I saw a Twitter conversation saying Reitz and Harrison had a combined over 30+ penalties in the game around the 4Q. Wonder if Harrison had some 4Q touchdowns?

Reitz #discipline just doesn't seem to trend

Congrats to Coach Hurley on tying with Gene Logel with 138 wins for Memorial. A win against North next week will make Hurley the all time winningest coach in Memorial’s History.

Game was 28-7 at halftime, and 42-14 at the end of the third. Harrison scored twice on the JV defense in the fourth quarter, while Reitz scored again.

Game was way too choppy and broken up, and really just drug on all evening.

As far as the “discipline”, that is a bunch of bulls***, and I know several on here know it. Truth is, this is the same stupid s**t that we saw last year, and the year before, (as Coates was thrown out of the game at the end of the third quarter, so no playing against Lincoln for you) and as much as I hate to say it, if this continues again this season, results be damned, Brunson should be gone. I know I am in the minority on this view, but, I’m sorry, this is not Reitz football.

My sleeping pills kicked in early, thank God. That was a bloodbath.

Was not expecting that from the game. It was virtually a tossup on most online projections.

These next 3 games for Reitz will be a telling sign for the Panthers. Since I think they play Lincoln, Jasper and North.

What we have learned from Week 1:

Memorial dominated Jasper in a beat down scoring on nearly every possession. As the Tigers appeared go down the field at ease, while the defense stiffened up against Jasper. Jasper had a couple of decent drives, but couldn’t get anything to work for them. Memorial heads over to North for a big matchup.

Mater Dei ended their game in the 1H against Central being up like 38-0 at HT.  Looks the Wildcats did whatever they wanted against the Bears and the Bears had no response.

Lincoln obliterated Bosse at Enlow winning by 38 points, which I didn’t see coming. Since both teams replaced important QBs from last season. I wasn’t tuned into this game, so I’m assuming the Alices ran the ball a lot.

Reitz continues its undefeated regular season streak in the SIAC by winning its 19th SIAC game. However, Reitz did faced a few internal challenges on penalties. Harrison gave Reitz a struggle for 1.25 Quarters before Reitz took control. But also had similar problems with penalties the entire game.

The Castle and North game sounded like it was defensive showdown. Castle managed to win with their defense and stopped North’s rushing attack by allowing around 70 yards. However, North’s Defense gave all types fits to Castle’s Offense having unofficially 110 yards. Castle only needed a pick 6 and 4th down conversion TD to win the game by 3 and deny a 3rd straight lost to North. The anticipated Sectional Rematch is going to be amazing in October/November.

Are you going to post updated conference stat leaders throughout the season again? Enjoyed that.

Yes, however, I’ve run into trouble as Hudl removed public stats or they made it harder to find. I still use MaxPreps, but some local teams and postseason teams (when I do this again), do not post on MP and usually have their stats on Hudl. Hopefully I can figure out a way on the Hudl problem.

So the top 3 teams in 3A (and 4 of the top 10) are in a single sectional.

Yikes.  I know it’s early and surely to change as the season goes on.  But I wonder if there’s any precedent for that.

Probably the sectional that was nicknamed the “Sectional of Death” a couple of years ago.

I vaguely remember that.  Googling it, Kyle Neddenriep ran a piece in 2017 referring to Class 5A Sectional 13 by that term.  They had 3 teams in the Top 5 of 5A -- at least at the time he wrote the article.  But they were ranked 3, 4, and 5.

As an epilogue, Cathedral won Sectional 13 that year -- beating Roncalli 28-23 and Decatur Central 42-21 in the Sectional Finals.  They would go on to beat Bloomington South in the Regional, but lose the Semi-State to eventual 5A state champ Columbus East by a score of 42-13.

I think Sectional 28 with Chatard, Guerin, Brebeuf and West Lafayette a few years ago was also called the sectional of death on this forum.

Now that’s the one I was thinking of

Following up on this, looks like Hudl is a no go for me now, my research has fallen short and it appears Hudl made stats private for teams. Tried using the Hudl-Fan thing, but came up empty handed. Hopefully I can figure out something soon.

What we learned from Week 2:

Missing some players? No problem, as Reitz runs through Lincoln winning 30-6 in a dominating game against them. Panthers win their 20th straight regular season game. Lincoln ran into a buzzsaw against Reitz last night and couldn’t do much offensively.

How about them Cats? Mater Dei overcame an 24-7 deficit in the 2H and a last minute touchdown to beat Castle in a thriller. And now raises some eyebrows in the SIAC. Sounds like their QB had almost 380 total yards against the Knights. Castle had this one slip away from them, as they built a decent lead early on and was moving the ball well. But had a rough 2H allowing MD to take advantage of it.

A better feeling on First Ave, as Central gets their first win in almost 3 years against Bosse. Both teams were fighting back and forth the entire tonight and Central came up top with a last minute touchdown to seal the deal.

Jasper gets the rebound win following last week’s loss to Memorial. Jasper dropped 41 points against Harrison and moved the ball very well, however, they kept trading shots against Harrison the entire game. Harrison kept it a game with Jasper for all 4Q and only lost by 8 points and played pretty well.

Up on US-41, Memorial prevailed over North beating them by 21 points after having a close game. The Tigers and Huskies were trading shots with each other in the 1H defensively or offensively. However, the Tigers offense pulled away with an impressive performance from Fisher and the offense. And another great defensive game from the Tigers. While North gave up 35 points, their defense held on for the majority of the game and had excellent pressure against Memorial.

While it is still early in the season, it already feels like which teams will be shaking up the SIAC this season. Going to be a fun race to see who will capture the crown this year.
