I’m just catching up on stuff I missed when my kids were around. I had a daughter with a softball habit and a son who was going to be a rock star.

I agree with everything you said. I heard in the radio this morning they were playing, and I really feel like this is a must win for IU. Then I immediately realized that if IU is playing tonight, my wife will be watching that and I can get back to my Justified binge. No clue what happens to IU, but it’s a win/win for me.

Speculating on the future of college sports
Impartial_Observer replied to Irishman's topic in The Next Level
All it’s going to take for the NCAA to fold, is for two of the P5 decide to start their in BB tournament. Call me a romantic, I will never apologize for being a supporter of education based sports. Granted big time FB and MBK are a far cry from that. But let’s look at college sports as a whole. March Madness pays the tab for everything. When the NCAA loses their MBK tournament so long to the NCAA LAX, wrestling, WBK, SB, BB, VB championships in D1, D2, and D3. The vast majority of college athletes aren’t one and done and skipping classes come spring semester. How many of those kids don’t even get a college education were it not for athletics? NCAA is gone, nothing more than a pro minor league. I see big changes looming on the horizon. If you don’t think it’s coming to a HS near you, you need to get your head out of the sand. -

Don’t be dragging the high life into this. -
And you’ve hit on the point where IU and I parted ways. Sampson is a cheater. IU knew that when they hired him and he came in and continued cheating. Izzo’s post Northwestern rant was spot on. The guys IU is recruiting may well be four or five star AAU guys, but in what limited time my wife has forced me to watch this crap, they’re soft, they’re not competitors, and they’re lazy. Mediocrity is the bar at Bloomington and it has been since the Glass administration.

I wasn’t comparing FC and JC’s wresting programs, but I will consider myself an educated. Do you feel like FC’s dominance in wrestling is superior genetics? -

Might want to do a little homework before you head down the legacy wrestling road. -

Indiana should be on CST. I don’t care what time it is in Cincinnatti, Louisville, or Owensboro. -
WaPo Piece on Declining Football Participation

My issue isn’t age discrepancies. I’m more concerned with young undeveloped necks supporting young undeveloped heads, with an additional 3 pounds added to it. Football also requires a certain amount of mental maturity to play the game and 56’ers struggle with it, much less younger kids. I understand younger kids don’t hit hard enough to hurt each other. Yes you’ll get the odd kid falling wrong, I get all that. I think there’s enough evidence that there could be a link between CTE and other brain related diseases and repeated trauma to the head. The info’s out there, I’m not here to debate it, just stating my opinion. Quite possibly the larger issue is how many slow developers do we lose because they were out in a no win situation, get the shit knocked out of them and say screw this. If you’ve been involved in youth Football for 10 years I’m sure you’ve seen the 4th grade runt that grows up to be an all conference lineman. I’m sure you’re also aware of the 4th grade phenoms that never even see the field or play in HS. I’m interested in growing the game. If we don’t adapt, and I feel like the NFHS has done a great job with recent rule changes that moves us in a positive direction. I am not advocating for banning tackle football under 7th grade. I feel like we’re at a place where we can still accomplish the fundamental skills we need without full contact in 56ers, and if the powers that be see fit to do such a thing, I wouldn’t be mad about it. -

Not sure on your age analysis but physically there’s a hell of a difference between 2nd/3rd graders and 7 graders. Yea, I’m clearly in the sit at home on the coach camp. Unbelievable! -

Young men today don’t play football for a variety of reasons. Many because it’s too hard, which is exactly why young men need this game, because it’s hard. That being said if tackle football were to be restricted to 7th grade up, I wouldn’t be mad about it. -
How many embarrassments in that lot?

I showed up for a JV game late in the season to be informed we would be playing 8-man. I wasn’t even sure if we could do such a thing, but we had two teams there and four officials so we went with it. All that being said, I’m all for smaller schools doing whatever they need to, for kids to play. I don’t want anything to do with it. Didn’t strike me as particularly appealing.

Games I saw I thought the program was making progress. That being said I did not see them this year. I said what I said. -

I really have no idea on that. I know there are several really bad football programs across the river in a short driving distance. I’ve worked there in Football and Softball with KY teams. Huge investment in facilities in the last few years, Coach Wilson was winning some games. I thought they were making some headway. Why do I get the feeling there’s more to the story.
