Did anyone see??

Question

Posted

Watching highlights online- did anyone see the South Adams TD pass vs North Miami somewhere in the 3rd quarter (I believe ?)?

Looked like a “hidden player” type deal where the player was “talking” with a Coach on the sideline- then when the ball was snapped took off down the sideline.

Is there anything in the rule book addressing this situation??

Sorry for not providing a clip, I’m not that tech savvy.

See everyone thought this was sarcasm, the SEVEN more beatings of this poor horse that I thought was already buried would prove my original point, I some doubt it would have ended quickly.

I am dissapointed in the crew/officiating staff - with a TRIP TO THE STATE FINALS ON THE LINE - they wouldn't get together and get this one right.

Pretty sure this was the regional game. So more like trip to the semi-state on the line. Then Pioneer beat South Adams 31-14 so you could say South Adams got what they deserved. You could say North Miami missed out on a Regional Championship, however they lost to Pioneer 22-41 in the regular season so they probably would've lost the next week. This basically boils down to a lot of what-ifs. Is it a shame? Yes. Can we change it now? No. Did the refs miss the call? Yes. Are they human and make mistakes? Yes. Can we now move on? I hope so.

Do you guys NOT read anything I've wrote?? I would have dropped this issue LONG AGO - I don't have a dog in the fight. What has continued me coming back to the thread is our STATE Evaluator of Officials (Bobref)'s SILENCE on the matter - or lack of acknowledgment that the crew did in fact get this wrong. Not a "legal play all the way" as he has stated.

Bob has historically NEVER avoided or been this silent on a topic on this particular forum (the officiating one) on any other topic that I can gather???

I simply don't understand??

Except he was not silent....His first response based on the information given cited the rules that were in play. He gave a follow up answer when he referred to talking to the crew. You even quoted that answer in your post Wednesday. He just did not give an answer you liked.

That said, you have to take a step back and see how long this topic has gone on....especially for someone who had no dog in that game.

In his defense, he admitted he's not very tech savvy. Maybe he didn't even see the answer, lol.

The last reply Bob gave on the play in question was "legal play all the way."

I have/had been hoping for an acknowledgment that it was in fact - not a legal play.

Other officials have stated as such on here - I was hoping our State Evaluator of Officials would do the same.

That is all I EVER wanted.

Sorry to drag it on.

- It wasn't a fake punt at all - it was a 2nd down play.

- I think 2 things can be true at the same time . #1 - I think that the South Adams coaches pulled one over on the officiating crew - and I think I fall into the "shame on you" camp in regards to the coaching staff. They had to have known they LIED to the officiating staff in order to pull this off.

#2. I wholeheartly think the side judge watches #2 (the player) walking, what he thinks, is off the field. Then the snap happens, #2 runs down the sideline, and it is a TD. So - if I think that player checked out of the game -that has to be a penalty! Or...if I'm not sure if he did, he most certainly is a "hidden player" scenario, and it is a flag.

I am dissapointed in the crew/officiating staff - with a TRIP TO THE STATE FINALS ON THE LINE - they wouldn't get together and get this one right.

You can believe all you want, but the video we have will never be definitive on what that official is looking at. A sideline camera from the other side of the field is not going to provide that. I'm pretty confident this play completely caught him off guard. If nobody has information on how this player got to where he did or where he came from, the result of any conversation will not result in any changes.

The coaches absolutely pulled one over on the crew and the defense. It's also very possible this player did not run this play as he was taught. If he had waited until the ball was marked ready for play and then moved toward the sideline (starting inside the numbers), this could possibly have been legal. If he has lined up that deep but facing the defense and a little more on the field of play, this could have possibly been legal. The crew failed in catching this, but if you have ever officiated you would understand you will never see everything. It's physically impossible. You have to call what you see and trust your mechanics and doing the same thing every time will help prevent this. Did the R and U count the offense before the snap? Did they get 10 and wonder where the 11th was? The H doesn't count players so he has no idea if there are 10 or 11 or 12. He has other things to worry about pre-snap as well. But ultimately it's a bad miss, but it could happen to any crew. I guarantee both teams and coaches made many mistakes as well and probably more than the officials. This was not the only play that affected the outcome of the game.
