Carroll (Fort Wayne) QB Jeff Becker commits to South Dakota State

I was trying to find a SAC 2021 thread or something to post this in, but figured what the heck and just make a tew topic/thread for it. Carroll QB Jeff Becker announced last night via Twitter that he was committing to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Congrats to him! He can certainly sling the ball around.

Good for him. I thought he would go D1 after watching his sophomore and junior seasons, but I'm no scout.

I’d argue that this gig is better than a dozen or more D1 gigs.  So many kids grow up with a D1/FBS or bust mindset and then get impatient and hit the transfer portal.

I won't argue that at all. South Dakota State is the real deal.

Yeah I was going to say, SDSU is a heck of an FCS program. I would guess at BEST Becker could have gotten an MAC level D1 offer, and I think one could argue a top level FCS program over a small tier Group of 5 FBS program is a more attractive option.

I'm not sure a MAC program could match SDSU's atmosphere.

Or he could have become a “preferred walk”on victim. Glad to see the Jackrabbits pluck a cherry from Indiana.

FCS is D1....2 classifications.

SDSU's conference, the Missouri Valley (also home to Indiana State & power North Dakota State) has held their own over the years against FBS schools.  This is a pretty good source for listing FCS wins over FBS schools.

Best of luck to him!  One of my client's daughter goes to SDSU--they're absolutely rabid about sports there.
