch drain. (Small metal circle inside the concrete square.) The issue is that the concrete is probably 2-3 inches off the out of bounds line on the north visitor 20 yard line. I think they cover it with plywood or a PE Mat during games, but it’s still a dangerous spot. Not much worse than sprinkler heads filled with sand I have seen at other natural grass fields, the crash pad in the dark corner of Reitz Bowl, or the pole vault incline at Boonville.
