  1. If Popeye and the Dline can get pressure on an inexperienced QB, it could make for an interesting game. But that is dependent upon keeping the Irish ground game in check. 2 very good teams!!
  2. I'm sorry...I am slow today. Not sure what you mean..... I always assumed when comparing records, one looks at the total body of work and not just a subset. What does astericks beside them mean? Thanks...
  3. ???? CG is 3-1 vs. Warren over the past 2 years. Did you discount post season?
  4. Then why stop at the bottom 8? There isn't much of a disparity in enrollment from the bottom 8 up to the 12th largest school in the state. If its really about enrollment disparity, then don't draw an arbitrary line at the bottom 8. Unless the real motive is to keep certain schools out of 6A, while ensuring others remain in 6A, just to increase trophy chances for certain schools. Doing that would dramatically affect both 5A and 6A. https://www.ihsaa.org/Schools/Enrollments-Classifications FB16 is spot on....this really isn't about enrollment disparity. Its more about certain key schools that have been successful in 6A...its about keeping Carmel in the south so the MIC and HCC eliminate each other. Only 4 of the top 11 schools have played for 6A state titles in recent years, along with another school coming in at #17. I understand not everyone wants to get in the ring with a bigger boy. So lets take the bottom 8 in 6A, move them down....and ensure they are one of the biggest boys. Let the other schools not much larger than the bottom 8 fend for themselves in the big boy ring. Just as long as my team has a better chance of sectional hardware....that's all that matters.
  5. Lecture others? I see lots of yellow laundry on the field!!! Back ‘em up!!
  6. Maybe it does in some eyes.....perhaps reclassifying 6A to only 24 teams helps ensure their teams don't make it up to 6A....... If there was truly a concern about enrollment differential causing unfair competition (and you've demonstrated repeatedly that is not the case with the top 8 schools), then there wouldn't be a proposal that would still expose a number schools to the enrollment gap in 6A. One would simply break off the top 8 and play them in a tournament if enrollment was truly the concern.
  7. Negative Ghostrider....they had to win all season to get there....not just about 2 or 3 wins. Kind of interesting....for people pushing for a supposed increase of a trophy chance for some teams by pushing them to a lower division, this proposal had no problem taking sectional titles away from the top class
  8. James just tweeted he's committed to Purdue.
  9. Is it possible that HC might have heard of this KKK connection? At the end of the day, as I said earlier, it is their perogative to change their nickname. But a lighthouse logo in a landlocked town? I think its kind of funny.
  10. LOL....I wonder if Holy Cross understands this affiliation you speak of..... https://www.telegram.com/news/20180203/holy-cross-board-votes-to-keep-crusaders-nickname-mascot
  11. I'm glad CG and Westfield haven't bought into the concept that they can't compete at the 6A level with the big boys and that enrollment differential.....I'm not sure Zionsville buys into that as well. Along with Westfield, they seem to hold their own in the HCC.
  12. I am not saying isn't a variable in the equation...we just differ in opinion as to the magnitude of the variable. I can point to schools across this country that are in lower income areas that have dominate football programs. Study Florida for example. I can also identify many higher income schools across this country that have lackluster football programs. We can point to several in our own state. Now to my question....of the bottom 8 sized schools in 6A that are being proposed to being moved down to 5A, how many of those schools and which ones would you consider lower income? I am just trying to determine if we calibrate on the definition. And if they (or most) are not considered lower income, then it must be a numbers game of enrollment....and as I pointed out, the number difference is not that significant from schools in the middle of the pack in 6A and outside of the top 8.
  13. And the bottom 8 schools in 6A? But to be clear, I don’t find your theory absolute. Lots of variables in the equation for success.
  14. I respect your opinion. We disagree that they 75% of those schools are title contenders in 5A. That's cool. Westfield played in the state title game last year in 6A. Yet they less than 100 students larger than the first of your 8 schools to be moved down, and <300 from the smallest 6A school. (based upon enrollment) CG won the title last year in 6A with <500 from the smallest 6A school. (based on enrollment) How do you explain this? There are 3 large 6A schools that tend to win or play for state titles on a consistent basis. Isn't this really about running from the outliers? BTW, thanks for the discussion....this is an interesting topic and I do appreciate your thoughts.
  15. I sense your frustration...be nice. Yes I read the entire thread...maybe you just haven't made the sale. Question...of these bottom 8 6A teams, how many currently would be in the running for a 5A state championship and 6A holds them back from being a contender. If we agree that this is a small list (very small), is this about inceasing the probability for a sectional title? Just curious.
  16. So mess with 6A because of outliers? How does dropping 8 schools out of 6A solve this?
  17. Are you sure?....I am counting 8 schools in 2013 when 6A was implemented. Carmel has certainly grown. They were #2 at that time. https://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Football Classifications 2013-15.pdf I am counting 11 schools now...but they don't inlcude some of the ones you mentioned. https://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Enrollments & Classifications/football schools 19-20.pdf If we analyze the top 11 schools, how many of those schools currently have dominate or top tier programs? How many of those schools win a sectional regularly?? Just because some schools increased in size, doesn't mean football dominance followed.
  18. I read that as well. Pretty late in the game to pull that move. IU's RB coach has quite the resume. Not sure what was said to James, but I would have liked to see him battle it out. It seems regardless of #1 or #2, he would have had the chance to get carries and prove himself out on the field. But as you said, this isn't his first time entering the portal. Hope he has success finding the right fit. I also have to wonder if he was close to graduating.....
  19. I guess its the university's perogative if they choose to change their nickname....first I have heard of a connection to the Crusades being so negative that nicknames must be scrapped, but so be it. But a logo with a lighthouse in a landlocked city? This long time Lutheran is stuggling a little with the university's ability to brand. Irishman...your post about Univ of Tulsa led me to look it up their nickname origin. Interesting.....I guess Golden Tornadoes were taken at the time by Georgia Tech. https://tulsaworld.com/origins-of-the-golden-hurricane-nickname/article_9bab7080-630a-573e-9643-c7a8717f1564.html
  20. Love the reaction on Twitter. One comment...."a landlocked city with a lighthouse as a mascot". Some preferred "The Bacons"...... I hope they didn't pay a marketing firm for this one....
  21. I love what Bowden did while as head coach at West Virginia for Marshall following the plane crash and rebuild of the Thundering Herd program. That part of the movie was spot on including WVU wearing of green crosses on their helmets during the season. Below is a link to a nice article and Red Dawson's comments about Bowden...... https://www.loganbanner.com/sports/marshall-sports-bobby-bowden-to-be-keynote-speaker-at-herdspys-award-event/article_79a2c402-ec7e-5b88-aa15-b137ab310c13.html
  22. I didn't know that. I talked to a old pal that live in the St. Paul area. He mentioned Gable lives in the Apple Valley, MN area which is tremendous for wrestling.
