  1. Something like that would be scheduled on a Saturday. No different than Lake Central going to Penn on a weekday and the Duneland was fully on board with bringing Penn in a few years ago. I like the idea of bringing the Lafayette schools into the fold, but I realize it will never happen. I do believe Penn and Elkhart will happen at somepoint. It will be interesting to see how they navigage the time zone diffrences with the Kingsmen and Lions.
  2. Morton, Hammond Central, East Chicago, and West Side would only be able to compete in a select limited amount of sports. It would be disastrous in most sports and they wouldn't even field teams in others. For better or worse, those 4 will either be on an island by themselves or go Independent. Hanover Central, Wheeler, Griffith, and even Boone Grove would all be better options for NCC expansion. Possibly looking at Illiana Christian in the future depending upon their level of growth.
  3. Portage had the visiting side of the Brickie Bowl at standing room only by about 5 PM. Hobart's Admin. was pi**ed that some seats were ripped up. What they don't realize is they snapped from fans jumping up and down when Christian took the first play from scrimmage to the house. That was a beating Portage had waited their entire history to give to Hobart, at the famed Brickie Bowl no less. It's a shame Buzz is making a fortune across the State Line in Illinois. Would love to see him mend bridges at Portage and finish what he started dating back to his days as OC for Bubba Mattix.
  4. I read on Yappi that La Salle is banged up and playing without a decent amount of key players. I'm changing my pick to Catheral by 23.
  5. Lafayette to St. John 85m Lafayette to Merrillville 81m Lafayette to Crown Point 79m Lafayette to Munster 94m Let's get crazy and go with this Super Conference: Big 14 West: Lake Central, Merrillville, Crown Point, Jeff, McCutcheon, Harrison, Munster Big 14 East: Portage, Valpo, Chesterton, LaPorte, Michigan City, Penn, Elkhart You get your wish with Munster, who can compete in every sport besides football, finally joining the "Duneland" members. 6 Division games, 1 crossover, 1 "Championship Week" similiar to what the Hoosier does, 1 OOC game.
  6. I took a look at their recruits that show up on 247 Sports: Class of 2021: 6'1 CB committed to Cincinnati, 6'1 S committed to Ohio State, 6'0 CB committed to Alabama, and 6'0 CB committed to Miami (OH) Class of 2022: 4 Star RB with offers from Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, etc. That is an impressive amount of talent in the Secondary. They did give up over 50 points to Elder (2 OT game). I'll go with Irish by 15.
  7. Good to see. I was a little skeptical their broadcast crew would make the long trip to 46th & Arlington.
  8. Possibly here. I watched a few of their games last year and they stream most of their athletic events. https://boxcast.tv/channel/kcDxLlLCeqOvc4rAmBlg
  9. Which is why I would argue this could be a huge benefit for Merrillville. If I'm Seiss, I want to see all of my weaknesses before potentially playing a Hamilton County/Fort Wayne school in Semi State. Elkhart could potentially be a monster lurking in Regionals. And then Lafayette Jeff is still there in Sectionals. Columbus North can show the Pirates a lot more than at least 75% of their schedule.
  10. Me too! That Castle team in '94 was big and tough. They completely wore us (Portage) down in the 2nd half of the '94 State Title game. I believe they only led by 6 going into the 4th quarter and ended up winning 30-12. The O-Line was massive and they could just run behind them at will with the little RB or Lidy (built like a mack truck) on QB keepers. I went back and looked at their results. I would have assumed they lost to North (State Runner Up following year with Deke Cooper), but they beat North. Both losses (Central and Bosse) were early in the season. Was Levron Williams already carrying the ball for Bosse in '94? He and Randle El were a lethal combination at IU.
  11. This has a link to his audio from the post game presser. Head in sand... https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2020/9/14/21435416/matt-patricia-tone-deaf-response-detroit-lions-4th-quarter-malcolm-butler
  12. Right? I was thinking the same thing! I was in awe of some of the throws he was making in that game and thought to myself, because my wife really doesn't care, that he's be considered a decent NFL QB That never one anything. BUT, that's mainly because he played in Detroit. The Fords and McCaskey's are NFL royalty who are completely incompetent. Virginia Halas marrying a McCaskey is probably the worst thing that's ever happened to the Bears. She had to fire her own son as President of the Bears in 1998. F'n McCaskeys...
  13. That's right. He made sure to bring that play up, referred to it has being part of one of the greatest NFL plays in the history of game, when questioned by Detroit media for another late game collapse.
  14. Haha...Thankfully Matt Patricia has no business being an NFL Head Coach. I don't care how many DB's you're missing, you don't switch to man coverage in the 4th when Mitch can't figure out your zone. I was on the verge of thinking we were about to see Foles in the 4th Quarter and the Lions switched to a defensive strategy that actually benefits Mitch. Bear Down!
  15. Makes sense. Looking at this boundary map, the school is pretty far north of the portion of their district that extends into the city of Evansville. Do students in the EVSC get to pick their HS? How easy is it for a kid in North's district to attend Central, Reitz, etc.?
  16. Yep, many people don't realize this or that every single Division 1/FBS claimed National Title is just mythical in the eyes of the NCAA. The NCAA even recognizes UCF's claim as National Champion in 2017.
  17. No dice. Portillo’s and Giordanos have entered the Indy market. CN would need to go No further than the Greenwood/Indy border for a Portillos. Throw some Koney King in to seal the deal. Maybe play at Chesterton and throw in George’s Original Gyro’s.
  18. Ha! Or, in the case of 6A, the dwarf brother in size compared to Central Indiana schools. Unless, you're talking about Lake Central, who only cares about soccer and baseball and fields a football team out of necessity.
  19. 2. No. Can't compete in all sports. 3. Good questions. It feels like Griffith has lost their identity. Maybe Hammond has swallowed Griffith and Griffith is more like an extension of Hammond and no longer the Griffith we once new. The last time I saw Griffith play was when they rolled into Arcadia with caravans of cars and buses emblazoned in "Bad To The Bone" messages and they took Hamilton Heights to the woodshed for a Regional Title. Maybe Russ saw the writing on the wall when he bolted for New Prairie. That program went from being a finely tuned Russ Radtke machine to just another Highland, Hammond Gavit, etc. 6. Yes, I would still like to seem them play at least one of their rivalry games with Hobart/Andrean; however, I feel they need to test themselves against a Central Indiana team at least once a season. Merrillville appears to be one of the few Northwest Indiana teams still taking football seriously. They don't want to wait until they run into a Fort Wayne or Hamilton County team in Semi-State to see the weaknesses Duneland teams can't expose. 7. No. it's football. Baseball is king in Crown Point. I think we'll see a resurgence at Portage before Crown Point is a Duneland contender again. 8. Lake Central is a baseball first school and Michigan City will always have better raw talent than Munster. IMO, he would be crazy to leave for either unless it's strictly a financial decision and the money is right. We always speculate whether Central Indiana teams reach out to him. What about Penn? Would Penn be better off with him? Personally, I would take Penn over any job in Northwest Indiana. 9. Hoffman won 6 Regionals and 2 Semi-States. Though he did have a lot of lean years in the middle of his tenure. Marshall still has ways to go and time will tell if he just benefited greatly from an extremely talented wave of players to come through the system. Similiar to Hoffman, Marshall isn't catching any breaks at chasing a Title. Hoffman faced Jeff George in '85 and James Banks in '01. Marshall drew Charlie Spegal last year and this year he's facing Covid 19 and the potential of a historically great Cathedral team. 12. My initial though is similar to #2. But, maybe you're on to something if it's limited to basketball and football. Not sure how the schools would fair in track, soccer, softball and baseball. It definately would benefit any Northwest Indiana Conference to have Hammond Central and East Chicago basketball in the mix.
  20. Agree completely! It's one reason I've never understood why newspapers put up pay walls. I would think The Northwest Indiana Times and Indy Star could drastically increase ad revenue by not restricting the amount of traffic their sites get. This reminds me of watching Indiana and Purdue basketball games on WYIN Channel 56 when I was a kid in Portage. If I recall correctly, Joe Arredondo was always leading the Saturday afternoon pledge drives during commercials. If you are who I think you are, the show you did with Mark on Thursday nights was a pleasure to watch when I was in Middle School and High School. I graduated from Portage in '97.
  21. Thanks. I always assumed Roselawn fed into KV. Does Lowell's district extend all the way down to the Kankakee River?
  22. Not Bobref, but I watched there entire game against Penn and bits and pieces of the LaPorte game. Based on that sample size, they're pretty similar to last year. Monster lines on both sides of the ball, a defense that's really hard to move the ball against, and an offense that's not very flashy. Against Penn, they played without 2 starters on the OL, one of which is a big Western Michigan commit. They also played the entire 2nd half without the transfer QB from Jeff (Grimes.) I don't think he played against LaPorte either. All I read is he had a leg injury in the 1st half against Penn. Not sure if it's the same leg he injured last year. They returned their leading rusher from last year (Burbee) and have another solid RB in Vinyard. They lost their top 2 WR's from last year. The passing game has been weak. Not sure if it's due to breaking in new WR's or not having Grimes behind Center. I would probably rate the North currently as: 1. Dwenger 2. Valpo (Repeating is tough. Could come down to which team makes the long trip on Route 30) 3. North (Great offensive talent, a holding penalty waiting to happen, not a defense I would want to rely on in the playoffs) 4. Harrison (wildcard, IMO) 5. tie between Northrop and Michigan City I hate to be that guy, but at this point I'm expecting Cathedral to lay a beat-down on whomever makes it out of the North. Cathedral vs. Brownsburg or a rematch with Center Grove in the 6A playoffs would have likely been more appealing to watch.
  23. Not sure I like that decision. Carroll throws the deep ball for their 8th TD pass with just 3 minutes left. Carroll up 76-48
  24. Carroll 55 North Side 48 early 4th. North Side with some serious talent on offense. The QB Duce Taylor has a Power 5 Conference arm. A 6’3 Freshmen is emerging. Carroll’s Junior QB is abusing North’s secondary. Now 62-48 Carroll. I would some this up as phenomenal offensive talent on both sides and secondaries on both sides that are completely lost.
  25. I believe Roselawn is also in the Kankakee Valley district. Home of the infamous Ponderosa Sun Club.
