Mason Resigns at Michigan City
Boilernation replied to Tommy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I have a feeling he's joking considering Buck is his son. -
Thanks. Was that candidate a current HC?
-
I'm completely out of the loop. How was the Portage search blundered?
-
That's really interesting to me. Did he get a big NIL deal?
-
Thanks. Nuebert was a student at Purdue at the same time as me and I remember him covering Purdue athletics for The Exponent. Agreed. He's fantastic, doesn't pull punched, and will never be caught playing the role of fanboy with his head in the sand.

Are these published stories by local media? Curious to see as this is the first I'm hearing about it.
-
I get it, but I don't like it. Guys were getting paid too much money to be one foot in and one foot out. Everyone needs to be held accountable, epecially at those pay levels, to produce and not just mail it in. A loss was inevitable. Coaches, paid by Purdue, mailing it in because of the situation is inexcusable to me.

I watched at most 3 minutes of that game. The writing was on the wall when it was known the amount and quality of Purdue starters who were sitting out. LSU has way too much talent across their depth charts for a seriously depleted Purdue team to compete with. With that said, is it fair to criticize Brian Brohm and Hagen at all for that performance? Personally, I would have been embarrassed if I were them. No fight whatsoever. Nor did they look prepared.
-
Exactly. Michigan was the better team, beat themselves, and then watched as their enemy proved Georgia was beatable. Talk about salt in the wound. Michigan's schedule is looking very favorable next year. No big OOC games. Ohio State at home.
-
Have to give TCU credit. Unfairly, they often get labled soft because Big 12 seems to be a "No D" league, but this is the 2nd time they've pushed a Big Ten team (Wisconsin - Rose Bowl) around in the trenches. That call made zero sense. No possibly way replay could be used to provide definitive evidence he was down at the 1. None. It was clear he didn't even gain posession until he was on the goal line at a minimum. At the time I didn't even care because I assumed Michigan would punch it in from the goal line.

What stage of grief are you in? I was in denial for about 2 weeks after Virginia beat Purdue.

Forgot to add a MAJOR one for Ohio State. They would have successfully completed a fake punt for a crucial 1st down in the 4th Quarter when Georgia was on the verge of completely taking momentum. But, UGA read it and called TO just before Ohio State snapped the ball. Not sure if that one should have been granted to Kirby.

Man, really brutal way for both Big Ten teams to lose. Thinking back on some monumental missed opportunities for each off the top of my head: Michigan 4th & Goal on 1st posession and they get cute with a reverse that gets sniffed out before it even had a chance 2 Pick Sixes for JJ. Not necessarily a missed opportunity for the Wolverines, but 2 pick sixes in the same game is so rare The obvious being the TD called back and subsequent fumble on the next play Duggan avoiding pressure (he's so good at drifting and keeping the play alive) on 3rd & Long to complete a 76 yard TD pass Missed targeting call on last play of game? I didn't see this one. I've read Michigan should have received one more play. No Blake Corum and the youngster was forced to throw the ball likely more than Harbaugh would have preferred. Ohio State Not once but twice squandering 14 point leads Georgia had zero answer for Harrison JR and he ends up getting knocked out of the game on a controversial non target call 3rd town. That would have been 1st & Goal Buckeyes with a chance to go up by 18. Instead, they kicked the FG and only went up by 14 Last but not least, after a 27 yard run by Stroud, the Buckeyes had 1st and 10 from the Georgia 31 with 24 seconds left. In 3 plays they couldn't even gain one year, which left them with a 50 yard FG attempt to win Injuries. Granted all teams suffer injuries and I'm not saying Ohio State wins if healthy, but, I have to think the OSU staff will look back at this year and think what could have been with that high powered offense if Henderson and Smith-Njigba were healthy in the CFP along with getting Harrison Jr for a full game. He's a beast. On the flip side though their defense was atrocious the past two game.

I just heard that Warren was involved in the building of US Bank Stadium when he was the COO for the Vikings. Seems like a no brainer considering his experience with the Big Ten as well as the fact the Bears have a massive construction progress on the horizon in Arlington Heights.
-
Good points. Kelly seems like the type of guy that can weather a storm though. I know he got really choked up after the Alabama win, but he just strikes me as the type that wouldn't be phased at all by a rabid Bayou Bengal fanbase, Donors, etc.

You or I would be an upgrade over Ted Phillips. Only in Halas Hall could an Accountant work his way up the org chart and land the role of President over football operations. This is promising to see McCaskey appears to bringing in someone that actually understands how a sports entity is ran.
-
There you go! Maybe the Raiders would take that #2 for Adams.
-
Agree on helping Fields, but, I just randomly looked at 2 Mock Drafts. Both had the Bears taking DL at 2 (Carter in one and Anderson in the other). Neither mock had a WR going in the Top 10. The 6'4 WR from TCU was the first WR being taken in both mocks. I don't know much about him. Jordan Addison was next and he's projecting at mid 1st round. You want the Bears to take a WR at 2 if the player isn't even a top 10-20 pick on most boards? IMO, that's very risky when you have the luxury of picking between Carter or Anderson.

Now that the dust had settled I feel better about the situation. I wish Allen well and I look forward to watching him wherever he ends up; however, it's clear he wasn't going to be anointed QB1 by Brohm or Walters/Harrell wihtout a competition. At the end of the day Walters has to make the tough decisions that he feals are necessary to win. And as Coach alluded above, the odds were likely stacked against Allen at Purdue considering he's not the prototypical QB for Harrell's offense. Still, IMO, the Twitter video was cringe. I'll accept that this stuff is the norm for some coaches in modern day college athletics, but I'll never enjoy it. Seems childish.

This would be incredible. I'm sure there a few teams desperate enough for a QB that would give up a lot to get ahead of Houston in the draft order. Every mock I've seen has the Bears taking either the DT from Georgia or Alabama. I know the Bears badly need a Tier 1 WR; however, can they really pass on of those DT's? The DL was gutted this year and either one of those guys should be an instant impact player.

Look at Michigan. It's amazing. They don't have a single Top 100 HS Recruit. BUT, they have the #2 rated Transfer Portal Class (still unreal to me this is our reality) with at least 5 guys that can start right away. Has Harbaugh cracked the secret code to recruiting? Why waste time sweating out committments to stupid hat ceremonies and the likes of Nick Saban coming in on signing day with a sales pitch and NIL deal too good to pass up. Just bring in guys who you know can peform at a level you need from playing against them or watching them on tape.
-
Major cringe. Ugh. I don't like the look this entire situation sends to potential recruits from Indiana as well as coaches.
-
I hope he makes Purdue regret losing him as well just not while in the Big Ten. I only watched him play 1 HS football game and I came away thoroughly sold that he wasn't just showing the difference between a BIg 10 and MAC recruit, moreso that he was showing the difference between a high end to low end Big Ten recruit. The throws he was making in that game against Brebeuf were elite. I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do at Purdue when given the chance.
-
Whether it was his discussions on his age or ability at the College level, I feel like this guy was such a controversial player coming out of HS. Hope he does well at Ball State, even though I'm convinced he was at least 20 by the time he came to IU.
-
It really is. I couldn't imaging getting paid that much money to coach FB and then complaining that another coach is negatively recruiting against me. That's something you keep in house. It could be worse. At least he's not pulling a Dabo and claiming that he builds his programs NIL in God's name, image, and likeliness.
