  1. People willing to help us get tickets to the games and of course winning the 5A State Championship were the highlights for me.
  2. I forgot to mention the amazing leadership of Coach Peebles and his staff! It was a difficult season to begin with, but they put together a team that was sure fun to watch!
  3. Cathedral was blessed to have few injuries this year, no significant losses for multiple games. I would hate to think what the Irish would do without Nate. He was the onfield leader of the team. The Irish would have been a good team but not as good without him.
  4. Nate was the heart and soul of this year's Irish team. There's no debating this. It's too bad he only had one year to show his talents and leadership. That being said I'd almost bet the farm that Steele gets the honor.
  5. It was an outstanding season for the Irish! I was lucky enough to attend 10 of the 14 games and for that I would like to thank a lot of people, some of those hang out around here. I was also lucky enough to see those other games on tv or a live stream. Zionsville was the best offensive team the Irish played this season. They shredded a very good Irish defense. They seemed to be able to find the open spaces and their QB was able to get the ball to those open receivers. I was on edge until Gomez put that FG through he uprights. They were scary good. The Irish however were able to respond offensively in the second half. I can see that it would be an entertaining game to watch for a neutral fan, but for most Irish fans it was a bit nerve wracking. One of the reasons the Irish had a successful season was the number of turnovers this season. Now I'm working from memory, but I believe the Irish lost only two fumbles all season and threw only five interceptions. IMO, that's amazing considering the type of schedule they played this season. They also beat two state champions, Cincinnati St. X and Bishop Chatard and came within 16.4 seconds of beting 6A champion Center Grove. The also played another state finalist, Westfield, in the regular season. I was also lucky enough to see the 1963 and 1996 Irish teams play and this one was right up there with these two. It's interesting that the 3 were in different eras. I would say that overall this Irish team may have the edge in strength of schedule. It would be tough for me to pick one of these as the best of all times, but it's an honor for this group to be mentioned with those two great Irish teams. I hope that this pandemic is past when next season comes around and I hope I'm still able to attend all the games. At my age you just never know what the future will be, so I'm just going to enjoy being a fan, and an alum, of the 5A State Champs! Never forget NUMBER TWO!
  6. This is a great read: IHSAA football state finals: Cathedral honors Mario McCullough with 5A title (indystar.com) Hats off to Zionsville! More later when I try to wake up. I hope I don't fall asleep in Church.
  7. You should know the feeling.😉
  8. Well I don't have any bias. That '63 team was tough! What's your grandfather's name, I graduated in '61.
  9. One more game! One more worthy opponent! It ain't over 'til it's over! GO IRISH!!!!!!!!
  10. Westfield improved immensely since I saw them play in week one. Center Grove's tall three man defensive line made it really difficult for opposing QB's. They just didn't have any weaknesses on either side of the ball. Thanks. It's really a subjective subject and hard to actually argue. GOAT is always up to the individual.
  11. Well, I've seen a lot of Cathedral teams play in the past 65 years and this year's team certainly deserves consideration. The 1996 undefeated team and the 1963 team would be in the conversation with this year's team in my estimation. The 1963 team allowed only 18 points the entire season, and 12 of those were in one game.
  12. Bishop Chatard and Cathedral have a lot of business to finish off today. Don 't get on board the bus until it gets to the station.
  13. I'm not sure it's Cathedral's best team ever, but it would be in the top three for sure!
  14. Cathedral played at Center Grove, and the Trojans are extremely hard to beat at home.
  15. And outstanding facilities! Westfield lost their first game of the season to Cathedral and the last game of their season to Center Grove, the best team in the state of Indiana. Congrats to both!
  16. The Irish had a lackluster first half and a better second half, especially defensively, in their win over North Carolina. They need to play better overall if they do make it to the CFB playoffs. Book's back handed flip to freshman TE Mayer was one for the books!
  17. So illegal participation doesn't really matter in your scenario, is that what you're saying?
  18. I have no dog in the fight either and I agree with you!
  19. The schedule was unrealistic to begin with is what I'm getting at and that's because of COVID.
  20. So the rule must have changed. If the receiver steps out of bounds he should be an ineligible receiver.
  21. I will make you a wagerless bet that the next game won't start before the fans are seated! It's the biggest game of the year, and they can't start early just for TV's sake.
  22. How can you start a game before the fans enter and are seated? Why allow fans if that's the case?
  23. No, contact didn't make the receiver step out, receiver stepped out before the contact.
