Temp’s Top 25 (College Edition) (Week 1)
Boilernation replied to temptation's topic in The Next Level
My initial observations from Week 1: FSU hit a HR in the transfer portal and looks legit. They have a nice path laid out in front of them to make the playoff Penn State's new QB is pretty damn good USC has a problem with their D which isn't good because.... The Pac 12 is going out on a high note. A lot of good offenses in that league Oregon Bo Nix >>>>>>>>>>>> Auburn Bo Nix LSU did not look like LSU to me on Sunday night. No run game and weak CB play. Drake Maye reminds me of Brees at Purdue in that he can throw a pick or 2 and still have a very solid performance. The 'Heels should be Top 10 by the end of the year I love the Colorado turnaround but I think they're still overhyped TCU is not a Top 25 team. Lost wayyyyy too much from last years team. I think they lost 16 starters. Even the highlites of the Minnesota/Nebraska game were ugly. I'll gladly welcome the addition of USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon to the BIg Ten.- 1 reply

This!!! No way he can keep that pace all year.

Agreed. And they're in a very good spot geography wise as they're right off of I-85 and a close drive away from Charlotte and Atlanta. Not to mention South Carolina has a history of pumping out NFL players that'll go to Clemson. Plus, the campus itself and Death Valley are appealing. As you temp said though, the ceiling isn't as high for Dabo when he doesn't have Elite coordinators or Watson, Higgins and Etienne.
-
Have to give him credit. That was one of the most impressive performances I've seen. I don't thik recent 2 way players like Woodson or Bailiey or Gamble ever put on a performance like that. His INT near the goal line was even an unbelievable play. Baited the QB to throw a quick route and somehow managed to make up ground and get the INT. Throw in 11 catches for 119 yards on offense.
-
What are your thoughts on rolling Card out on that play? Trying to run up middle again was atrocious. Pretty lacklaster performance by Harrell and the D, IMO. Agreed about Tedford. I had a feeling he would have a field day on the Purdue D. Credit to their QB for the throws he was making. He put on a great performance. @temptation Can't really disagree with your rankings after Week 1. Thought Illinois might be too high. It took a 4th down miracle play from their QB and WR for them to escape Toledo.
-
Agreed. Coach Prime would put a D on his jersey. At this rate it appears the NFL is in his future. I'm looking forward to watching him. Sounds like a bigger version of East Chicago's Kawaan Short who ended up having a pretty good NFL career.

Temp’s Top 25 (Week 3)

Agreed on BD vs. CG. It's just conjecture at this point. I didn't think Penn looked 6A great against Valpo. Valpo's front 7 on D couldn't handle the the RPO and Penn burned them for some long runs. After the game I felt that Penn either looked like a dominate 5A team or just an above average 6A Team. -

No shame in getting thumped by DeMatha, but Springfield lost to Trotwood-Madison on Friday night. Weird year so far in Ohio Division 1. Outside of the drives in garbage time, the only time I though Moe's offense looked good against East Central was when the Michigan RB had some running room. He's legit. I think he tore East Central apart last year. Kudos to East Central's streaming crew. Top notch. -
Carson Steele Gets Some Airtime on ESPN with SVP
Boilernation replied to Bash Riprock's topic in The Next Level
Yeah, the announcers of the Purdue game commented all game long how athletic and mobile Card is, yet the Boilers tried running up the middle over and over on short yardage situations. I'm guessing IU would like to have Penix back as well. Back to Steele, I watched all of the UCLA offensie posessions. He definately looks like he belongs. Kid is still a beast. Congrats to him. Stories like his and Bradon Fiske (Michigan CIty) are positive reasons to support the transfer portal. I have not heard Fiske's name since he was an unheralded OL commit to Western Michigan years ago. He took advantage of the portal to get one year of playing DL for Florida State. He had 2 tackles against LSU and was int he DL rotation all game. -
Temp’s Top 25 (Week 3)

Really looking forward to this one. Fishers is one of the most impressive teams I've seen this year. They have great balance and play calling on O with the Khobie Martin power running between tackles and taking advantage of their speed at the WR position with sweeps and getting them involved in the short passing game. -

2 nitpickings: Still disagree with you on the top spot. It's CG's to lose. Not taking anything away from East Central, but I think the ease at which they beat Big Moe signals the Crusaders are in trouble and not among Ohio's Elite this year. That diminishes Ben Davis' impressive win a little. Do you think Kokomo, Bloomington South and Reitz would beat Penn? Seems like you're now moving the Vikings down due to the MOV in the Cathedral/Penn game. -
Where have you been hearing buzz about a system of relegation? Seems farfetched. Not sure how I think about it. Seems like it would suck as a Purdue fan and be great as an overrall fan of college football.

Makes sense. I wasn't even thinking about Zionsville. 26 Sounds about right for the Eagles. They need to find a way to get Hilton involved at all times in the offense. He's ridiculously good. Had one play against Lebanon that made me chuckle. He was at leat 10 yards behind the secondary and had to slow down for what turned out to be a jump ball with a DB because the QB didn't have the arm to hit him in stride. Give him a QB like Cherry who has a Power 5 arm and that would be a scary combo. -

Temp’s Top 25 (Week 2)
Boilernation replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
No drastic disagreements from me. Just a little nit picking. I would swap Center Grove and Ben Davis. No disrespect to the Giants, but I’m giving CG the edge due to the arm of Cherry, how impressive they looked against a big and fast Oakland team, and Eric Moore. I would put Carroll and Penn above Crown Point. Crown Point is really good, but they also played about as weak of an OOC schedule they could put together. I’d give Carroll and Penn the bump for who they've played so far. Big one this Friday though as neighboring rivals Crown Point and Merrillville play. I like the Noblesville love at 14. Great opportunity on Friday to climb a step higher in the HCC pecking order. Franklin Central may be too low at 20. Where do you have the following teams: Evansville Memorial Decatur Central Plainfield -

That was unheard of with Wright and Tutsie. Something is broken and the guy the top of the chain hasn't figured it out. -

Well, if the talent is still there, then it's up to Kirshner and Co. to develop them. -

Noblesville vs. Homestead
Boilernation replied to Boilernation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I don't know BTF. That was one of the worst Homestead teams I've seen in years. I was on the Homestead bandwagon a few years ago. This team just looks.........inexperienced. There's still some meat on the bones in terms of talent. -
Ha! Well played. I have some thoughts on your Top 25 and opinions I'll share later. Watching Man U get embarrassed. They're like the Dallas Cowboys of English PL. I was very surprised you still at Center Grove at 2. Perhaps I keep falling victim to recency bias as I severely over estimated Pike's abilities after week 1. Yikes, I was at Lebanon last night. It was an ugly first half for Zionsvile. They gotta get there crap together or Westfield is going to curbstop them.
-
42-0 with a running clock that started in the 3rd quarter. Homestead literally couldn’t do anything. Couldn’t stop the Power T. Couldn’t stop the trap. Couldn’t build a rhythm on offense. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse performance out of the Spartans. Noblesville is interesting. Pretty big and aggressive on D. A lot of 3rd year players. Offense is running the Power T to perfection and they have a TE with 4 Mac and an IU offer. He made some very nice plays tonight in the passing game. The HCC is deep this year.

Does CG just have a tree that grows freakishly athletic DL? Geez.

Nailed it. And most GM's seem like they rather buy the $50K Ford and spend money elsewhere. Honestly, sometimes they get just as much producton out of the $25K used Pinto than the $100K Mercedes. I would be interest in seeing the Top 20 RB's by overall statistical category from last year and their comps as well as where they are in percentile of total NFL players.
