  1. It's always interesting to me to see the similarities and differences between the two polls. For example in 6A, Lawrence Central got at least one vote worth 3 points in the Coaches Poll (which only includes 10 voters/coaches), while in the AP poll, they received zero votes from 16 voters. Just seems interesting that at least one coach thinks highly of the Bears. Also a shoutout to a few CIC teams that have been super impressive even though they have not yet cracked their classes' top ten ranking. Oak Hill (3A - 3-0) was straight up dominate in their victory over perennial 2A power Eastbrook, and Madison-Grant (2A - 3-0) has not had a winning season since 2011. Well on their way to accomplishing that with their start to the season, including last week's win over 4A Mississinewa.
  2. This is just me being curious - you have Jimtown by 28+... would you not consider that BIG? lol
  3. It was only after 2 weeks of play. I didn't claim those teams had the best defenses in the state (and even mentioned I did not anticipate it ending up that way when it is all said and done). It was just an interesting coincidence that those 3 teams are all in the same sectional and at the time had the top 3 scoring defenses in the state. My post was merely meant to congratulate those teams' Ds strong starts. Doesn't matter who the opponent is in my opinion, holding any team to less than 7 points is always impressive.
  4. NLC teams in the rankings Week 4 6A Warsaw - RV-12th (Coaches) / 10th (AP) 5A Mishawaka - 2nd (Coaches - with 1 first place vote!) / 2nd (AP - with 2 first place votes!) 4A NorthWood - 6th (Coaches) / 6th (AP) Northridge - RV-16th (AP only)
  5. Bart Curtis - current Head Coach at Warsaw since 2018, who previously coached at Mishawaka, New Prairie, and Maconaquah. The Cavemen still run the same offense that he brought with him to Mishawaka in 2008. It is affectionately known in this part of the state as "Bart Ball", especially since there are not many large schools (5A and 6A) that run this style of offense.
  6. I posted this in the NLC thread, but wanted to give it more visibility as it's own topic for others to appreciate on this forum. I know it's only through 3 weeks of the season and Warsaw's 70 point performance against a woeful Plymouth has this statistic skewed a bit. HOWEVER, I find it awesome that both Warsaw and Mishawaka are leading class 6A and 5A, respectively, in scoring offense running that Triple - Midline - Toss / "Bart Ball" style of offense. Just goes to show you don't have to be a high flying offense to score a lot of points on that side of the ball!

  8. FINAL 70 - Warsaw 0 - Plymouth Warsaw defense held Plymouth to 95 total yards of offense, 4 first downs (all in the second half) and forced 3 turnovers (including 2 returned for TDs). Tiger offense racked up 406 yards of offense (including going 3/3 and 1 TD in the passing game!)
  9. 4Q - 03:56 70 - Warsaw 0 - Plymouth Tiger third stringers keeping the shutout while adding a few TDs themselves
  10. 2Q - 02:30 56 - Warsaw 0 - Plymouth Tigers have 6 offensive touchdowns and 2 defensive touchdowns. Plymouth hasn’t even recorded a first down at this point.
  11. I went 7-1 last week on the picks, taking me to 13-3 so far this year. If only I were this good on all my sports predictions! Conference play gets started tonight, and with that a few new Week 3 matchups due to the schedule change in the NLC to rotate opponents every two seasons. There are two traditional Week 3 rivalries (Warsaw/Plymouth and Concord/NorthWood) and then two matchups that used to be in the final week of the season (Wawasee/Goshen and Northridge/Mishawaka). Here we go with my predictions (weekly rankings based on AP poll) 5A #16 Concord (1-1) at 4A #7 NorthWood (2-0): The Panthers came away with an impressive victory last week against East Noble after pulling away in the second half. The Minutemen bounced back to even their win/loss record shutting out backyard rival Jimtown. Fun fact - this series is tied 18-18 over the last 35 years. Always tends to be a good one! Both have a common opponent in the Jimmies, and NorthWood looked more dominant in their victory. The Panthers were my pick to win the NLC this year, and they'll start the conference season 1-0... NORTHWOOD BY 16 Goshen (0-2) at Wawasee (0-2): Both teams coming off disappointing losses, but the Redhawks by far had the tougher opponent. Goshen hung in with New Prairie a lot longer than most would have predicted. You can see glimpses of hope with that team. Just need to put together 4 quarters of good football. The Warriors on the other hand... at least they were able to put some points up on the board this week. Any chance for victories this season are tonight and next week. They are at home tonight, but I just think the RedHawks are the better team and get the victory in Coach Wogomon's return to Syracuse... GOSHEN BY 14 4A #16 Northridge (1-1) at 5A #3 Mishawaka (2-0): Both teams had different outcomes against their NIC opponents last week. The Raiders took it on the chin at Elkhart, while the Cavemen continued to impress against SB St Joe. Interesting fact - since Bart Curtis took over at Warsaw, and since Mishawaka joined the NLC - Northridge is 0-fer against "Bart Ball" offense that both teams run, including a regular season finale defeat of 58-14 to the Cavemen. Can the Northridge defense finally figure out a way to stop this style of offense? My thoughts are no... MISHAWAKA BY 21 Plymouth (0-2) at 6A #12 Warsaw (2-0): Truly a tale of two teams and programs going opposite ways. Plymouth has now lost 13 straight games, which seems unheard of for the Rockies. Meanwhile, the Tigers have had two impressive victories to start this season and once again get to play at home in the Lake City. Here is to hoping the Tigers stay healthy after rolling to a victory tonight before a tough upcoming stretch at Concord, at NorthWood, then home vs. Mishawaka... WARSAW BY 35
  12. The new stadium at Fort Wayne Carroll has it and it was awesome in my opinion.
  13. I feel like most posters are just driving conversation here for the most part. I don't think anyone is truly getting bent out shape with the polls. Hard to argue there aren't some confusing placements though.
  14. For years I have been able to have my tweets retweeted on the @gridirondigest Twitter page when I included them in my tweet and the hashtag #tgd when posting. However, through the first two weeks, none of my tweets are getting retweeted. I see others are going through though. Any idea why mine may not be getting included in the process? Is there someone here that operates that Twitter handle? Thanks!
  15. NLC teams in the rankings Week 3 6A Warsaw - RV-13th (Coaches) / RV-12th (AP) 5A Mishawaka - 3rd (Coaches) / 3rd (AP - with 1 first place vote!) Concord - RV-14th (Coaches) / RV-16th (AP) 4A NorthWood - 6th (Coaches) / 7th (AP) Northridge - RV-16th (Coaches) / RV-16th (AP)
  16. Definitely a situation where a coach selected the wrong "Eastern". Surely that coach meant to vote for Eastbrook, Eastside or Eastern (Greentown) instead of Eastern (Pekin).
  17. The 1 first place vote for Carmel is a head scratcher for sure. I believe they should be ranked after facing two extremely difficult teams to start the season, but they literally just lost to Center Grove last week. What coach voted for Carmel OVER Center Grove after the Trojans victory? Baffling
  18. Didn't see a thread for 6A and the season currently, but thought it was interesting to see Sectional 2 with the top 3 scoring defenses in 6A (and all 4 teams in Top 10) so far through Week 2. I do not necessarily expect it to end up that way when it's all said and done, but wanted to give a shoutout to those team's defensive units. 6A 1. Elkhart 3.50 2. Penn 6.00 3. Warsaw 7.00 4. Lake Central 8.00 5. Fishers 8.50 6. Crown Point 9.00 7. Hamilton Southeastern 10.50 7. Homestead 10.50 9. Carroll (FW) 12.00 9. Franklin Central 12.00
  19. NLC FINAL SCORES Warsaw 24 - Chesterton 7 Mishawaka 30 - SB St Joe 8 NorthWood 35 - East Noble 14 Concord 14 - Jimtown 0 Elkhart 28 - Northridge 7 West Noble 35 - Wawasee 24 New Prairie 33 - Goshen 14 Kokomo 49 - Plymouth 0
  20. FINAL 24 - Warsaw 7 - Chesterton Tigers take an interception back for a touchdown with about 2 minutes left. Nail in the coffin! Game is now officially over.
  21. 4Q - 04:20 17 - Warsaw 7 - Chesterton Tigers score on a PASSING touchdown on 4th and Goal from the 9 yard line!
