  1. @hhpatriot04 A little surprised 2017 Gibson Southern is in the 3A Top 25 (#16), but the 2017 3A state champs (Ev. Memorial) aren't, especially when Ev. Memorial beat Gibson Southern in the Sectional final.
  2. So no real surprises in SW Indiana.
  3. This might bring me out of coaching retirement. I loved flag football in IU intramurals in the late 80's. Still remember some of the multi-pitch plays we ran, but I'd have to change the play names because they were all pretty raunchy.
  4. Yes it was. We played some sophs who were just over-matched, but BTC was a well-oiled machine. I forgot how bad that field was. It wasn't the reason we lost, but man, what a goat pasture... LOL
  5. Agree 100%. Field condition was no factor in that outcome. BTC was by far the better team that year. I think the biggest advantage of playing at home is better tailgate and getting to pick the playlist for the pre-game music.
  6. I would have voted to make approval contingent on coach getting a haircut and shave....
  7. Another reason why Jasper should dominate the SIAC: virtually unlimited resources & facilities. Somebody is in desperate need of a haircut however.
  8. Branson Combs - EV. Memorial UFA to Jacksonville.
  9. They were a duo from the first practice of 7th grade Cub football. They were almost unstoppable and made the coach look exceptional... He hit so hard in 7th grade it was almost scary.
  10. No way my Tigers will be 9-0 this year. Too many holes to fill.
  11. As someone who actually pays property taxes in Vanderburgh County, I would much prefer to keep the two unique HS football stadiums we have (Reitz Bowl and Enlow Field) in good repair. Drilling into the resurfaced concrete it what has me scratching my head a little bit.
  12. No, this will be paid from general obligation bond funds, not private donations.
  13. I have no official source for this, but I have always heard that the Bowl was supposed to have seats on top of the concrete in the same style as old ND stadium. What I don't understand is if the coating (installed a few years ago) is failing, how is drilling a million anchor holes in it not going to make the problem worse? The most cost-efficient approach would be to not replace the lights because then nobody can see any other problem, much less the game on the field.
  14. I'd say #8-10 are probably pretty close, but the rest not so much..
  15. Zac is a good dude. High energy, loves the kids, and very passionate. I enjoyed having him around when he was with our program in 2012/13.
  16. I believe that in general, more and more teachers are going to decide the rewards of teaching are just not worth the growing sacrifices and move on to other careers, especially if the attacks on public education continue. You can only take so much for so long.
  17. Yep, especially from within the program...
  18. I wonder if having a good young coach decide to quit and move to a 1A program cased some potential candidates to shy away?
  19. Any news from the North side?
  20. I'd be interested in seeing that. In what social media posts were coaches recruiting?
  21. Agreed. I suspect it is nothing more than wanting to spend more time with his family. Coach Ward is a really good guy. Boonville has turf in large part to his efforts over the past several years, including some very clever social media posts. I don't think this has anything to do with the new rule as Boonville has never been a school that fell prey to transfers. I think he just wants the freedom to see his daughter play in college.
  22. I believe the new IHSAA year begins July 8 this year. That may be right after the moratorium week.
  23. IMO, it's very instructive as to how we've ended up at the place we now find ourselves.
  24. If you're interested, I highly recommend "A Fever in the Heartland" by Timothy Egan. One of the better books I've read in recent years.
