Very cool!  When is the last time a football game was played in Bosse Field?

2011, Memorial host Belleville West from Illinois, the Tigers held off Belleville’s 2 point conversion at the end. I believe Memorial ended up winning 21-20 in that game.

August 28, 2011. Memorial 21-19 over Belleville West. I'm not sure anyone knows when the last game before that was. I think it would have been Rex Mundi's last home game but it would take some time in the library to know for sure.

1971 was the last one before the 2011 game. Since the 2011 game was the 40 year anniversary game from what I remembered.

Maybe. I was pretty involved in the last Bosse Field game with Mr. Bussing from the Otters and 1971 was our best educated guess. The "40th Anniversary" was a bit of a marketing ploy... LOL

Ahh, probably in the 60’s if I had to guess

Well, the information we know is that Central and Rex Mundi both used Bosse Field as their home field. Central moved from downtown to First Avenue in 1971 (presumably before the school year). I assume Central's football stadium was built as part of the new construction. If that is the case, then Central would not have played at Bosse Field as the home team in 1971. Rex Mundi closed in 1972, so the 1971 season would have been its last using Bosse Field as its home field. Memorial's last game with Rex Mundi was Nov. 12, 1971, which was the last week of the HS football season. If it was Rex Mundi's home game, then it would seem that was the last game at Bosse Field. If it was at Enlow, then whoever rex Mundi hosted a week prior would be the last game. I need to go to the library and get on the microfilm for old newspapers....

Ah, no need for the microfilm as far as I'm concerned.   🙂  Interesting history.  I always loved playing baseball there in the early 90's ... and, yes, bad memories remain from the HH vs Memorial in Regional championship game.

How good is Castle compared to how they normally are?

This is probably their best team in a while, but they can be inconsistent at times. For example they manhandled a good 4A Reitz team but also lost to a borderline 2A/3A Mater Dei team and gave up 30 points to 3A Vincennes who has a losing record. They do have the capability to put up a lot of points and their front 7 on defensive is very good. Their top DL (Benny Patterson) is a four star getting numerous power 5 offers (including Michigan, LSU, USC). Their top LB (Gavin Leach) is a three star committed to Toledo but also getting many D1 offers. Their RB is also getting some D1 looks - runs hard, fast, tough to stop. They are beatable but it will not be easy.

McCool looks awesome on film. Going to be a very hard game for my Highlanders.

He is a great player. What films do you have? Pretty much anyone playing Bosse and Central looks next level. Castle ran all over Reitz, but Reitz is without its best LB and their D secondary is very soft. They wanted no part of tackling McCool in what I saw.

Overall, Castle has some very good players and they seem to be coming together at the right time. Giving up 21 to MD in the second half to lose still makes me scratch my head.

Castle’s Benny Patterson offered by Michigan per his X account.

That’s great!

Very unusual that he’s getting offers from these kinds of programs - but not IU or Purdue.  Usually, those out of state programs will take their recruiting cues from the P4 programs in a player’s home state.

Michael Lindauer is back on the SIU roster after SIU’s waiver being approved. I believe SIU had 1 available freshman QB after the other 3 got injured.

I really hope he gets a chance to play and has success. He had a bad break at Cincy that cost him two good years. It illustrates how incredible (and sometimes lucky) a player has to be to succeed at the college level.

Cignetti will be on him. Pat Kuntz is one hell of a D-Line coach. They need to go after this kid hard.
