  1. I absolutely believe that the intent and wording is meant as "you're in our school and you have a pulse" Not making Varsity doesn't mean you didn't have the opportunity to do so. The opportunity was there, but the ability wasn't.

  2. I find this really troubling. I have known Roy Richards ever since he started at Morton. Worked many games involving his teams. He is a fine person and a terrific coach. What he did with a moribund Morton program was nothing short of miraculous. As soon as open enrollment hit Hammond, his program became a magnet for every kid in Hammond who aspired to play football. Kids ran toward a great program, not away from an abusive coach. Coach Richards is “old school” and he coaches his kids hard. Sounds like some people in Portage didn’t like that. Frankly, that tells me more about Portage than about Coach Richards. There’s a reason this once proud program has been a dumpster fire for years now. Soft.

  4. Lets focus on the bolded/ underlined section here. Having had the opportunity to participate does NOT mean you HAD the opportunity to participate in varsity athletics just because you existed as 14-17 year old. If you're in high school 3 years and only make a varsity roster for 2 years (for this exercise we'll assume this is a 3-sport athlete that has been on Varsity 2 full years in all 3 sports), that means you only HAD THE OPPORUNITY TO PARTICIPATE in 2 out of 3 of those possible years at the VARSITY level, which is what matters for transfers. So if this hypothetical kid played varsity as a sophomore and junior, but did not as a freshman, they're considered Having had the opportunity to participate even though they did not, in fact, get a varsity opportunity to participate as a freshman? Their opportunity in year 1 was "well you're in our (member) school and have a pulse so you had a chance!" Idk, it's weird to me but to be honest this whole situation is weird so lets just buckle up.. Lol Disclosure: This is not an attack on slicer28's wording or explanation, or anyone's for that matter. Just facilitating some more conversation on this controversial topic.

  5. To be fair, a toddler could predict the top 6-8 teams in 6A as its the same every fall.
