  1. I think this will be the most competitive year to date since the HNAC was formed in 2015. Pioneer loses a ton to graduation, so how they rebuild will be key.

On offense, they will need to replace both guards, 1 tackle and both Lewellens at wingbacks. On defense, they will need to replace 2 defensive lineman, 1 OLB, 1 ILB and both Lewellen's at db. Ezra and Addai also returned most kicks for the Panthers.

Brock Robinson will need to take on a larger role in the offense as Caden Hill continues to develop at QB.

This is ridiculous. Steele would be a force anywhere. When he was out last year with an injury the young Trojans struggled offensively. Then we he got healthy they got going. There is a reason no linemen win the Heisman or NFL MVP. Get a clue.

It’s an award for the best player. Not a popularity contest. If mr Steele was the best player in the state surely his collegiate offers would match that namesake.

Don't know about permanent expulsion, but definitely a lengthy suspension.

I'm also all for charges being pressed, but is there a way to insulate the ref from "being the bad guy" and "ruining the kid's life?"  Because you know that's how it's going to be framed.  Can the school file charges on behalf of the ref?  That way, it's not the ref having to be the "bad guy," but the accountability for proceedings being initiated and carried out closer to the person who caused the action as opposed to the victim?  I get this kind of stuff when I catch a kid cheating ... somehow it's my fault and I'm ruining his life by giving him a zero on the exam.

I phrased that poorly. I did mean suspension.

Ouch!  McCutcheon and Anderson lost to Harrison by a combined 84-14 this season ... McCutcheon was shutout.  Kokomo didn't play due to KOVID, but was KO'd by McCutcheon 24-7 in the first round of sectionals.  Not sure Cathedral plays those two games of sectionals, but it should be lots of opportunity for non-starters to get playing time in tourney play.

This will almost all but assure that LCC or Pioneer or both would likely be back in 1A in the 2023 cycle.  If IHSAA were smart, they'd find a way to put them in different regions to give potential that they both stay up in 2A.

I just broke it out geographically, but we all know that doesn't always matter.

We have approx 420 high schools in Indiana, and 100 have chosen not to play football.  Perhaps Attucks is at that crossroads where extreme low participation, general overall lack of interest and support, and consistently dismal on field results combine to force the shutdown of the program.  We have a general approach around here that focuses on the few kids who might lose the opportunity to play.  What we dont focus on is the new opportunities that football dollars reallocated will open up for many others.

If Attucks has any "football players," they have the opportunity to go to Tech.  Kids travel from 30 miles plus out to get to Roncalli.  Im sure a commute a few miles across town is feasible for those at Attucks who wish to continue their grid careers.

Had Covid not happened Attucks would have had more players. With virtual learning going there were several kids that did not have access ( transportation ) to school.

In 2019, they won a section game and finished the season at 7-3. If I’m not mistaken they had 40-50 kids on last years roster as well.

  7. My biggest question is how a kid gets any kind of mvp award for a conference when their team doesn’t even win a conference game. I’m not saying sam isn’t a good player but surely there was a more deserving player from any of the teams that had conference wins. We faced solid defensive players across the board from Laville, Judson etc.

When a team is on defense for the majority of most games of course their stats will be inflated. I just think the team wins should be taken into account.

my question is... did the Pioneer OL who left the game when the Panthers were dominating..also a starter on D?  What  changed to see Luers suddenly put up so many points... and what changes the Luers make d-wise to suddenly stop that offense?  Pioneer is really a 1A school..as we all know... it's tough  to lose a 2-way starter.. not to mention already being short a big player on both sides of the ball.  My Congrats to what they have accomplished!

Pioneer Olineman that got hurt was one of the teams leading tacklers on defense at middle linebacker and was also the teams punter. Had to move one of our better cover guys from OLB to ILB to compensate and one of our dlinemen to olb, who then cramped up in the third quarter and couldn't go back in. No excuses from our side. Luers came out in the second half playing to win and it seemed like we came out playing to not lose.

You can say that at a big school, where coaching and developing 100 potential players matters. It’s much different at 1A where you either luck into a good gene pool or not.

I coach at 2a Pioneer. 1a enrollment school bumped up to 2a from success factor. I am well aware of the struggles that come with playing/ coaching at a small school.

You will hear no one from our staff complain about our position in 2a. We played “above our weight” winning a sectional and beating a very good Andrean team. We just ran out of bodies and gas against a very good Luers team.

Saying that coaching and development only matters at large schools is an ignorant statement.

  10. This is such bs.

Man up and play the team in front of you. If you’re not competitive, get better. If a coach isn’t getting the job done, hold him accountable.

Winning a state championship isn’t in the cards for some teams and it isn’t supposed to be, that’s what makes it special. Regardless if you are a public or private school you still have to put in the 17 weeks of work to get there and not have a bad week or half that gets you booted.

This comes down to whichever Luers defense shows up on Friday.  Offensively Luers should do fine, defensively I’m a little worried.  Hoping for a great game and would love another Luers state game, but just taking it one week at a time.

I'd have to agree, I just don't see any way the Panthers can contain this high flying Luers offense. If you look at what Luers has been doing to all of the 2A teams they've faced, I'd say they are the clear favorite.
