  1. I am going to suggest we play out the entire season and see where it all falls out......
  2. I meant my comments as an ultimate compliment to St. Ed's. What an excellent looking football team. I am sure they will improve as the season progresses and playing the Trojans will benefit them as well. Coach Moore plays for season's end. I am confident many of the young guys will develop. I used to think the gauntlet of Warren, Carmel and BD in the first 4 games of the season couldn't be more difficult and developmental for a team...until this season! Wow, what an opening schedule for the Trojans!
  3. Pretty tall order for CG to take on a loaded St. Edward's team....3 OL committed to Ohio State and Michigan respectively against new DL starters and a new secondary. Games like this will make the Trojans stronger in the long run. Would have been fun to watch this game with the Trojan team of 3 years ago.....
  4. This gets more interesting.....if true, feels a little like extortion. Bob, don't mean to use the wrong legal term. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38199104/tuohy-family-disputes-michael-oher-claims-alleges-shakedown-blind-side-subject The Tennessee family accused by retired NFL star Michael Oher of tricking him into a conservatorship and taking all the proceeds from a blockbuster film about his life responded to the allegations Tuesday by claiming that Oher threatened to go public with his story if they did not pay him $15 million. Attorney Martin Singer issued a statement on the Tuohys' behalf that called Oher's claims "outlandish" and said "the idea that the family ever sought to profit off Mr. Oher is not only offensive, it is transparently ridiculous." "In reality, the Tuohys opened their home to Mr. Oher, offered him structure, support and, most of all, unconditional love," Singer's statement said. "They have consistently treated him like a son and one of their three children. His response was to threaten them, including saying that he would plant a negative story about them in the press unless they paid him $15 million." Additionally, not sure about the accuracy of this source.... https://people.com/tuohy-family-has-not-received-millions-from-the-blind-side-source-7644002 A source close to the film tells PEOPLE the Tuohys have received approximately $700,000 total in rights, payments and profits, which was intended to be divided between the family members — Sean, Leigh Anne, their two biological children and Oher. "The Tuohys have not received millions of dollars from the movie,” says the source. "They have not even received $1 million from the movie.”Marty Singer, an attorney who is representing the Tuohy family, flatly rejected Oher’s claims. “When Michael Lewis, a friend of Sean’s since childhood, was approached about turning his book on Mr. Oher and the Tuohys into a movie about their family, his agents negotiated a deal where they received a small advance from the production company and a tiny percentage of net profits. They insisted that any money received be divided equally. And they have made good on that pledge,” said Singer in a statement shared with PEOPLE. Singer's statement continued: “The evidence – documented in profit participation checks and studio accounting statements – is clear: over the years, the Tuohys have given Mr. Oher an equal cut of every penny received from The Blind Side.” In his petition, Oher also claims he unknowingly authorized the couple to be his conservators in 2004 , “despite the fact that he was over 18 years of age and had no diagnosed physical or psychological disabilities.”
  5. interesting insight....also, didn't Spegal go to IU the season prior as a PWO? Maybe IU thought they had similar backs in terms of running style. Steele's injury did come at a tough time for him in the recruiting process. I am not sure why Purdue didn't bite. (injury concerns?) But hey, looks like it has worked out well in the long run for the War Horse.
  6. Excellent article and interview with UCLA's Chip Kelly about Carson Steele yesterday Chip Kelly on Carson Steele, Crocky-J, DL Depth, Ken Niumatalolo and More (TRANSCRIPT ADDED) (247sports.com)
  7. Always 2 sides to every story.....The Tuohy's sold their fast food business for a super large chunk of money....and they are trying to scam Oher? This is an interesting read........I want to hope they are legit people, but who knows anymore. https://nypost.com/2023/08/14/the-blind-side-family-responds-to-michael-ohers-lawsuit-against-them/ Oher was married Nov 2022 and the Tuohy's were not invited. Potential for Michael being influenced?
  8. Guessing you aren't much different than the majority of Michigan fans. You know that the old " 2 wrongs don't equal a right" saying. No one is justifying Tennessee (other than Vols fans perhaps) and no one is ever saying the NCAA is consistent. NCAA has a bad record when it comes to consistency and prioritization. (my opinion) But as stated on this forum before, coaches lying and/or perceived interfering with an investigation does not seem to end well for the coach. From SI's Pat Forde over the weekend..... https://www.si.com/.amp/college/2023/08/13/ncaa-issues-rare-statement-regarding-ongoing-jim-harbaugh-case
  9. Your comprehension on this issue seems a "tad jaded". The quote from the NCAA specifically trashed your hamburger theory. Young man? Hardly
  10. there is no apology coming....penalties merely delayed. Shame his memory is suffering. Hope he's ok. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/jim-harbaugh-now-expected-to-coach-entire-2023-season-as-ncaa-investigation-into-michigan-continues/ Needing only the approval of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, the deal "is now off," according to Yahoo Sports. The program's NCAA case will continue through the disciplinary system. According to Sports Illustrated, the Committee on Infractions rejected the negotiated resolution. "The Michigan infractions case is related to impermissible and off-campus recruiting during the COVID-19 dead period and impermissible coaching activities -- not a cheeseburger," the NCAA said in a statement, referencing Harbaugh's alleged hamburger purchase for a recruit. Harbaugh is accused of providing false or misleading information to the NCAA during an investigation into alleged recruiting violations made in 2021 during an extended recruiting dead period stemming from COVID-19. The NCAA alleges Harbaugh lied to investigators during an initial meeting about the violations. Dishonesty to investigators is a separate Level I violation in the NCAA's rulebook. It appeared as if the parties were headed towards a resolution in the matter earlier this year; however, while those negotiations were ongoing, Harbaugh refused to sign a document admitting that he was dishonest during that first meeting. The Wolverines coach has consistently maintained that he was not purposefully dishonest and claims he did not remember the events that led to the recruiting violations. Harbaugh's penalty will almost assuredly be harsher than what it would have been if the NCAA believed he cooperated from the onset as all four violations were of the Level II variety.
  11. I had the same exact question...hope he comes out with a chip on his shoulder!!
  12. Loaded...I knew about the 2 brothers I believe that are OSU commits...somehow I thought they were on the D line.
  13. 247 2 Star recruit, 4 star transfer. He did get offers from Ball State, Indiana State and Southern Illinois...all D1 programs. (see his 247 prospect data in the link below) But to your point, was not widely recruited and passed by both in-state IU and Purdue. (brilliant) https://247sports.com/player/carson-steele-46048570/ Now 247 refers to him as a stud.....
  14. Looks like St. Edwards has some beasts on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe they should rest him for game 1.....
  15. This may be a silly question, but is there a payout for the game involved? As the great Frank Beamer quoted while head coach at Murray State prior to Va Tech about an upcoming game against Alabama....."Alabama needs a win and we need a new weight room."
  16. highly probable at my age...for multiple reasons!!! 😄
  17. is there an echo in here?....could have swore I read this in a different thread........😉
  18. You are right...caused me to take a second look...UNC, Duke, GA Tech, Pitt, Virginia, and Miami. How about a Miami to Seattle flight for a mid week sporting event?? Conversley, the SEC has the following schools as members: Florida, Texas, Mizzou, and Texas A&M....in which the last 3 are all fairly recent adds to the conference. Says a little about priorities...my guess is AAU membership wasn't a primary consideration...it one at all.
  19. While we know this expansion is all about TV/dollars, it does look like the Big 10 is only adding schools that have the Association of American Universities (AAU membership). USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington all have this membership in this organization made up of 66 American Universities. According to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, the Big 10 will only add schools with this membership given the focus on academics. The only school in the Big 10 not a member is Nebraska, as they were expelled after joining the Big 10. https://www.si.com/college/northwestern/football/what-the-association-of-american-universities-has-to-do-with-big-ten-expansion Current members of the AAU https://www.aau.edu/who-we-are/our-members I guess we shall see if this is a priority in the future. Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal and North Carolina are members.....sorry Florida State.
  20. BTW, not disagreeing with you....hey, on the bright side, perhaps kids can sign up to some airline frequent flyer programs and rack up some miles.....
  21. So much for the life of the "student" athlete. Just doesn't seem the right thing to do to send the women's field hockey team on a road trip...nor cost saavy.
  22. I agree...kinda. If its about TV markets as well, not sure about Oregon and the Eugene area. Seattle absolutely...I get the connection to Nike. At the end of the day, I am not sure how this is really making the college game better. Hopefully, smaller non-revenue sports don't get shutdown and they identify regional opportunities. I don't believe for one second tennis, wrestling, soccer, volleyball, etc. teams are traveling across the country and playing games/matches in the middle of the week.
  23. Great explanation IO. What you are saying is demonstrated in this video of Simon Pagenaud and his terrible wreck at Mid Ohio a few weeks ago. I believe almost 7 rolls in this crash. Fantastic head protection and you don't really see him strike his head a ton inside the cockpit. Yet his concussion was so severe, weeks later the Indycar doctors have still not medically released him because of continued symptoms. Incredible video.......
  24. I remember being a kid, not asking my parents, and getting the 13 Columbia House 8-tracks for a penny. Not the smartest move when I realized I had to buy 8 more and quickly mail in the monthly notice to prevent the 8 track of the month being sent to me. Yep, I had to work that one off for my Dad.....not easy living on a small farm..... But one of those 13, 8-tracks was Steve Miller Band Fly Like and Eagle...dang well worth the trouble......
