It’s championship week and it’s time to crown a winner in Sectiona 41. Culver comes in with their ground and pound running on all cylinders. North Judson is rolling after ending Winamac’s perfect season. Only one can be crowned champ. So, who ya got?
Culver @ North Judson
Judson by 2-3 scores. Fully expect Judson in semistate versus Adams Central.

They may play but how effective will they be??

If they did not move the game last week with a steady rain on game day, they shouldn't be moving the game this week with no rain forecasted.
I'm fine with that. I would expect playing on turf would benefit LaVille more than Pioneer at this point.

Any talk of this game being moved due to field conditions or will we be mudding it again this week?

Wow!
After reading the internet, both Bremen and LaVille had 100-yard rushers. I would have never though that would happen considering the rain that slowed the track at LaVille.
There were probably more turf monster tackles due to the soggy conditions than there were clean jerseys by the end of the night!
Game was as advertised between Breme and LaVille . . . low-scoring, especially due to the weather. LaVille's defense kept its sixth opponent to one score or less.
Was a bit surprised that LaVille took the opening kick right down the field. Seemed like the Lancers came out ready to play and Bremen was hesitant out of the game.
Read on the internet in some article that Bremen had 4 total yards from scrimmage in the first half. Course turnovers didn't do Bremen any favors.
Was impressed with the DeWitt kid from LaVille and the Moser kid from Bremen. Both run hard and can break away for big runs.
This game was won in the trenches. LaVille outplayed Bremen on both lines.
Now LaVille has to get over the stigma of The Almighty Pioneer.
It was a good game back in September. Pioneer was not at 100% then, but that is different now.
I would also mention that LaVille is different now as well.
This will be a low-scoring game and may come down to special teams, especially if Pioneer continues to go for two-points after any touchdowns scored.
Kicking game edge to LaVille.
as always, the game is better

FB Robinson is out and DL/TE Derrick Legrand is questionable, but next man up.

No.
Last night was really the perfect storm.
The field conditions benefited North Judson greatly. North Judson doesn't have much team speed besides #40. They aren't too big up front either and they really like to run behind their center Brennen Benson with QB or their TB. A power football team where as Winamac relied this year more on speed, misdirection, pulling lineman, getting outside and throwing a little bit. The field conditions didn't allow Winamac to get any type of footing to play their style, any time a team went to the outside it was negative yardage.
The score was 0-6 after one, 13-13 late in first half then a pick six to make it 13-20. Winamac kicked off to start 2nd half, got a stop then turned it over. North Judson's next possession on a 4th down they scored from 24 yards out. Winamac then got the ball back, turned it over late in 3rd and North Judson scored on a 22 yard seam pass and then 4 penalties in a row aided their last TD w 3 seconds to go. 5 TO's also hurt Winamac.
It wasn't really lopsided until late 3rd and all of the 4th.
If AC or SA play Judson on turf or a good field. Judson will struggle w their speed.
Winamac relied on playing a weak schedule to be where they were at. They ducked Judson the first go around and opted not to play when LaVille dropped. They need to get the MWC cellar dwellers off their schedule and beef it up. I hear the class of 2028 is looking promising for them though.

Curious if LaVille wins if they elect to play on their home field next week if it gets thrashed in the recent weather.

Interesting that they replaced an entire scoreboard without also replacing the old scoreboards malfunctioning controls. And please expound on this 'liberal agenda' you claim the school superintendent is pushing.
Controls and scoreboard are new, but the connection is digital, if there is not a direct line of site between controls and board it goes out. There is equipment that can be purchased to limit the disruption it just has not been purchased. I'm not going into details on here on his politics and should have refrained from the comment.

Probably more important uses for taxpayer funds that fixing a scoreboard. And why don't the wealthy farmers around Royal Center pony up some $ for improvements?
Scoreboard is brand new last year and completely donated by the local bank. The superintendent is more interested in pushing his liberal agenda than taking care of the facilities we have. The school has been approached by the county community foundation (over 2 years ago I believe) about financially helping with bleacher replacement , but yet again the ball has been dropped and the can kicked down the road.

To be honest, Winamac's kids are battle tested. Bentle, Perry and Good didn't play football last year. Holehan and Klingerman.. Didn't play football at winamac last season but Winamac has four kids that have started for 4 seasons+ the kicker and four more kids with 3 years of varsity starting. Seymour, Brown, Bell, Pratt, Heater, Jones and Bucinski are in their 2nd year of varsity.
They played LaVille, North Judson twice last season and LCC. Covid took the Pioneer game from being what it should have been and eliminated both LaVille and Judson games.
Winamac shouldn't be a mystery to any HNAC squad. They are a well coached team that's physical, has size up front and some quick skilled guys with Russell Compton leading the way.
I'd disagree with the statement that this year's Winamac team is battle tested. I think current year experience is more important that total career experience with how much things change from season to season. I just don't think Winamac has played any valid opponents this season to date. I think Winamac did luck out with Judson not playing last week. Yes Judson got to rest up, but missing a week of live action can make you rusty quick.

@WCGrad92I rest my case. I knew he wouldn't disappoint.
Tonight's game was moved likely because the field got pounded for 2 Friday nights and weeks of rainy weather. I would bet even the grounds crew couldn't get out on it to do any work because of the weeks of saturation. I am not Cathedral administration so I have no dog in the mix. I will say I highly doubt there was any more gamesmanship for the CG game than there was for Penn, Chatard, Hammond Morton, or TH North. If they hadn't played those other games there this year or last I would totally agree with you. That's is why I even brought up Pioneer (during the Jack Kiser) era. If I remember correctly they moved a late post season game to a turf field because their field had got into bad shape after some back to back games on a grass field dealing with rain.
On to other things. When talking about Neutral sites I would be curious what criteria some would want for Neutral sites. There are some nice D2 and D3 fields. However the problem I see is many of them have large home side bleachers, but visitor bleachers are not very big (and they don't need to be because very rarely are they filled up by opposing teams they play that travel from out of state). You have the D1 colleges that are pretty big. Would there be certain High School you could use. I like the Neutral site idea just wanting to get some ideas.
Pioneer moved semistate games in 2017 and 2018 due to poor field conditions as well as press box space for the various media groups present for radio and online broadcasts.
Pioneer's field is an embarrassment in the best of conditions let alone after downpours. The home bleachers are a safety hazard and if the scoreboard controls aren't positioned right it loses connection to the scoreboard and shuts it off in the middle of the game. Unfortunately, the admin doesn't care enough to enact any kind of change to the stadium.
We are lucky to have a great relationship with Logansport and their athletic director Brian Strong. We will be playing at Logansport again tonight in our sectional semifinal game against Delphi. Logansport is a good midway point between both Pioneer and Delphi. It's just unfortunate that with Pioneer's history we don't even have the internal support to take care of our field to ensure player safety.

Eerily quiet, where are the Winamac and NJ fans??
There’s only one Winamac fan on here and Judson won’t be on unless they win 😂
Judson will be pretty quiet again next week if Coach Lambert only gives Allen the ball 10 times again….

Delphi (7-3) at Pioneer (8-2)- Panthers- Panthers have been playing well the last few weeks and if they come out like they did against Judson and Wabash they should win by 2-3 scores. Delphi will be ready to play and #54 and 45 for the run extremely hard. This game was just moved to Logansport high school due to expected poor field conditions at Pioneer.
Bremen (7-3) at LaVille (7-2)- LaVille- I think LaVille's defense pushes them over the top.

Kudos to Coach Zehner and Culver. They were well prepared and exactly what we thought they were. We do not see a lot of power running football teams on our schedule like that. Starting 5 Freshman on Defense opened their eyes. I wouldn't change it for the world. Coming from not winning a game in 4 years to finishing 5-5. That is a solid year especially missing our QB in 2 games.
I knew we had to play near perfect on offense to keep close. And we did not play perfect, but we kept it respectable. Good luck to Culver this week. I expect them to win.
Congrats on a great season! You guys have to be excited for the future with as many young guys you played.

Lewis Cass at Delphi- Cass- I think the hoosier will prep them more than Delphi's moribund schedule
Wabash at Pioneer- Panthers- Pioneer has really hit their stride after figuring out the qb situation and getting everyone back.
Bremen at Manchester- Bremen- Lions prove too much for Manchester
LaVille at Rochester- LaVille- I think LaVille's defense keeps Rochester in check with the caveat that Laville's offense needs to score more than 10 points to win.

Question for the Judson fans-
Why did Allen only touch the ball 10 times against Pioneer and why isn't he playing fullback? When they play Winamac he better get at least 20 touches if they want to win. He was by far their best offensive weapon

Really going out on the limb there with those 2A North private schools with 5A talent. No private schools should be playing in 1A or 2A.
I personally could care less if private schools are in 1 or 2A. It goes by enrollment, get better and beat them or complain and keep losing. If your team goes in with the mindset that its unfair that they are playing a private school odds are they're going to lose. The thing that does perplex me if you are a team like Andrean or Luers and you only play 4,5 and 6A schools all regular season, why do you even want to be in the 2A tournament?

Culver @ LaVille- Lancers- Lancer offense will need to eek out some points on the few possessions they get on the night. Culver doesn't do anything special, but they run their 6 play offense pretty well. Any body have any insight as to why they run the world's most boring offense?
Knox @ Caston- The Knox High School Football Team- Caston is flat out bad.
North Judson @ Pioneer- Panthers- Conference matchup of the week. I was pretty impressed with Judson after watching the LaVille game from last week. They are very physical up front and their backs run hard. Weather could be a factor this week that might limit their passing attack and make the mesh points tricky on their triple. If Pioneer can take care of the ball on offense, I like their chances. No matter who comes out on top I don't see it by more than 10 points.
Triton @ Winamac- Winamac- Triton has the pieces to win this game but I think they're a year or 2 out. Unsure how good Winamac truly is as this point.

I didn't see it, but it appears the Triton managers forgot to load the defense on the bus last night! 😃
Definitely surprised by last nights score after playing both teams over the last 2 weeks. I thought Triton would run all over Knox.

I say after this season, all teams bump back to their enrollment class and success factor resets for the next cycle. I will say that my opinion doesn't count for much though 🙂
