  1. Are you sure?....I am counting 8 schools in 2013 when 6A was implemented. Carmel has certainly grown. They were #2 at that time. https://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Football Classifications 2013-15.pdf I am counting 11 schools now...but they don't inlcude some of the ones you mentioned. https://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Enrollments & Classifications/football schools 19-20.pdf If we analyze the top 11 schools, how many of those schools currently have dominate or top tier programs? How many of those schools win a sectional regularly?? Just because some schools increased in size, doesn't mean football dominance followed.
  2. I read that as well. Pretty late in the game to pull that move. IU's RB coach has quite the resume. Not sure what was said to James, but I would have liked to see him battle it out. It seems regardless of #1 or #2, he would have had the chance to get carries and prove himself out on the field. But as you said, this isn't his first time entering the portal. Hope he has success finding the right fit. I also have to wonder if he was close to graduating.....
  3. I guess its the university's perogative if they choose to change their nickname....first I have heard of a connection to the Crusades being so negative that nicknames must be scrapped, but so be it. But a logo with a lighthouse in a landlocked city? This long time Lutheran is stuggling a little with the university's ability to brand. Irishman...your post about Univ of Tulsa led me to look it up their nickname origin. Interesting.....I guess Golden Tornadoes were taken at the time by Georgia Tech. https://tulsaworld.com/origins-of-the-golden-hurricane-nickname/article_9bab7080-630a-573e-9643-c7a8717f1564.html
  4. Love the reaction on Twitter. One comment...."a landlocked city with a lighthouse as a mascot". Some preferred "The Bacons"...... I hope they didn't pay a marketing firm for this one....
  5. I love what Bowden did while as head coach at West Virginia for Marshall following the plane crash and rebuild of the Thundering Herd program. That part of the movie was spot on including WVU wearing of green crosses on their helmets during the season. Below is a link to a nice article and Red Dawson's comments about Bowden...... https://www.loganbanner.com/sports/marshall-sports-bobby-bowden-to-be-keynote-speaker-at-herdspys-award-event/article_79a2c402-ec7e-5b88-aa15-b137ab310c13.html
  6. I didn't know that. I talked to a old pal that live in the St. Paul area. He mentioned Gable lives in the Apple Valley, MN area which is tremendous for wrestling.
  7. Wow! What an ending!! Awesome flip for the big man. What an athlete!! Thanks much for sharing!!!
  8. What an ending!!! I see he is a Big 10 guy.....Minnesota Gopher.
  9. Was happy for this young lady. Remembered her at age 17 in the Rio Olympics 5 years ago. Great race breaking a world record last night with a total of 3 women very close as you indicated. They mentioned her father just had a heart transplant.
  10. FCS is D1....2 classifications. SDSU's conference, the Missouri Valley (also home to Indiana State & power North Dakota State) has held their own over the years against FBS schools. This is a pretty good source for listing FCS wins over FBS schools. https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/fcs-wins-vs-fbs-teams-all-time-victories-upsets
  11. The Purple Aces played there for a few years correct? If I remember correctly, UE is about 5 miles away...actually very close to Memorial HS. Shame they no longer have a football program. At that time, was UE Div 2 for football?
  12. Totally agree...she is incredible!! Love those who serve our country.....in Melissa' case, paying such a terrible price, yet moving on to make a true difference truly living her life. Inspiring Irish!! Would have give you a thanks on your post, but currently out of votes....must be too much of a +1 guy!!!
  13. Thank you for sharing that story....what an amazing young man.
  14. Some coverage in the IndyStar from Kyle N. https://www.indystar.com/restricted/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.indystar.com%2Fstory%2Fsports%2Fhigh-school%2F2021%2F08%2F02%2Fihsaa-mic-hcc-may-see-conference-realignment-near-future-carmel-center-grove%2F5448478001%2F
  15. Maybe a positive thing that Stanford didn't cancel the 11 sports they had planned on earlier........ https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/05/18/stanford-reverses-sports-cuts-lawsuits/
  16. Congrats to this young man from the LCHS class of 2023. Just picked up an offer from Michigan and already had some nice offers from Indiana, Purdue, Missouri, Rutgers, Iowa State, Cincy, etc. a 247 4 Star recruit.....more offers for this Bear are on the way. https://247sports.com/player/joshua-mickens-46113710/ https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Joshua-Mickens-145028/RecruitInterests/
  17. interesting thoughts. Don't disagree. Geographically it would make a ton of sense for Carmel with HSE, Fishers, Westfield and Zionsville.
  18. that is classic!! It was good he saw it....perhaps wondering if there was only 1 in his glass before he took the prior drinks...... I'm not sure if I have swallowed any buckshot....definitely crunched one here and there in my teeth enjoying some tasty waterfowl dishes. We all do follow the law, so it had to be steel shot and not lead!!!
  19. Yes it does...and anyone that has been on a crowded dove hunt probably have experienced a little bit of buckshot.
  20. Good call....I read where Mizzoui rejoined the Big 12 (interesting they call it that with 4 Big 12 schools and the rest from other conferences) back in April 2021. This upcoming 2021-22 season will be their first back in the Big 12. https://mutigers.com/news/2021/4/22/mizzou-wrestling-program-returns-to-big-12-conference.aspx Wonder if Oklahoma will be given the boot??
  21. As the landscape moves more and more toward 3-4 major power conferences, how does this ultimately impact the low or non-revenue generating sports? As distances continue to increase between schools, how does this fair toward sports such as wrestling, swimming, gymnastics, etc.? For example, the only school in the SEC that has wrestling is Missouri and that program competes in the MAC. I recently think about where Stanford was heading before the school changed their minds with the elimination of a number of collegiate sports. Is the future less collegiate sports and more club sports? Is that a good thing? Thoughts?? I am not stating that is the future, but it does have me thinking....
  22. What Coach Allen and his staff has done with the current level of recruits on the roster has been outstanding. Young men like McFadden, Fryfogle, Penix and Mullen did not come to Btown as 4 star recruits. I believe McFadden had 2 Power 5 D1 offers. (IU & BC) Player development at IU has been off the charts. Look how many preseason watch lists these players are on. Did anyone see Scott Frost's press conference at the recent Big 10 meeting? He was either poking Fleck or Allen (perhaps both) about having catchy slogans. Maybe he should develop something to start winning. Man is on the hot seat and pointing out others that have done far better?? Interesting approach.
