I also remember the Aristocrat Pub in Indy/Broad Ripple having a tasty breaded tenderloin.

Aristocrat is still there. Lived at 49th and College for some time out of college and that was always a good walking spot for me. Plump's Last Shot (not sure if it's still around) owned by Bobby Plump had a joint in Broad Ripple that also had a pretty good tenderloin.

Since the closure of Nickel Plate, Dooley O'Toole's in Carmel probably serves my favorite current tenderloin.

Big difference with disagreeing and attacking.  Many, many posters on here that want to attack someone who has a differing opinion, rather than offer up alternatives or banter back and forth.

Spare me that DT is the victim in all this

Imagine if you @DT were not seen as the thin skinned one, and rather, all of the people whose feelings get hurt just read your commentary for what it is.  I do not agree with a lot of what you post, but that is actually a good thing.  We need more positive disagreements in our society, rather than the, "You are wrong, you suck, so shut up and go away!" mentality that has infiltrated so many areas of our lives.  Imagine where our game would be today if there were never any dissenters and everyone was ok with just going with the flow.  Kuddos to you and your unpopular opinions Mr. @DT!

Nothing wrong with disagreement. But DT chose to take his ball and go home. Not any of our faults he can't handle it.

  5. I'm not aware of any conferences that have more than 10 members so in our current 9 week format, means you at least get to play everyone in your conference without any non-conference games (SAC is the one conference that comes to mind and I'm sure there are more). Have always been a proponent of adding a tenth regular season game and then eliminating half the field at the conclusion of the regular season. That allows you to start and end the season on the same dates under the current. Adding a tenth regular season game would allow every school to schedule at least one non-conference game and in some cases 3-4 for the smaller conferences. Also a proponent of a series of "bowl games" to be held during the week of the first round of the sectionals for teams that didn't qualify. In my qualifier you're guaranteed at least 10 games (same number as the current all-in format) with the option to play an 11th.

    Absolutely

Same size and build.  Same hair.  Reminded me a lot of Boomer.  Huge arm.

Thought he was a sure fire NFL starter.  Not sure when and where the wheels came off.  he had one great year at UC then got beat out by some underclassman.  I think he got heavy and lazy  Had it all in his hands.

A lot more issues than just being heavy and lazy, including a ton of injuries. But that's for another time.

If you need seniors to be able to field a JV  team, then you have a huge numbers problem.  Are you saying that if you can just scrape together 11 guys to jump on the bus and drive across town to play a game that you have done your job ?  Thats ludicrous.  Kids are not supposed to be on the field for every single offensive, defensive and special teams play in a game.  This is how people get hurt and broken down.  Certainly you are going to have two way players, but even they deserve some plays off during ball transition to catch a breath.  Ive seen several stories on this forum where varsity buses have showed up to play with 15 players.  Thats a joke at the varsity level, let alone JV or frosh.

This is where contraction comes into place.  Admins and coaches owe student athletes a safe and competitive environment in which to play.  If they cannot provide that due to low numbers, poor equipment, no insurance, or lack of community support, then they should not send these kids out into harms way.

There's a lot of truth to what you say, but in the event it takes 1-2 seniors to field a JV team I guess I don't have a problem with it. Then again I don't know what senior would want to actually play JV but there isn't a rule prohibiting it.

  8. Probably one of the few times I'll agree with DT although probably wouldn't be as brazen about it. I guess it probably does all depend on the size of the school though. Like others have said, I view freshman/JV teams as purely developmental and a senior taking away valuable playing time from an underclassman undermines the purpose. Do understand the point of view though where if a senior or two plays than it actually allows for a JV team to be fielded and that I can get behind.

When was the last time two nationally ranked teams from Indiana both played each other in the regular-season? I'm hard-pressed to think of a match-up that even closely resembles this one.

Pretty sure Brownsburg-Avon played each other a few years back when Brandon Peters and Hunter Johnson were still around on ESPN. Not sure if either was nationally ranked but it was definitely profiling two high end recruits.

  10. Couple early keys for both teams.

    Cathedral

-attack CG's secondary up the seams. Lawrence North exposed CG's secondary in the first half of their game last Friday. Cathedral's wideouts aren't as explosive as Cooper from LN but athletic enough and should be able to have a big night if McCahill is given protection.

-force CG into obvious passing downs. Don't think it's any secret CG will want to keep the ball on the ground and keep Cathedral's O off the field. Jackson is a great QB but it's pretty clear CG prefers the ball to be in Steele's hands

    Center Grove

-make Cathedral one dimensional on offense. Cathedral has a very balanced offensive attack and can beat you on the ground and through the air.

-Win the LOS. Cathedral has dominated it's opponents on both sides of the ball at the line of scrimmage. Center Grove, especially their DL, will be the toughest unit Cathedral has seen to date and will see all year.

I heard from inside sources that ESPN wanted this game to be played on Saturday evening. Both teams could not agree on moving it to Saturday. What a shame.

Not sure I'm buying that. With college football in full swing, doubt this was getting a prime time slot. Possibly ESPNU, but definitely not being aired on ESPN or ESPN2.

Teams outside of the Top 32 have never won a state championship and Sagarin correctly predicts around 78% of winners consistently

Taking it a step further, teams outside the top 32 upsetting a team inside the top 32 happen at an extremely low rate. Talking 2-3 times in any given year. Teams outside the top 32 that advance, advance by virtue of playing another team outside the top 32.

The Cinderella myth that comes with the blind draw is a total farce. Upsets and underdog runs to Indy simply don’t exist in this format.

Nope....this part of the argument is total, complete, unadulterated BS.

Literally meaningless. How else does an 0-9 team make the playoffs? How does an undefeated conference champion play a road game in the first round of the playoffs? You could theoretically schedule 9 bye weeks and still make the postseason. The outcomes of the first nine weeks have literal zero meaning. You can’t argue otherwise.

  14. 14 minutes ago, hhpatriot04 said:

Just eliminate the scrimmage and add in a bye week (5A & 6A aren't allowed to use it Week 9 to eliminate the possibility of back-to-back bye weeks, or make it so teams can choose whether to play 9 or 10 games... As we found out this year, it's not the end of the world if all the teams in the tournament haven't played nine games.

I'm not sold on the 10th game or whatnot. TW once ran the numbers and a team outside of Sagarin's Top 32 after Week 9 has NEVER won a state championship -- including the Northwood, Mater Dei, FW Luers teams which had 2 or 3 wins heading into the tournament. Things are more complicated now by the evilness and seeming spread of closed conferences (which would definitely complicate any kind of seeding or playoffs vs. an all-in tournament).

There was a 4-5 year period where I tracked playoff matchups between top half Sagarin teams and bottom half Sagarin rated teams. The data was staggering and only furthers the need for a qualification system.

Seeding DOES NOT have to equal a “qualification”’format!!!

Seeding would just make for a better tourney format- plain and simple. And yes, it will at least give SOME meaning to the regular season.

“Oh- there is going to be a bunch of first round blowouts between the 1v8 and 2v7”

So what?? There are blowouts every week.

You’d still have PLENTY of competitive match-ups round one

You can still seed and alleviate the obvious blowouts in round 1; add a tenth game and eliminate half the field using some sort of rating formula that computes W-L record, SOS, opponent SOS, opponent W-L. It’s so simple that literally EVERY other state in the union has figured it out.

We are not talking about post season play here, of course play off games mean more when they might be the last game you ever play.  Some believe there is no relevance to regular season games unless there is a playoff qualification system, to each their own, but even if one doesn't care about conference implications...down here in SWI every Friday is the superbowl.  I am sorry if some parts of the state don't get to experience that.  There is nothing you could have done last night in SWI with regard to qualification to change last nights Castle vs Jasper or Memorial vs North or even Gibson Southern vs Princeton.  All of these games had specific undertones, nuances, sub plots and meanings...nothing about qualification could have impacted that.

Make your blow-out arguments and arguments regarding impending qualification after seeding begins....but I will never buy the BS about our games needing some sort of adrenaline boost.  It's just not true.

Then why does every single state, in every sport at every level have a qualification format? Because the regular season is supposed to mean something. Our current format renders the regular season all for not. You cannot tell me otherwise.

This “rah-rah, Superbowl, play every game like it’s your last” is absolute BS. Win or lose in week 7, you’re automatically in the postseason and your draw is determined by a ping pong ball. You want to talk about undertones and sub-plots, how about a postseason berth on the line? No one is saying the regular season isn’t exciting, but the outcomes of all nine games literally mean nothing. They are glorified exhibition games.

You and @Footballking16 are arguing a point that no one has claimed to be true. @Titan32 said

The only person that even tried to compare Week 2 vs. a sectional game was FootballKing.  His point was a regular season game in Indiana vs a regular season game in Illinois or Ohio with a qualifying system.  Personally, I do not like the "all-in" format for our football tournament. (It really shouldn't be called a playoff, to be honest.)

I do agree with Titan32's main premise - the current regular season DOES mean something.  If someone thinks it doesn't, then I am afraid they are missing out on the big picture of HS football.

In regards to the postseason, the regular season doesn’t mean a thing. It doesn’t. You’re automatically in the tournament and your draw is based on a ping pong ball. That cannot be disputed. In every sport, at every level, postseason inclusion/seeding/draw is based on regular season performance. It’s not unique, it’s nonsense.
