I read or saw the theory somewhere @Bash Riprock that Irsay is merely looking for a bluntly honest assessment of where the organization stands and feels that Saturday gives him the best chance at that. Not sure I buy it, but that was an interesting thought at the very least. It does seem odd that, according to reports, Saturday was not interested in coaching the O-line as recent as 2019 but now suddenly takes the head job, albeit on an interim basis. That makes me at least consider the idea of him as merely a "fly on the wall" for Irsay, but I also think it is more of a PR stunt than anything else by an owner who knows he is going to start from scratch this offseason with his coaching staff at the very least, if not the front office. At this point, there are only two conceivable outcomes: either A) Saturday provides a fresh voice and sparks some life into this roster or B) Saturday's hire causes toxic division within the coaching staff and locker room and the season tailspins into a death spiral leading to a complete reconfiguration of the front office, coaching staff, and roster. I am hoping against hope for option A, but my gut says we are looking at option B.

Mathematically and logically this is correct... The problem with this "geography hurt the WRC this year" argument ignores the fact that the IHSAA has always used geography. If memory serves correct, they start in one of the northern corners (for some reason I want to say the northwest) and group the Sectionals from there. This is why, for example, there have been years in the past where Sheridan has been in a southern Sectional. It's rare but it does happen, and probably would happen if you started dividing Sectional assignments anywhere but West Central Indiana. The issue is less the IHSAA and geography bit more appropriately the WRC and its geography. I don't know of another conference in the state that has such a relatively tight grouping of 1A schools outside of perhaps a metro area of some kind. That means that any time any of the conference schools end up in a different Sectional it seems odd and out of place, but in reality it's not. What seems to be advocated for here is more of a geographic "cluster" system, which I'm sorry, would be just as problematic as what we have now.

Regardless of whether it is fair or not, there was zero chance that the IHSAA would entertain the possibility of replaying any portion of any game under these circumstances. That would be a terrible precedent that would have unimaginable consequences in the future. Hate it for CP, but there is just no chance this was ever a real possibility.

Point of fact: US 41 does not go through Vermillion County, it goes through Fountain and Parke Counties. 63 goes through Warren and Vermillion Counties. Inconsequential and petty I know, but I am a geography nerd. Carry on...

It all depends on local health department guidelines and the individual situation. For us, if someone displays the "major" symptoms or is in close contact with someone displaying "major" symptoms, they must quarantine for 10 days or until the individual displaying symptoms received a negative test. So a student-athlete could conceivably only miss a couple of days. If someone is or is exposed to a confirmed positive case then they are quarantined for a full 14 days. Essentially, the term "quarantine" does not automatically mean staying home for 2 weeks. And this guidance changed about 2 or 3 weeks ago and could easily change today for all we know.

I seem to remember a crew here and there asking for film so that they can review their performance. It doesn't happen often, but it is certainly not unheard of. If there was something specific a coach wanted a crew to be aware of I don't think that sending film in advance would be out of line.

North Central (Farmersburg) is the only one of those three who definitely qualify as "southern" by geography. RP and NV may fall in "southern sectionals but if you look at a map, they are solidly in the more "central" part of the state. Not that it matters much... carry on...

Your point is certainly valid in theory. I could launch into a full lecture on the topic, but falling asleep while at your computer is probably not ideal. Suffice it to say though that, from the other side, the increase in free livestreaming causes a hit to the traditional notion of supply and demand; i.e. if the price is too high I/we will simply livestream the event. That's not even to discuss the ethics of the situation, but that's enough economics for now.

I don't know about accuracy, but I was talking to a former student and player who is now at Purdue and he said that the spit test cost around $100 and he had to log in somewhere and video himself spitting into the tube to verify that it was actually him who did the spitting.

Interesting tidbit I hadn't noted on the Illinois plan from anything I had read/heard/seen previously; while they have moved their season to the "spring," they will not be contesting a state championship, only the lowest "championship" level of their tournament. His take appears in lockstep with everything that Cox had said prior to his retirement; whether you agree with his/their position or not, I think it best that this presents as seamless a transition as possible.

Fair enough, and kind of what I expected. Still, I'm still going to ask our AT today what his preference would be on having versus not having a parent for each student-athlete accounting for Covid.

Again, I couldn't edit my previous post, but I would be interested to have the take of an AT on this. My hunch would be that they would prefer to have a parent/guarding there in person to explain an injury rather than over the phone. I know plenty of typicaly well meaning, rational parents who would loose all cognition after hearing "your son has sustained an injury" over the phone. If I get the chance, I'll have to ask our AT today at practice what his thoughts would be since I am not sure we have any who are active on the GID (though we may and I just don't know it).

Fair enough, and I've seen this done in an instance or two, but I'm guessing you will see a lot of pushback from parents on this one. Keeping students (student sections that is) out makes sense but banning all parents seems a bit much. If we're compromising here, I would rather allow one or two parents for each student-athlete than four for just my Seniors.
