So "athletes", aka those participating in an extracurricular athletic program, should be given priority over "slugs" who are not interested in extracurricular athletics but still want to improve themselves physically?

I don't think the IHSAA has the authority to shut down a program. Do they? And it is the athletic departments and school boards that should have the common decency to take a good, long look at these moribund program and make the determination if the resources they consume could be better allocated elsewhere.

Kokomo did the same thing when Haworth high school closed back in 1984. The Haworth building on the southwest side of town became the high school. The old Kokomo H.S. building, uptown across from Memorial Gymnasium, housed 8th & 9th grades, but I think that is no longer the case.

Yes, you should. Another reason why the cookie-cutter approach championed by government schools doesn't work. It is usually just a race to the bottom. Where the bottom is mediocrity at best. FTFY, you educational professional you. But, but don't the charter schools just need more money in order to adequately serve these ESL and Disabled students? I have also heard variations of this statement for going on 15 years now. Why would duly elected politicians pass laws and enact policies that purposefully makes the government schools look bad or fail? How do such actions enrich the politicians or their constituents? Maybe, at least I will get the degree. Maybe work for a private institution that doesn't take taxpayer funds. After a brief employment stint in college I swore to myself I would never take another government job, and I intend to honor that.

I have never tried to act like I know more than I do. I have asked you, a professional educator, for information and/or clarification several times. Yet you most always demur with the deflection of "look it up yourself". So I guess I'll be going to night school to get that teaching degree, then my knowledge will no longer be lacking. Sorry that I, an Indiana taxpayer who helps to fund Indiana government schools, may have a differing opinion than that of a professional educator. Government schools would be forced to adapt/improve or go out of business. Just like in the real world.

Baby step, Irishman, baby steps. The dissolution of the government education monopoly won't happen in day, or even a decade. But it will happen, and that scares the hell out of you for some reason.
