  1. I understand the thought, but don’t agree with it. As a sports society, we have become so enamored of championships, that we tend to view anything short of that as a failure. Every year there are 6 champs — and over 300 non-champs. Championships are, in many ways, a crap shoot. Injuries, travel, weather, a lot of things can affect the ability to win a championship. I don’t think you meant it that way, but too many people have the “Ricky Bobby” mentality of “2nd place is just the first loser.” At the high school level at least, there is so much more to it than that.

  3. With the construction of Shields Field, Snider is now the only team in Allen County without their own stadium............yet they bring in more football revenue to FWCS than any other team. Not sure how that makes sense. Regarding your "slippage" comment, the only thing slipping is enrollment numbers and white collar families. Last year was rough and the year before that was subpar, but they had some darn good teams the four years prior. State champs in 2015. Not sure how they weren't the state champs in 2016. Colossal meltdown against an inferior Carmel team in 2017. And a pretty decent team that lost to the Greyhounds by 17 points in 2018. Let's see what happens in 2021 and 2022 before we write them off as a slipping program. My early prediction for this year is a good matchup at semi-state between Snider and Zionsville. The winner of that will have their hands full though.

  4. There's no could be to it. Z'ville will be 6A in the next classification. They would have been in the last cycle if not for the new Elkhart bumping them down. They are on track to be another "mega" school just like the rest of the HCC.

  5. Kudos to the Mooresville staff. Our kids enjoyed, and used all the reps we got to get better and move forward. Played some good competition in the small school bracket, and with 9 kids, came out much better than went there. Lost a close one Mooresville JV squad that sounds like it went to the championship. Great day for all teams!

  6. Actually the fact that they continue to churn out great teams, despite having poor facilities, should give them some bonus points, if anything.

  7. My only recommendation for next year is to have them seeded differently. Our bracket had the same teams as pool play.

  8. Pioneer has the best 1A public program. There's a reason why they are now in 2A for the second classification cycle. Pioneer has the best public small school athletic program in the entire state right now.

  9. The Starfires are great, no doubt. But it’s hard to overlook Pioneer at this level. Their girls have won titles this year in basketball, volleyball, and softball. We know what the football team has done. They are becoming the “Carmel” of 1A. But then you get to their facility. 😂🤣

  10. The value of this is largely underestimated. In addition to making more athletes available, you build an athletic culture that translates to all sports. Sure, you can work out all year round, concentrating on a single sport. But it’s the competition of actually playing that builds the culture.

  11. Any successful program in our state or any other...that is the current flavor of the month....is going to attract talent from around the city/area without any effort whatsoever. It's the nature of the beast in our current environment. It used to be more specific to the P/P flavor of the month but that has/is changing.

  13. Guess that’s how you build a better program….

  14. Don’t worry, Muda, camp was voluntary and they had plenty of time to play video games afterward.

  15. Might as well rank Indiana 6th. Per capita, Indiana obliterates California. If we had California's population, we'd have 47 kids in the Top 250 compared to the Sunshine state's 13.
