  1. I find myself wondering who, what, or why schools, towns, streets, etc. should actually derive their names from?
  2. I posted this somewhere else, but prior to Covid a student-athlete was able to participate (practice and play) so long as they satisfied the school district's requirement for attendance for e-learning. Essentially, the student has to complete any assignment, participate in any activity/meeting teachers may require, and/or complete any alternative assignment deemed necessary by the he classroom teacher and approved by the school.
  3. Unless I misread the top of the article, "postpones" would be a better word than "cancels." Doesn't two of the options involve moving the season to a different part of the year?
  4. Vanity thy name is... And to the poster who mentioned South Vermilion in the WRC, they just rejoined the conference a few years ago after about a 20 year stint in the WCC. I can't speak to their success in that conference, but I know they had quite a bit of coaching turnover there for a bit until Barrett took over. Since then they've been really pretty solid; I think two (maybe three) years ago they were co-champions with Fountain Central and played Danville pretty tough in the tournament that year.
  5. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox35orlando.com/news/fox-35-investigates-florida-department-of-health-says-some-labs-have-not-reported-negative-covid-19-results.amp Toward the bottom is a PDF with some data. I haven't looked through it all, but an educated guess would say that the chart posted here is in there somewhere. Apologies if this is the wrong link.
  6. Guys, if we are bringing honest there is next to zero chance of having a viable vaccine by this coming spring. If we play football at all this school year, we play with the spectre of Covid. Period. @oldunclemark, I completely understand your premise and kind of figured that your primary exposure had been with larger schools. I get it, but the fact of the matter is that if you say to small schools that only juniors and seniors can play in the spring of 2021, you have no football at the 1A and 2A level. It just can't happen. No Jr. High ball can be handled, we didn't have a Jr. High team for a bit and we remain competitive at the Varsity level. If bigger schools wanted to limit underclassman participation in the manner you describe, more power to them, but for the IHSAA to mandate that would be... not good...
  7. I've heard all of the above. I've also seen that position called "J-back" for "adjuster back." Now in that specific offense that player was more a crossover between a traditional fullback and a second TE: an adequate blocker in the run game but a solid and steady pass catcher.
  8. I ALWAYS forget about this game every year and I coach against at least 4 teams represented. First of all, congrats to Coach Crabtree and his Gold team for pulling off the win. It would be great to hear about some of the ins and outs of this, it would be very instructive for all moving forward.
  9. Perhaps some good news, depending on your where you stand of course... https://www.mywabashvalley.com/sports/gold-division-wins-wabash-football-all-star-game/ Did anybody on here go to/coach in the game?
  10. At this point, sadly, there are no more "facts" as the term has been colloquially used in the past. For every "fact" that one side brings up, the other has a differing "fact." We should "pay attention to the science" but only the "science" that suits our "facts" not the other fellow's. It's intellectually tiring, and, quite frankly, it's only going to get worse...
  11. Eh, anybody on this board can have the last word as I'm concerned because none of this matters anyway in terms of what is going on in the world today.
  12. Good deal, glad I can bring a smile to your face...
  13. In the past, that is, prior to Covid, if a school had a pre-planned e-Learning day, they were still allowed to hold practices and competitions so long as the student-athlete met the school's standard for participation in that e-Learning day.
  14. Not that it matters, because doesn't , but since I'm pretty sure this thread is dead anyway, I just have to point out that I think @Coach Nowlin would dispute this claim... Second place is still pretty good though... Carry on...
  15. Did anyone else notice the words "suspended" and "postponed" in point #5 above? That doesn't read like a cancellation to me, but damn close to it. It's a subtle difference I'll grant you, but it would seem that there may be some "hope" yet?
  16. All well and good, but you initial point that it would just be this years current Junior class that gets "double hit" is still incorrect. Even accepting your premise that JV and Freshman games would not be allowed, which I still find hard to believe that they wouldn't, those freshmen and sophomores will still practice and will still see in some cases significant Varsity playing time at the 1A, 2A, and 3A levels. Freshmen maybe less depending on roster size, but still, even with your suggestion there are still at least 3 classes, freshmen through juniors, who would play in the Spring and Fall of 2021.
  17. Seriously, another one of thes topics? I know we all miss sports in general and are anxious to find out what's gonna happen, but these "should we go back on time" topics have proven time and again to be counter productive. No disrespect to the initial poster here (looking at you @Football Guru 25) but come on...
  18. I'm not entirely sure, but this is a great question. May be best answered by looking at what the last sport the IHSAA added.
  19. This is only true at your bigger schools. Most 1A, 2A, and 3A schools carry freshmen through seniors on their varsity rosters. Also, to think that most staffs aren't going to fight for at least JV games (even if only a couple) is fantasy. Those reps are seen by most small schools as crucial (and they are). You would even see a push for a Jr. H8gh season in most cases.
  20. Still one heckuva thing to go through. Think about it, even if you play a 6 game spring season before starting the tournament and then held a normal season in the fall, at minimum that's 17 games in what, roughly 9 months? If you play 2 full seasons that would be a minimum of 20 games in 9 months? If you play even a shortened season in the spring of 2021 you about have to play a shortened fall season in 2021.
  21. That's what I said when this was brought up before. To my mind, that "grind" would be worse for high school age student-athletes than the threat posed to them by Covid. And I get it, the fear surrounding Covid isn't necessarily just the student-athletes, but still...
  22. I see that now... every lineman's dream... except for us centers, we're pretty much out of luck unless you have some wacky unbalanced stuff floating out there.
  23. As with any other conflict, both sides shared in a little of the blame...
  24. Now at least I know where to set the number on the next topic of this kind...
