In your opinion (assuming you are fairly close to the program) what is it that is holding Avon back outside of the obvious inability to stop anybody? Even the best programs/coaches have down years but this fall from grace seems to have happened rather quickly.
-
Still don't know what to make of this Cincinnati outfit either however. I don't think they are a top 10 team but clearly a top 25 team. Does the fact that they were tied at halftime with Murray State last weekend mean they too were holding back and keeping it vanilla? Time will tell.

Cathedral at Columbus North
temptation replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Second time today I’ve read this forum and spit out my drink. (Still out of smiley faces.) Is Cathedral also playing freshman/JV games against Morton? If not, dress em on the 24th, lol. Just like with Penn, I feel bad for the Morton kids that have to endure that long bus ride just to get their teeth kicked in. -
Season defining contest this Saturday for the Hoosiers…Vegas has them +3.5 on their home field. A win or even a competitive loss could propel them to another solid bowl game. A loss like Iowa and the wheels very well could fall off.
-
Eh, he is being too hard on himself and this is classic coach speak to protect his kids. While I respect it, two tipped passes that turned into INT’s and a scoop and score were clearly the difference in this game. Ties into my other thread about Iowa being overrated and a huge pretender. Two weeks in a row they capitalized (no discredit intended to them even though I am sure that is how this comes across to some) on poor QB play to propel themselves to victory. I understand it’s what great teams do as their DL was dominant but banking on that sort of stuff all season seems a bit far fetched. Plus Ferentz is usually good for a couple of head scratchers per year. 9-3? Sure. Top 5/title contender? No way. As for Campbell, he’d be one of the first dudes I reached out to if I were USC.

Urb already wearing his welcome thin in Jacksonville. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t make it through the season.

New Pal headed back to 4A?

Gotcha. Nothing burger in my opinion. -
While true, I have always been of the mindset of if you are going to do something, you might as well do it right.

47-7 Irish. -
Carroll/Dwenger and Snider/Homestead should be fun! That being said, what is the consensus on Snider this week? Will the week off help or will they be rusty?
-
No doubt. And they will begin to reap the benefits THIS week. The mental game of coaching is over half the battle and if you can keep your kids believing in the process after the month that Chatard had, you have done one hell of a job. They instantly become the most interesting team in the state for me to watch for the next two months.

A 4A team that will be damn dangerous come sectional time and better off for it. 0-4 and still getting respect in the polls tells you all you need to know.

New Pal headed back to 4A?
temptation replied to fenderbender's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Speaking of New Pal, I saw somewhere that Mount Vernon had some players participate in some rude behavior the other night after scoring. Can anyone in the know elaborate? -
Was Stafford ever a thorn in the Bears side in Detroit? Honestly asking.
-
I know that sometimes one play can be over magnified and blown out of proportion but I believe the decision to kick the FG on 4th and goal from the 2 after a 9 minute opening drive was asinine. Most professional coaches are way too conservative when it comes to this decision in my opinion. That was a huge win for Seattle and they went down and scored anyway and the Colts never recovered. Even in the event they stop you there, the likelihood of them driving 98-99 yards is pretty damn low. I'm all for "taking the points" early in the game in certain circumstances, but not that one.

Bull. -
I get that and while winning ugly is better than losing, no sport overreacts on a weekly basis like college football.

9-0 thus far in MIC vs MIC contests but things get a bit more dicey this week with some unpredictable games on the slate. Center Grove @ North Central: Hard to believe that the meat of CG's schedule is in the rear view mirror as they are now in firm control of the conference race and should be able to coast into their October match up with Cathedral. BD kept it close for a half last week but NC does not have the horses to do the same. CG will have subs in early in this one. Trojans win 49-0. Lawrence Central @ Pike: Both teams should have this game circled on the calendar is it might be their only shot at a conference win. LC has a non-conference win on their resume, whereas Pike is still searching for its first win. Pike showed improvement last season but is now riding a 9 game losing streak. They were able to make Carmel sweat for a while last week but the 'Hounds cruised in the 2nd half. LC kept it close with Warren early before getting its doors blown off. I'll give the home team an edge here. 20-17 Pike. Lawrence North @ Carmel: This contest meets the definition of a measuring stick for Lawrence North. They are in the middle of the conference pecking order and I don't think they are up to par with the Warrens, BDs or Carmel's of the world. All three are still on the schedule and they get the 'Hounds first. The unknown of the Carmel quarterback situation still gives me pause, but they should still have enough to hold off the Wildcats. Carmel wins 30-17. Warren Central @ Ben Davis: A true battle for bragging rights each and every year and while it may not be what it used to be (mainly for the conference title), it is still as fierce as ever. Both teams have come a LONG way since opening week losses as Kirschner returns to the west side sporting his alma mater's colors for a change. I was not impressed with either team in week 1 but both have proven to be "quality losses." I expect A LOT of points in this one and whomever has the ball last wins in what turns out to be another classic chapter in this rivalry. Gimme the Giants 37-34.

7-1 overall through two weeks of conference play for the Temp. An exciting slate of games this week that should shape the conference race and reveal some things. Fishers @ Brownsburg: The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season, in lopsided fashion AT HOME against their rival. Surely they will be in the mindset of erasing that taste out of their mouths. Brownsburg, on the other hand, went on the road and dealt their rival a lopsided defeat of their own in disposing of Avon. Looking at the combined record of the teams that Fishers has defeated, gives me the notion that they are still a bit of a pretender and are still not ready for the top level of the HCC. Consequently, Brownsburg boasts a victory over what is turning out to be a solid BD outfit and has played Cathedral closer than anyone. I'll say Brownsburg here. 31-14. Franklin Central @ Avon: Biggest win in years for the Flashes as they took down 5A powerhouse Zionsville, whereas Avon continues to reel. This contest may very well be a battle to avoid finishing in the basement of the conference (a thought that would have shocked Avon fans a month ago). One team is riding high and another is riding high in desperation. Bettors will tell you if it feels too good to be true it may be. I'll stick with Avon here simply because they are at home. Orioles win 27-23. Westfield @ Hamilton Southeastern: The game of the week in the conference and maybe even the state of Indiana. One team (Westfield) was expected to contend for the conference title all along, whereas the other (HSE) is a surprise contender and cemented itself as so by dispatching of Fishers in dominating fashion last week. This may be the biggest non-rivalry home contest for HSE in many years. Both teams seem to be getting better each week. I'll go with Westfield on the road but am not very confident in it as HSE has proved many folks wrong thus far. 'Rocks win 30-24. Zionsville @ Noblesville: Both teams got off to fast starts and are now riding two game losing streaks. Neither wants to make it three. The Eagles seemed to take the disappointment of the Westfield loss to Franklin Township last weekend and it bit them. Noblesville's feast or famine offense has come up empty the last two weeks. I think this one will be close but I expect Zionsville to come out on top. 27-17. What say you?

But the other team “not making plays” also helped. Norvell froze his own kicker and Toledo scored too quickly and decided to get flagged 6 times in the final 2 minutes.
-
Prepping for the “see what Iowa did yesterday” spin. ”We lost to a top 5 team.”
-
Yesterday was yet another prime example. If Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Ohio State are top ten teams, I’ve got some ocean front property on the west side of Indy to sell you. Cincinnati was tied at halftime with MURRAY STATE? Oh yeah, and Coastal Carolina? Gimme a break. Fully prepared for everyone to overreact about Iowa also.

Two plays away from 0-2…anyone see the ending to the FSU game last night?
