Donnie Baker Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 And then there was one. Probably not the one most expected. Was there a parade in Clinton? South Putnams at Riverton Parkes. SP has been my pick to win 1A South all year and that hasn’t changed. This will be ugly early and they’ll call off the dogs 1 Quote

Miner_Pride Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 what an atmosphere it was at the ROY. The SV folks definitely showed up. might be the biggest opponent turnout that I've seen locally..... miner D was just on target. Serious pressure on Dom didn't allow him to see his targets...but the DB's for the most part did awesome. 1 blown deal...which resulted in a score. Miner offense couldn't be stopped. Everything that had to happen for Linton to win... happened. SV had short field many times. Red Zone 0-2 21 yards line 0-1... Linton had three 90+ grind it out drives all for points. Definitely the more physical team was in Red. No Question Garzolini could throw... he put a couple right on the hands in crowded situations. He tried to get time in the pocket by moving around. Wallace Weir and Coleman all made great catches. No running game didn't help the Wildcats. Linton's Voigtschild had game of his Miner Career 200+ rush yards. I was also impressed with 25 Shyrock and 59 Higgins on the defensive side. Rough night for Vermillion County.... Congrats to SV on an amazing season....10-1.. best record in history I believe? They can be proud. hurts now ..but they did alot this year and they will be remembered for that for years. 1 Quote

GroundSquirrel Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 WRC Season will end this week. Not hating on RP but SP is a different animal and I don't think the panthers know what will hit them. Congrats to RP though on a great win Friday and claiming redemption. I will have more to say after the season ends but SV and NV had great seasons and RP can maybe show the state something this week. I'm sure the Panthers know exactly what they are getting into on Friday. I've seen South Putnam in person, they're impressive, but not unbeatable. But yet we can hate on SV and NV. Seems like there is a double standard in this chat room and that shouldn't be the case. All these kids are amazing, it what makes 1A small school football AWESOME. Some of these kids have to take of their families or work to help their family. Also go to school, practice and play on Friday Nights. Most kids that play at the 1A level will not play in college and only have these 4 years to play. I'm not saying I'm an angel, I will say I am not the biggest fan of RP, but I respect the rebuild Sanders and his staff has made to make RP contenders and not bottom feeders. I don't understand the hate SV has received this season. NV impressed me this year, I didn't know how Arod would do but the defense was outstanding, but their offense wasn't as explosive but when you graduate two all-state guys in Tryon and White, its expected. Ultimately, I think SP will win Friday and it's no shade at RP but look at the teams SP has played compared to RP. Number one they played Lutheran who is one of the top teams in the state. Their other loss came to North Put who is really good. RP did play Carrol, but Carrol got bounced last week losing 48-7. Those are the facts, and I am not taking anything away from the job Sanders and the Panthers have done this season. Price was as good as I've seen him this season, Goff really came alive when they needed him, and Lil sanders has done a good job at QB. I understand competitiveness but at the end of the day these are kids we are talking about, not professionals. I wish every day I could go back to Friday Nights and play with my guys and brothers I grew up playing with. That is what high school football is about. The WRC is special with all the teams so close, and the rivalries are fun and I understand NV and SV being hyped to play each other or PH and Attica excited to mix it up. Every program in the conference is run well and is unique and I don't think there is anyone here who can argue that. Again, I like NUTS, but I am not. Quote

You mean this schedule? https://scoreboard.homestead.com/football/logsSouthPutnam.htm#load Don't kid yourself. RP would have had the same record against that schedule. South Putnam appears to have hired the same Ad agency as South Vermillion. As far as the Sectional 45 Championship goes. I'm obviously biased towards our last remaining WRC team. But I think the will of the Panthers is being underestimated. Everyone has had the Eagles playing for the State championship since before the beginning of the season. No one had RP doing much of anything. But here we are. RP has nothing to lose, and they're defending their home field. Which has proven to be a tough place to play the last few years. SP has everything to lose, so all the pressure is on them. What good is all the State talk, if you can't win the Sectional? This game will be closer that most think. Get your tickets and go watch. That doesn't mean they aren't tough because they are very good. I believe this game comes down to a couple things... can RP match SP's physicality and can RP control the clock like they did last week (minus the turnovers). Seeing the Panthers play in person twice now I think they will be able to do both of those things. Quote
GroundSquirrel Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Ok yes SP schedule isn't the strongest but riddle me this I think SP could easily go undefeated with RP's schedule. I personally think if RP replayed their whole season, they wouldn't go undefeated. Looking back I wish we could see a Cloverdale RP rematch 1 Quote
Miner_Pride Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 In the SW7 Days... that's all we heard too.... a schedule of small 1A teams pretty much our schedule.. course we ourselves were 1A. South V had a great team. They had their chances against Linton... 2 early redzones.. and another at the 21. Had they scored that opening drive it would have ignited that fan base that truly showed up... Quote

I think a lot of your takes this year have been really well thought out and on point but this sir is not one of those. SP added 3a speedway perennial power Lutheran as their non conference games. They just as SV can not control the teams in their conference or how competitive those teams are. If you flip the RP and SP schedules they will not look similar in results. The only common opponents are Cloverdale and Covington. South beat these teams 91-20 and RP 73-65. These are not similar teams and I believe the scoreboard will show this. To be completely transparent I graduated from South Putnam( I'll always be an eagle) and I realize that makes me biased but I stand by my claim that these teams are not on the same level. Enjoyed listening to all the chatter this season guys! 1 Quote
