  1. That's just insane. Yesterday's Sags had Mater Dei 4+ points better than Linton in the ratings plus the 1.45 for home field. So I rounded it up to 7 points. I see now that Harrell has it 28 - 24 for the Miners...….as if Mater Dei needs any motivation. LOL But the Sags have changed this morning. I still say there is no way MD is the underdog no matter what the numbers say. Looking forward to a great ball game. No matter what, the winner is going to earn it.
  2. Take a look at sectional 25 and then ask that question again.
  3. Week one has come and gone. Don't think there were really any surprises in round one unless you picked Tell City and that was kind of a toss up game. The final score sort of reflected that even though it was a shutout for Forrest Park (9 - 0 ) The other 3 games showed the winners all scoring 50+ points. Given who the four remaining teams are, these games look about as evenly matched as you could have asked for in terms of records and ratings/polls. Forest Park @ North Knox: Haven't seen a prediction on this game yet but looking at the Sags you would think the Warriors will be the favorite. FP has a slightly better SOS but NK is at home. The Warriors did give up 21 points to SS but maybe they had a big lead and some of that was during JV time. I like the Warriors in a close contest. Linton @ Mater Dei: This is the one a lot of people wanted to see for the final but the draw doesn't know that. Both teams are coming off round one blowout wins. Both programs are no strangers to big games and Thanksgiving weekend dates. No doubt that Mater Dei has the better SOS. Linton has beefed up their schedule to help with games such as this, but will it be enough? There is no doubt that MD will be the best team that Linton will have faced all year.. According to this week's sags, MD will be the favorite coming in. Something like around 7 points. The Miners are 0 fer against the likes of Ritter, Scecina, and LCC. Will Mater Dei join that list? My heart says Miners but my head says Mater Dei wins and moves on and will represent the 2A South.
  4. Indian Creek was something like a 20 point favorite (according to the Sags). So West Vigo winning was kind of a head scratcher.
  5. Wow, what a finish. One of those memories that will last a lifetime for those kids.
  6. Final: Vincennes Lincoln 21 Sullivan 20 Thought this would be a close game. Can't get much closer than 1 point. Must have been one heck of a game!
  7. The Miners defense gave up only 88 yards of total offense to North Posey. The halftime score was 34 - 0. We had to wait all of about 30 seconds in the second half to get the running clock. The Miners received the second half kickoff and started at their 20. Cash Howard took the handoff and went 80 yards to the house. Boom! Running clock. I thought North Posey would be a tougher game than Providence, but the Miners are playing their best ball of the season now. Biggest game of the year next week! But if you wanna be the best you have to beat the best. Mater Dei is the best team in sectional 40 if not the entire 2A south.
  8. Final: Linton 51 North Posey 0 Linton received the second half kickoff which went into the end zone First play from scrimmage ( at the 20) Cash Howard goes 80 yards to the house and the running clock starts with less than a minute into the second half.
  9. Yes we've all seen that happen. The one thing about Day is he's been with Meyer for a while so the players know Day and he knows the players. I haven't seen if Wilson is the offensive coordinator or not but somebody is calling some good game plans for the Buckeyes. I seriously doubt Day will fall into that "one hit wonder" category. It isn't that he's that much better than other first year coaches, it just the situation he's in is so much better than others. I believe he'll do just fine after this year and beyond.
  10. Ohio State "down" in 2022? That's blasphemy! LOL As long as Day stays put, they won't be down for a long, long time. He'll get the recruits and keep the train rolling down the tracks and blast past 2022. If the Buckeyes make the playoffs this year, that alone will help the recruiting. If they win it? Look out! I don't see Day jetting to the NFL any time soon. It's only his first year as a college head coach. The NFL is a business. I believe there aren't any owners who are going to want a one year wonder running their "business". Besides, it's in Day's best interest to build up a resume first. Then he'll have more bargaining power if he chooses to jump to the NFL.
  11. Saw this matchup when I was looking through all of the sectionals. I feel it is one of the best first round matchups in 3A. I know there are other good first round matches but this one intrigued me. VL does have the better SOS and as was mentioned they've both beaten one common opponent. I'd really hate to have to pick a winner. I think the game will be close and should be a dandy. The Miners did beat the Arrows earlier in the season. I think the Arrows don't have as much talent this year as they've had in recent years, but that is just going off of their game against Linton. Don't know much about VL other than score watching. I know each team only put up 2 scores on North Knox (common opponent) if that tells you anything. It's getting kind of late in the day but if Miner Pride were around the board, I'm sure he could give you some stat info Best of luck to both teams and stay healthy!
  12. Maybe we'll be privileged to see another one this year! That's what I love about High School Football. You just never know. Another thing I love is the support that some of these teams receive from their communities. It is especially that way at the smaller schools (more so 1A and 2A). When Linton played for the state title the second time, I believe the attendance was about 3,000. When you consider that's about 60% of the town's population, that's incredible support. I know it may not matter to the bigger schools in the bigger towns, but think about an Indy team getting 60% of Indianapolis's population there! They all couldn't fit in the stadium! And yes I know there are a LOT of schools in Indy but you get what I'm sayin. AND I love all of these stories and especially those from the officials. We never get to hear things from their perspective. Thank you gentlemen for sharing!
  13. I see. Too many schools in Evansville to keep track of! LOL And now 2 of them with practically the same name? I REALLY need "help" now. And thanks for that clarification.
  14. Not everyone is in a conference. What about the independents?
  15. It's always about the Benjamins these days, isn't it? Whoever has the most toys, wins. That is why I want the B1G to grab onto a couple more big time programs. That would give the conference a couple more "toys" for the playoffs at the end of the season.
  16. LOL Yeah JP was "one in a million". I used to laugh at some of the things he would say. And yes, he did have a LOT of field knowledge. Kind words or not, just telling it like it is, brother. LOL @ delay switch. I can only imagine! Have a good broadcast tonight! By the way, I finished my radiation treatments last Thursday. Tumor has shrunk by 80%! Hoping to hear in a couple of weeks that I am back in remission again. Safe travels.
  17. The Buckeyes have heard that almost since Franklin took over (going to close the gap, closing the gap). If/when Penn State starts winning the B1G championship and plays in the CFP, then maybe we can talk about those Lions from State Park. They have been finishing in the top of the conference, but I want to see them in the playoffs. Until then, they are just another team in the B1G who gets to go bowling every year. I seriously doubt that Day is going to leave after just one season. He's a great coach but hasn't even finished one year yet. I believe it's his job as long as he wants to stay. Besides, he's quite young (for a head coach).
  18. I was thinking about that. Back in the day the service academies were top football programs, at least the Army and the Navy were. I think it was because back then the service academies had better athletes. They were physically trained and better conditioned and could hang with anyone in the country. The other schools weren't as conditioned or as physically fit as the academies were. Now EVERYONE has weight rooms, training rooms/staffs, etc. I think it's one reason that there is a big gap now. You will see a class once in a while do well, but overall they aren't as dominant as back in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Then again, I could be totally off base with my assessment.
  19. Why didn't they just send them a big box of pacifiers in stead? LOL Sorry the thought just struck me funny. I know the conference liked getting that East Coast money for the TV market. Helps add to the B1G treasure chest.
  20. Thanks for the info. Yeah no room for parking would be a sticky issue. How does that work? How does tax payer's money fund a private school's football field? Not being a jerk I honestly don't know.
  21. Yeah I remember those days: JP and you. Loved his "bone crusher" award he would give out at the end of games. Darren is really good at play by play. He is good at football AND basketball. The two of you work well together. Friday nights aren't the same without the "team" on the airwaves doing Miner Football.
  22. Screw all of that other stuff! We're talking football here, Gipper. LOL
  23. Don't remember what they were called or even who they played that night and can't even remember it it's on the plaque. LOL Just thought it was cool that little Jasonville had that distinction. Miner Pride - PLEASE tell me that Darren is doing the game tonight! Last week was rather weak.. Whoever was sitting in for Darren wasn't giving down and distance after a play was over. Was hard to keep track of what was going on. LOL
